Comcast Cord Cutters Shunned...AGAIN

Well, I already have 250Mb, and I don't pay for it. So, no real advantage there. Even worse is that if I get cable bundled with my internet, then I have to pay half the bill instead of having the whole bill paid. So, significant disadvantage of bundling cable TV. I know I am not alone in this matter, as many people have their employers paying for their internet already. So, Comcast can just suck it.

I've been bumped twice, first to 150Mb and then to 200Mb. No caps here either. I do have TV because my GF just HAS to watch shows you can't stream. But I turned in the Comcast supplied modem a long time ago and have my own. More than paid for itself, especially after they jacked the rental fee up. Actually, I have a Triple Play package, because by whatever strange accounting they use, it's cheaperto have 3 services even if I don;t even have one hooked up than it is to buy 2 services. Maybe if the plans made sense, there'd be less complaining. How can they offer 3 things for less than the price of 2? Only way you can justify that is if you are just plain overcharging for all of it.
No way in hell I'd switch to the only other option I have, crappy Verizon DSL, though. I was plenty happy with 150Mb, but since they upped me to 200 for no extra charge, I'm not complaining.

AT&T in Charleston, SC has been nothing short of fabulous. I have fiber going into my home and get U-Verse Gigabit. Speeds are constantly 950 down and 940 up and i have unlimited data. I have had it for almost 2 years now and have had 0 issues with it. Oh, and the best part? I pay $82 a month.

Sounds like you are part of the 1% of the country that actually has competition in your area and what do you now, speeds went up and prices went down...... The rest of us do not have that and are stuck with a single provider pulling bullshit like the OP because what are we going to do, cancel our service and change providers?

Comcast is pretty good here in South Florida, but this is just another scummy move.

I dropped their cable service when they tried the 300 GB per month cap. They quickly bumped that up to a TB.

We just got AT&T fiber in our area, and Comcast is giving me every reason to try it out.

Do it bro, I just got the Gigabit AT&T fiber with unlimited and it is fucking glorious. It's a Terabyte cap on the other plans but it is unlimited with the gigabit. I was updating a patch at 56 MegaBYTES a sec with apple tv streaming in the other room and playing overwatch with a 45 MS ping and my wife using the phone looking at videos all at the same time. 80 bucks a month.

One of the best decisions I ever made honestly.

These comcast dicks are trying to buy up sky tv in the uk, I pray they do not buy it as all I hear is horror stories from you lot regarding comcast.

Do not want anyone to fuck with my tv shit.

It's being implemented in phases. Eventually it will get to that area.

The caps aren't in place in areas that comcast considers to be highly competitive. Thats how its always been worded. They've been doing caps for probably 10 years now. More than enough time to phase it in everywhere.

I got 6mbps att dsl, because fuck cox. It's good enough for me, even if it only costs $10 less than cox's 40mbps plan (I think it's $20 less, actually), they can stuff it.

If I could get an unlimited data sim bundled with my att internet, I'd gladly pay $60/m, but since they don't offer any good deals unless you bundle home phone/tv too, they can also suck it. I'm paying $17/m for a 2GB freedompop plan instead, and using voip for calls.

Yep, its amazing how fast they upgrade service levels, drop costs, and remove caps in areas with competition. Its almost like they are a monopoly in most markets....

I've been really happy with Comcast's service, but my pricing seems to change every 3 months. That's in spite of whatever the people on the phone assure me. Dealing with their customer service is torture, too. I swear every single person that works there has information that conflicts with whatever the last person just said.

I don’t think you know what the definition of “really happy” means...

I guess I'm one of the 'lucky' ones, at least for now. Got about 1 year or so left on the bundled contract package I started with. Originally 250mbps but a couple of weeks ago got an email saying they bumped it to 400mbps for free. Haven't really seen the 400 yet but I've done many tests and seen 320-380 steadily. CL is the only real option for these kinds of speeds in my neck of the woods and the price is almost exponential by comparison. True local providers are lucky if they get 100/10 for similar prices or much cheaper but at that point its pretty useless for our needs.

They don't fall for the bluff of "cancelling" your service, that was years ago. These days, they just say "ok" and un-authorize all your devices. Your only bet is to genuinely switch providers every year or two and try to get in on new customer promotions. My comcast service is very reliable, but the price is ridiculous for how much I actually use it. I will not discontinue tv service though, I really enjoy live sports that would not be available otherwise.

Tried it, they said "see ya". Our two year contract ran out, called them about renewal options, I said "too expensive" and they said "good luck". No discounts were offered.

You have to cancel, they will call you back within a week usually.

If you want to *actually* get to Comcast's retention department, you have to tell them that you are cancelling your service. Not that you're *thinking* about cancelling, or that you want to reduce your bill. Any of those and you lose. You have to tell them that you are cancelling your service. Then, and only then, will they offer you the new-customer discounts.

I've done this trick in the past, but it no longer works.

I started getting 300mbs through triple play out of nowhere about a month ago. No complaints here however upload still fucking sucks at like 14mbs. My ratios are barely hanging on by a c word hair.

I have the exact same speed and also got the boost from 250 to 300 earlier this year. Ill take another boost though.

EDIT: Restarted my modem, 440/? on fast and 470/15 on speedtest.

Not news really. Fios did this a few months back, those with the triple play with 150mbps got upgraded to gigabit.

