Sources say that T-Mobile and Sprint may announce a merger as soon as tomorrow, in a deal valued at around $26 billion. If talks do not fall apart like last time, the plan would consolidate 127 million customers and establish a bigger contender in the 5G race.

The companies came close to a merger deal in November before SoftBank Chief Executive Masayoshi Son pulled out of the talks at the last minute over valuation disagreements. Deutsche Telekom CEO Tim Hoettges left the door open by saying, “You always meet twice in life.”

I cant fucking stand sprints shitty..... EVERYTHING.

T-mo on the otherhand, i fucking love everything about them.

This deal should be a fucking buyout! fuck sprint, buy em out and convert everything and everyone!

EDIT: With the update, FUCK YES A BUYOUT!!!!!

Wireless service prices are too much. This is just gonna make it worse.

We have an S9 and a Note 8, both from Samsung Insights. Even without lease pricing, a 10GB plan is still running me ~$150/mo.
I feel like it should be a 60/mo service

this shit again? hey lets get bigger and then not be able to handle the load.....

It's two functioning companies with full executive and employee staffs merging ya know. Sprint having far more experience in telecoms than TMo.

I've had Spring for close to a decade now....coverage is "meh" but it's fine wherever I go. The fact that it's comparatively cheap and the customer service is great (comparatively) is big factor. Verizon has by far the best coverage in my area but they're just such shits to work with. T-Mobile traditionally has been the worst carrier in my area but suppose a merger would address that for the most part. Eh, bring it on I guess.

As a Sprint customer I'm not sure how I feel about this. I've been with Sprint for almost 8 years now with no major complaints. As long as my account doesn't get fucked with I'll stay.

Also, Sprint has their own network and Tmo runs on the Verizon network. How is this not a Sprint/Verizon merger?

Uhhhh... What the hell are you talking about.. T-Mobile has their own network based on GSM. Where as sprint is based on CDMA which is the same as Verizon. Ultimately though they all use more LTE then anything anymore.

Sprint US company now owned by the Germans. The US keeps losing there companies one by one.

yay less choices!
I agree. I'm a Sprint customer, and I'm not for it.
Quite frankly, (and I say this as someone who is very pro-business) I think these mega mega mergers are something to be worried about.
Basically we've gotten to the point where Apple can't buy Google, but everything else is fair game?

You'll ask me where the threshold is: It's a little bit like defining pornography. I can't define pornography for you, but if you show me something I can tell you whether it's pornography or not.
Similarly, I can't tell you where the merger threshold is, but I do know that DuPont shouldn't be merging with Dow.

Tmobile wants full control. They will get more coverage, more customers, and more spectrum.

Long as they keep the uncarrier attitude its a win.
Once they're as big as Verizon and AT&T they won't. We're better off with Sprint staying separate from T-Mobile and trying to grow and compete.

As a former Nextel customer, I'm still not happy with what Sprint did. Nextel worked everywhere, never a problem. After the Sprint buyout? Nothing but issues.

Here in Jacksonville, T-Mobile works a LOT better Sprint, so this could be a good thing.

Then again, I'm wanting to ditch Sprint for Fi...

Not so much. Simply put right now neither T-Mobile or Sprint are real competitors for VZN & AT&T with their much more diverse product portfolios & subscriber base's

By that same argument though then we would be better off if verizon & att were both forced to split in half. Then we would have 6 wireless carriers..

Verizon 1 - 75.25 million subs
Verizon 2 - 75.25 million subs
AT&T 1 - 70.53 million subs
AT&T 2 - 70.53 million subs
T-Mobile - 72.6 million subs
Sprint - 53.6 million subs

Even combining Sprint & T-Mobile the combined company is still 15 million subs behind AT&T & 24 million subs behind Verizon.

And with the blurring lines between Wireless Carrier/Home ISP/TV Provider what this would actually be doing is setting up an additional company that could help break up what is in most area's 2 carriers for home broadband & 2-4 for TV cable TV service.

T-Mobile could grow at it's current record pace for like 15 years and not match Verizon's subscriber numbers.

That is the whole reason for this merger. ATT and Verizon have a HUGE and long-standing spectrum advantage. Lower frequency = less towers needed for coverage = lower costs. It will never be a level playing field unless TMobile can leverage the 2.5 GHz Sprint band for ultra high bandwidth and consolidate towers.

Sprint and T-Mobile have tried to go it alone and yet 90% of profit in the industry goes to ATT and Verizon. There isn't real competition right now between 4 carriers... Only between the top 2.

GSM carrier buying a CDMA carrier? Makes no sense.....
It's not 2008 anymore...the technology has converged in LTE and 5G. It's all about spectrum now.

I worked with Sprint on some big projects in the past. They have no money left to spend and it showed in their quality of their installs along with the fact that everything took FOREVER. Softbank all but cut them off which has caused their capital investments to dwindle. They've been in a death spiral for a while and will continue to dwindle thanks to poor service leading to a loss in subscribers. Their only hope is for someone with deep pockets to bail them out but not many are willing to sink billions into a company with a shoddy track record at best. The only real value left in the company is their spectrum holdings which is exactly what T-Mobile is getting in this merger so they can leverage it for a massive 5G rollout.

Better this than the other way around. Been with t mobile since voice stream..

2 phones, unlimited everything.. $100 month after tax.

So we know that Verizon and ATT are against unlimited data. Consider the following scenario:

I wonder how long ToMo/Sprint will be able to justify to their shareholders why they are the only major carrier still offering unlimited everything...particularly when they can charge $20/gig for data oike the other two. Once it's clear that they are leaving billions $$$ of Shareholder value on the table by not charging for data a la cart, that'll be the end of unlimited everything.

And those on Grandfathered unlimited plans? No problem...you can keep your Grandfathered plan. We're increasing the price by $250 per month, but you're welcome to keep it if you want it. Oh by the way, in 6months it goes up another $250. But you can keep it...

Don't think that it will happen? Just remember...the airlines are going to drop the fuel price surcharges and the charges for checked bags just as soon as the high fuel prices from the year 2008 subside. They swear...
