Ouch. But then its not exactly shining a light on anything previously unknown.

"We asked CEO Stéphane Graziano about their performance given the changing marketplace for apps, expecting some growth in line with the growth of the Windows 10 platform.

Unfortunately, we were disappointed, with Stéphane noting “there is absolutely no adoption for the Windows Store, even with the user growth, because nobody care.

Stéphane feels Windows is simply not an app platform anymore, noting “when you start your computer, you are going to the web and use File Explorer. Optionally if you are a worker or student you could use Office, but you would never go to Windows Store, why would you go there ?”

If you're using Windows 10 there are things in the Store that can be very useful. Netflix, Hulu, Xodo, Spotify, iTunes, etc. The failure of Windows phones has obviously hurt the Store thus way there are things line Project Centennial to repackage Win32 apps like Spotify and iTunes. A lot more work needs to be done but still there are apps there that can be of use to most folks.

Like above, there is a large amount of good apps in the store and Play Anywhere games. However, Microsoft really did not push the store as they ought to have done so, even with just downloading and installing Win32 Apps. Heck, you cannot even buy Office 365 from the store. The lack of interest is completely on Microsoft themselves, they screwed that up big time. Yes, Play Anywhere titles are a good move and will be going forward but, other things, not as much. (Hell, even Garmin is super lazy and will not update they app.)

x86 Windows had for decades a rich and diverse app ecosystem and even a powerful store in Steam long before the Microsoft Store. Add to that the failure of Windows phones and overall there's nothing immediately compelling about the Microsoft Store. Nonetheless, there is a good deal of software there that's useful. I simply see it as just another software store for Windows. There's how many for Windows now, especially when it comes to gaming.

People simply don't trust Microsoft enough to give their billing information to the Windows store. The natural result of that is that it never gets used.

Which you can document aside from your own anti-MS hysteria?

I can claim one app that I've bought through the store: the Dolby Atmos for Headphones app. I honestly don't have much of a use for anything else.

Oh! Gears of War 4, which is supposedly an alright game (left me bored), which I bought half because it was on sale and half because it is a decent implementation of DX12.

I have personally never even opened the Windows store. The early glimpse I saw from the built in apps (mail etc) in Win10 left such a bad impression that I saw no further need to even open more of them. It's a horrible failure and as it seems, millions of people agree with me and not with you.

Oh no! Millions don't agree with me!

Whatever will I do!

Lol.

I'm agreeing with the OP: MS failed to make it useful. That doesn't make it bad in and of itself, it's worked just fine for the few purchases I've made.

Does the Dolby Atmos for headphones app work well?

The MS Store doesn't have any 'killer apps' to draw people in. There's Forza, but that's like $60 for the base edition. I have a few free apps, but they are just UWP versions of web pages, so they are hardly indispensable.

I'll say I've downloaded way more free apps from the MS Store then I ever downloaded anything from the Mac App Store. Oy veh those are bad.. companies will intentionally mangle their standard apps just to get past Apple's Store rules, and they end up screwing stuff up.

I don't think this is necessarily true. I think it's more about reliability, availability, and layout.

For example, I have a few things I picked up in the windows store for my workstation laptop. But when my windows install ate itself and I had to reinstall, there was no option to recover those purchases from the store, only to purchase again. You have to login with a windows account on the windows website to recover them which is more complicated than it should be. I am exceptionally tech savy and even my first thought was "Did microsoft just shaft me?"

Also, I am not on a windows phone, so there just isn't too many things that are overly useful to me. I don't need java games or weather apps.

I've been using the Store from the beginning with the release of Windows 8 and I've never lost any purposes, at least know that I know of and I probably use the Store significantly more than most here.

Yeah, I've had no problem putting the Dolby Headphone app on other systems using the same MS account.

And it does work well, though I only really use it on my desktop- and there, I only use it because I haven't figured out how to make my X-Fi output processed audio through the optical output to my DAC/amp.

