Following rave reviews, Sony announced this week that God of War had managed to sell 3.1 million copies in just three days, making it the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive ever. Santa Monica Studio chief Shannon Studstill thanks both his exceptional team and the millions of Kratos fans out there for this achievement.

When we first revealed God of War less than two years ago, we knew we had something truly special. Fans reacted with tremendous excitement to this bold reimagining of the franchise, and we were thrilled to explore the unique father-son dynamic between Kratos and Atreus. Fast-forward to present day with the game’s release, and we are humbled to see such positive reviews.

My first reaction to the early God of War hype was an eye roll, because let's face it, advertising budgets kick into high gear on major releases and it's hard to know how good a game really is vs how much of a sugarcoat or margin that soft-paid reviews are giving it.

But i gave it benefit of doubt, re-bought a PS4 for it. The game didn't grab me immediately (tutorial level), but after an hour or two, the game continued to unfold and time became a blur after that. It's probably the PS4's defining title.

Have you given Horizon a look yet? It’s on the same level as God of War I think, though a little less focused.

God of War was a great title though. They redefined how the series plays and did it fantastically and crafted a wonderful story and evolution of their character. The side characters that they have are more fully fleshed out than some main characters in other games.

bigger then Bloodborne?...bigger then Horizon Zero Dawn?...bigger then Uncharted 4?...impressive

I like single player games with a story so I play the exclusives on my PS4. Despite that I hope Microsoft can show something impressive at E3 this year. I actually liked Recore and Sunset Overdrive. I hope the success Sony is having will show them it is worth investing in good games.

Looks like Im Buying a PS4 :)

Edit: again

Game is just legit. Bottom line. Best SP gaming experience on any gaming platform atm.

Side note for anyone on the fence of buying a PS4 (again) for this game. God of War 3 is also available on PS4 for cheap if it’s one you’ve missed.

Buy ps4 again? Again? What does that mean? I thought the console market was super healthy and ps4 was on top? Sold to buy a switch or something?

Have a switch as well, at the time the PS 4 games just weren't grabbing my attention so I sold it. I've loved every other GoW game so with comments like some here I'll gladly pick a PS4 up again.

Mostly PC gamers buying it to play the exclusives. I bought one to play Bloodborne but then sold it after I'd had my fill. Re-bought a Pro for God of War, and will keep it this time to play Horizon and Uncharted 4, then Red Dead 2 and Death Stranding and some of the other interesting PS4 and console-exclusives on the way. I don't care which platform I play good games on.

Nobody's selling their PS4 to buy an Xbox, if that's the confusion. I used to be an Xbox fan - had 3 x 360's in the house - but since Microsoft still has continued to ignore their firstparty problem on One/X, no need for one when it's just multiplatform titles and 10+ year old backward compat titles.

No real concern per se, it just didn't sound like the super healthy console market you hear about.