I used the wrong word - I've been really happy with Comcast's "product" or internet/cable service. NOT their customer service.

Cox Comm. in North Las Vegas held back GigaBlast for years because of net neutrality. When it got revoked in December, literally that week I got an email saying it was available. Not for the $99/mo Phoenix was getting previously, but $129/mo @12months by which it would go up an additional $20/mo. The only way to get it for $99/mo. was to cancel my cable service for 30 days, and then resign as a new customer on a 2 year promotion package.

These cable companies are making crossroad's contracts look like they're done in crayola by comparison I tell ya.

The SECOND that someone provides me with a comparable alternative, via cable, satellite, or cellular wireless, I am GONE from Comcast! I am so tired of their piss poor service, throttled downloads, and overpriced "bundles"! But at the moment, I have to suck it up and pay them, because in my area the only alternative is 6mbps DSL!

I just upgraded from 50/10 Comcast biz connection @ $150/month (static ips, equipment, etc) to 150/20 (benches at 170/26) for $145/month.

Why I didn't do that long ago I don't know.

My other option is like 16Mbit dsl for ...last I checked $70/month.

Their upload for almost every plan is still 10MB. There are some 30MB plans, but they tend to be $20'ish more per month at least.

Dealing with their customer service is torture, too. I swear every single person that works there has information that conflicts with whatever the last person just said. I can't even ask for "customer retention" anymore because everyone in the company claims to be in that department now.

Exactly why I left them. Better overall performance and reliability, but customer service is rediculously bad.

Well depends how many times you do it, they do make notes on your record every time you try something like this, wouldn't be surprised if someone who does this more than a couple times gets flagged as a "Just say 'sorry to have you leave, but bye'"

I mentioned something about this in another thread. IMHO its only a matter of time before the ISPs follow the lead of cell phone providers and move to free TV with your internet package. Its the only way cable programming can stay relevant. Just look at it historically. Cable TV was a service that gave you more choice, right? that is why people paid for it over just OTA. So the internet comes along and gives people even more choice, between video sites like youtube and subscriptions like Netflix. So cable has to go back to the OTA lifestyle. Phone companies went through this same trend. First they charged a by kb premium for data, then it slowly became less expensive and move to unlimited, eventually they just gave away the talk and text for free because it had no point to exist. This is just one step closer to that. Instead of thinking in a very negative way about this as many people here do, think about it in a positive way, the TV is free with a premium data plan. Just like talk and text are free with an unlimited data plan for wireless carriers.

My $30 a month plan 25 down went to 60 down in the last month. Not too bad.

I've done this trick in the past, but it no longer works.

its because they now will offer new customer discounts to almost anyone... problem is.... ppl do not believe that price is now their lowest (which can be confirmed online)

ppl still want 19.99 pricing :p heck i remember dial-up being 19.99

So all this secret speed bumps reserved for after NN was nixed by Ajit Pai... In any case it would seem to indicate their network is underused. Got it.

The area I live in (Annapolis, MD) has both Comcast and Verizon Fios. I have the 1GB Fiber Fios option for $79.99 a month with no data caps running 950 up/940 down. Did have Comcast when I moved to the area back in 2015 as Fios had not been lit-up on our block. That happened in January 2016. They finally offered Gig service for $80 a month last year.

hmmm, I'm still 300/12. . .I'll have to restart my modem at some point and see if there's anything new to report.

I can remember years back that I would get throttled when people came home from school and work between 4pm-10pm, and then after that it would go back to normal. I don't see those variations anymore though, so there's another plus to just waiting it out.

I just pack up my equipment into a bag and go down to the store a few blocks away and plop it on the counter. It's a lot harder for people to lie to your face, which I have found to be 100% true when dealing with Comcast. Their in store people are generally very pleasant to work with. It's their online and phone people who flat out lie to you.

That's definitely your mileage may vary -- all of the western Washington Xfinity locations I've been to, don't budge with anything, and don't even know what provisioned tiers they offer. You return your cable box to them, and you also have to practically beg for a receipt to not get nailed later.

fucking comcast was holding out all this time.

Charter's slowest package has been 100/10 overprovisioned for a long time.

Well, you knew it would come sooner or later.
The cable operators have to find a way to stop people from dropping cable services, so this is a good idea, until something else comes along.

I guess I'm "lucky". I have 150Mbps already in my internet option from Spectrum.......my entire monthly is just south of 300 dollars, but considering I like HBO and Showtime, if I paid 20 each separate for them
plus my landline phone, I'd be pretty close to that anyway. (yeah,yeah.....look I have to have very reliable voice communication and cellular is spotty at my house)

So, it all evens out for me pretty much......not like I can get service from anyone else, one cable provider....Spectrum.
What do you mean "come to this" ? All the services have been offering bundled discounts forever. This is not new. REPEAT, THIS IS NOT NEW.

Ironic you mention HBO and Showtime. Are you aware that you likely pay less if you subscribe to BOTH ? That's called a bundled discount. Again, NOT NEW.

Same with Cox cable. Used to be you could ask for a lower cost plan, then say that was not good enough, and that you would call them back to cancel after you had your satellite dish installed.
Now, they will usually call you back a week after you cancel, when it's too late since you already switched.

I've noticed that with Cox, they don't care anymore if you are going to cancel.