The Windows Store is a great idea that just isn’t being used. If Microsoft just made it a repository for software instead of focusing on “apps” it would be a lot more useful. A good example of this was from this last week when ITunes was released for it. No more bonjour install needed to update it. No more iCloud for desktop bundled in with it. It gets its updates through the store which is really nice.

Good point.

It's not going to be easy to get people to adopt it, MS just needs to keep up putting in software. Eventually people will grab an app from there, and all you need is for them to go there once or twice and they will start using it more.

About what?

My god you're trying too hard.

About the whole agenda you're pushing. Windows10 is a big failure due to the direction MS pushes it. Less control for the user, forced updates and why? To make sure users cannot circumvent ads and telemetry i.e. spying. MS is digging its own grave but hey - I have nothing against THAT!

So add paranoia to your hysteria?

I'm pushing no agenda here :ROFLMAO:

You and your bedbuddy heatlessun are promoting pro-Microsoft message here every day. Nothing can go wrong in the Microsoft world. I wouldn't be surprised if both of you got your salary from the company.

most people dont give a shit about the "spying", facebook proves that. they want something easy to use, familiar and that runs everything they need. for 90% of people that's windows.

now youre resorting to personal insults. maybe you should stay out of windows threads for a while before you get an unplanned vacay.

weird how someones not on the front page version of this thread spewing insults and bullshit....

I use Windows 10 and Store apps everyday, by the own admission on many, they don't use this stuff. You're confusing promotion with people simply explaining their daily use of stuff. If you have Netflix, yeah, the app has advantages, 4k support with the right hardware, 5.1 audio, a picture in picture mode and offline download support. If I'm paying Netflix $13 bucks a month it makes no sense not to use the app as it provides the best support for Netflix on the PC.

My 4k tv has its own android netflix app so why would I use windows for that?

PC != smartphone

My PC is not a smartphone. I dont need an "app store" to download apps; I'm not limited like I would be on a smartphone. Since Win8 I have kept my distance from Win8/10 due to shit UI/UX, privacy and removing useful features.

Chrome supports 4k netflix so I don't need Windows for that.
no it doesn't. only the app and edge do.

Microsoft Edge up to 4K*
*Streaming in 4K requires an HDCP 2.2 compliant connection to a 4K capable display, Intel's 7th generation Core CPU, and the latest Windows updates. Check with the manufacturer of your system to verify specifications.

Why exactly would I want offline viewing when I have 150/60 Mbit LTE?
so you can watch stuff when you dont have internet access, like on a plane, in a car or however anyone else decides to use the function.

According to Netflix, B00nie is talking out of his ass again. Par for the course, right?

If one doesn't like Windows 10 or the Store that's fine. But I have no idea why the same people who don't use this stuff feel compelled to constantly rage against it and then often not even get basic facts right. And what does having a Netflix app on a TV have to do with people who want to use Netflix on their PCs, like a laptop when travelling?

Honestly, I don't use the MS store because the only things I'd buy off it are Microsoft applications and they're a blatant rip off. I mean, they strip features out of Windows 10 Professional and then want to sell them back to me for ~$120.00 as an 'upgrade' to Windows for Workstations! You can jamb that.

As someone mentioned previously, I wouldn't have minded Forza, but not for that price/structure.

Strange, I have yet to pay full price for any of the games I bought in the Microsoft Store. Just like buying games for other services from Amazon and other places, you can do that with Play Anywhere Games on the MS Store as well. (Horizon 3 with Hotwheels expansion for $30.)

Love this app especially the quality option that allows me to always stream 4K or the highest quality on google chrome. RECOMMENDED FOR: People who want to customize Netflix as it is not as much customization as it has.
NOT RECOMMENDED FOR: People who are limited to
SD (Standard Definition) Quality as you miss the birate section as it can not bypass the birate section.

An airplane is the only place where I might not have internet access (although many provide one nowadays). I wouldn't want to watch netflix in a car due to a chance of getting motion sickness. I enjoy the free time of airplane travel by plugging on my Bose noise canceling earphones and sleeping.

In fact, I have switched to Edge as my primary browser, based upon what it is like now with the 1803 release. At least, so far, so good.
