This was not the greatest week for Halo PC fans, as Microsoft was forced to protect its intellectual property by clamping down on ElDewrito, an online mod of Halo Online, a free-to-play version of Halo 3 that was never officially released. Phil Spencer managed to lighten the mood somewhat by hinting at a “classic” Halo game finally coming to PC, however.

The only official Halo releases on PC we've had since Halo 2 in 2004 (aside from the Spartan twin-stick shooters) have been Halo 5: Forge, which was more of a level editor than a proper game, and the RTS Halo Wars 2. Microsoft all but confirmed a couple of years ago that Halo 6 (or whatever it ends up being called) will be released for Windows 10 as well as Xbox, but we haven't heard anything about it since.

Not a fan but MS might as well give up on the Xbox. They bringing all their exclusives to PC anyway. There is absolutely zero reason to own a Xbox over a PS4 or even a switch.

Bout time.

I just downloaded Halo Online 0.6 a couple days ago.

I was quickly reminded how bad I was at it.

Then it got shut down I guess.

I never personally got big into playing Halo Online, I was always all about the coop really. And Firefight was actually pretty damn good on ODST but never did it on the others.

It was definitely a solid multiplayer and bingos truly cared about managing it back in the Halo 3 and Reach days (stat tracking for days). Amazingly Bungie still can’t figure out how to make Destiny PvP fun or worth a damn.

Personally can’t really see a reason I’d want to go back to Halo Online though, even on PC. Well.....maybe. Halo 3 was actually a pretty fantastic engine. Basically it was Nvidia Ansel before Ansel was a thing. Full 3D flight camera controls during full replays of...well all the gameplay. Campaign and multiplayer, that was great.

didn't play much online, but the original halo was really good. I would definitely buy the new one

The game isn't "shut down", you can still go online and play. Microsoft has asked that the "official" download links from the website be removed, which the El Dewrito team has complied with. Currently there's about 4500 players online, and if you're shifty, you can still find a download link to the game.

Mixed feelings. Micro$oft screwed over the PC gaming community back in 2001 with the acquisition of Bungie to release Halo as a flagship title for their Xbox. Still mad about that. But I would like to have a proper Halo title on the PC, if its done correctly and not just a lazy port. So not holding my breath.

Halo Reach big team battle was one of my all-time favorite online games.

Co-op on legendary was great too.

Was never a fan of 2 or 3 (or Master Chief in general, tbh), so I'm glad they nailed the Halo 1 physics for Reach vehicles.

The more Chief / Cortana personality they injected, the more shit it got, IMO. Which is what Halo 4 felt like to me, the little I played of it.

Not really shut down just prevented from improving it. Still up and playing and horrible at it also

lol..i want what ever you're smoking.
He’s not exactly wrong though. Outside of Backwards Compatibility (which MS is nailing) the majority of their exclusives are either also on PC now, or just plain not worth the investment comparatively to the other consoles and their games.
Though the Switch arguably and far far less so. It’s draw is portability really.

Coming to the PC? Good if it ever happens. Microsoft store exclusive? No thanks.

Yeah with the way Microsoft has been going with XPA, I wouldn't be surprised if the next Halo game was under that program as well. Aside from UWP, I got no problems with XPA. Being able to buy one copy of a game that works on both Xbox consoles and Win10 PC, with your saved data automatically following you as you jump between platforms, is pretty dang convenient. Gears of War 4 turned out well on PC, and even has local splitscreen, as well as cross-system co-op, multiplayer, and LAN support. Would be cool if Halo 6 did the same. How about we get a decent port of Master Chief Collection to PC while they're at it? Halo 2 Vista didn't turn out so well, let's avoid that kind of situation again. Maybe they can throw Halo 5 on PC and actually have fucking local co-op this time. Anyways when it comes to Micrososft, I take a believe-it-when-I-see-it approach.

Hopefully its done right and not a series port from Xbox back to the PC, and also its not a online focused game.

I loved Halo PC (Halo 1 for PC) and Halo CE. We used to have 16 player lan parties all the time. Weren't a lot of games other than Halo and Quake/UT that could have 16 people in a game so we played alot of them.

I still play some Rainbow six siege and overwatch but neither of them plays like Halo (and neither has vehicles) so I could definitely go for another Halo PC game. I liked that in Halo 1 you couldn't blow up vehicles (you could kill the passengers, blow them into the air, etc, but the vehicle wasn't destroyed), will be interesting to see what they do. Battlefield vehicles (and even UT vehicles) just didn't handle like Halo vehicles.
