YouTuber Spawn Wave is the first to reveal details on SNK’s upcoming mini console, the Neo Geo Mini. It will resemble a tiny arcade cabinet and feature classic titles such as Metal Slug and The King of Fighters.

SNK teased a new Mini Console to be announced at a later date simply showing us the outline of the system under a cloth. After receiving an email from a trusted source, it looks like we have our first look at the system and what we can expect game wise from the NEO GEO Mini console.

Yet another company trying to cash in on charging money to people for using an emulator, now I get it their property but there are a number of people that thing that rights to something should not be perpetual, google tells me the system first came out 28 years ago... yeah they've had more than enough time to profit from it, it's public domain now :p

The Neo Geo was that system I could never get my hands on due to cost. I am thankful of emulators but owning the actual system 2 controllers and multiple carts was always something I have wanted to do. I would totally own a Neo Geo Mini if it came with the original game contollers!

cool! never had one and only knew one guy with a system, got to play it a few times.
vid says expect ~$150 due to the screen though...

Seems like a product specifically for people like like the SNK fighting games. If you remove their fighters, SNK only has a handful of other franchises. They're mostly shoot 'em ups like Metal Slug or Double Dragon clones like Sengoku.

When I was young everyone wanted a Neo Geo because it was the only console that was capable of 1-to-1 arcade ports. These days, that obviously no longer matters.

Yeah, The NeoGeo aged poorly for me because the games all had zero transparency. You noticed this as fighting games added more effects, like shadows, or more complex weapon effects/projectiles/impacts.

...which the NeoGeo faked. The same way systems had been doing "transparency" (1-bit dithering or blinking) since the beginning of time. Looked pretty bad because the resolution was the same as the SNES.

Really started to look terrible once the arcades transitioned to 3D...but they still kept releasing new games for it.

It was just a faster Sega Genesis with twice the colors, for three times the price. Complete waste of time, unless you lived and breathed fighter games.

For such a fucking powerful and planned long-life system it was a glaring omission.

What would have been cool would be to hook up multiples of these and have them running the games in multiplayer sync on each screen.

its to small, "looks over at his original neo geo"

Yea, that's cool, but with so many 4:3 systems, why the 16:9 screen? I shed a little tear there. :( But not for your choice in screen but rather this is the only choice we have in the way of screens these days. I'm just glad one can still hook these systems up to a modern display and that the display still has a 4:3 option. I'll really be sad when it's nothing but 16:9 resolutions only and nothing on the back but a display port.

i dont play those systems on that screen, there just there for display, all those system are emulated on my arcade cab, but i have a 27" 4"3 tube tv still when i want to hook up my old systems

Doesn't MAME allow you the ability to "black bar" the screen to 4:3?

edit: n/m just realized you mean on the big screen tv not the arcade cabinet

The issue is that Nintendo did well so everyone else thinks they can sell 20 million vintage systems. most people don't care about those systems. How many people remember the Christmas where they got a Jaguar as did all their friends and spending thousands of hours playing it and want to relive those days? none?

that hunk of plastic with a 3.5" screen is an insult and piece of shit. Wont be gettin my bucks.

I've owned a neogeo 4 slot cab and refurbished it. In the condo we lived in at the time the only spot I had for it was my new born daughter's room! Haha. Prob 2 years later I sold it cheap. Think less then $700. 2 guys in there 20's drive from out of state to pick it up in there small SUV to put it in there realitives arcade.

I could never leave the neo geo.. :/ every year I'd see a pic of a cab or see a mvs car or kit and I'd be hooked again and buy up another 4 slot and make something for it to use the games. Even a snk neo geo gold system like I originally bought from babbages decades ago..

Blew thousands on buying mvs kits and bare games. Did that over and over again hahaha..

Those prices just keep going up and up.. would love to again but no way. :/

People can get the neogeo fighting games on MAME anyway, not sure why anyone would spend money for this..

I’d rather have it without the screen... For a screen that small, they should have made a handheld.

Or made the cabinet big enough for a countertop setup. This is the worst of all worlds.

Wouldn't it be a bit easier to just... remake the original tech? I mean, it should be rather cheap nowadays compared to the 90ies. Totally looked into getting a full cabinet but trying to ship one from Alaska wasn't cheap :p I'd get something like this, but the design is a bit... odd... for it's use?

Meh... I'll stick with my illegal emulation on a larger screen... assuming I had time to play games like this anymore :D
