On February 5th, biohacker and CEO of Ascendance Biomedical took to the stage at a biohacking conference in Austin Texas, and injected himself with a DIY herpes treatment. Sunday, April 29th he was found dead... shock. According to LiveScience, the CEO was found dead in a sensory deprivation tank at a Washington D.C Spa, the police have no evidence suggesting foul play.

Honestly what more can I add to this that the headline didn't give away. It was only a matter of time until Darwin called him home.

Traywick made news in October 2017, when he staged a live demonstration of a purported gene-therapy treatment for HIV, Live Science previously reported. The untested treatment was given to a volunteer named Tristan Roberts who has HIV; Roberts said that one month after the injection, his viral load had risen, not fallen.

I blame Marvel movies...

I am astounded at the level of dipshitness in my fellow human beings.

Herpes, what a low rent motherfucka.

To be fair, you can get all manner of virus through non-low-rent means. (though obviously the low rent means are predominant)

Still... People shouldn't inject themselves with silicone, home remedies, etc. it's likely to turn out... bad...

ill go against the grain and say im glad people are dumb/brave (isnt that line usually separated by living or dying, anyway?) enough to be doing this. i mean.. yea.. we could have guessed this shit would end poorly. but look back at how many scientific breakthroughs were almost entirely due to accident or happenstance. i think legit research will probably win out over random self treatment, but hey.. dude could have had some fun side effects that pushed science a direction we didnt know to go.

instead he's dead. oh well. any more volunteers?

Yeah, but it's only positive if dinkus actually documented the effects post injection. Infection counts, blood cultures, new symptoms, etc... but as far as I read he just croaked and didn't leave a case trail of information.

More like "another one bites the test"... You know.. for the testing that killed him.

On one side that's incredibly dumb and it sucks that someone died for being so negligent. Albeit fortunate that it was only one person. On the other side, just because someone's doing bio/biochem in a garage lab (or whatever the obnoxious terms biohacking means) doesn't mean it's bad work. There's HS kids doing some incredible stuff that takes flight.

If this dude was a total crank, it's still unfortunate he died but good riddance to the bad "science" and hopefully it makes fellow-minded folks reevaluate. Haven't dug into the dude past the article, but that's a load of hubris.

I hate to be the glass is half empty guy, but why can't more pushers of fake medicine get found dead?
Fake medicine?
There are numerous studies on gene therapy, and it's its success in a variety of applications.
Proper testing and design is required for success just like anything else

He died in a tank, but it didn't answer if he cured HIV with herpes.....

Why herpes? It seems like there could have been so many other choices. Well, I would like to read some more about it, sounds like an interesting journey.

Yes, Real medicine. I wasn't calling gene therapy fake medicine. It's the bullshit this deservedly dead asshole pushed that was fake medicine. Drug regulations have their drawbacks, but only fools would call thorough testing of potential drugs a drawback.

TFA only mentioned that the dead guy injected a willing human lab rat with the test substance. Possible the unviewed video had different info. Who knows at this point what the sensory deprivation gizmo did to him? Or his bio-clock may have simply expired. That's why its called 'average life expectancy'

I think his death maybe had less to do with his vaccine and more to do with the inoperable cancer he was diagnosed with back in 2011, but until the results are in it’s anybody’s call.

Until the tests come back in who knows, but he was diagnosed with in operable cancer back in 2011, so who knows at this point what finished him off.
