James Cameron Hopes for “Avengers” Fatigue

It actually is a great story, it just wasn't his and has been done dozens of times so far. All he did was change the setting for the story. While I enjoyed the movie I do agree with those that say it is a single hit, doesn't need any more..

Plot twist, Howard ends up with the glove.
After the shit he had to put up with in the 80's he deserves it...... Maybe Disney could work out another deal with Lionsgate and work Alf in there somewhere, that would be a buddy cop cross over movie worth seeing.

As a break from the standard superhero movies Disney and WB have been pumping out I would really like to see something set in the D&D universe that didn't want to make me curl up and cry (more than I want to already).

If Avatar is a non-original retelling of a story ... then Star Wars: A New Hope is a retelling of the hidden fortress.

i feel the same way, all there is anymore is crappy remakes and comic book movies, very hard to find a good movie with an original story.

There's no such thing as an original story. Every story in the world is built off of another story or concept. If you set out to make a story "original" you will fail and likely the story will be a complete mess. The goal with stories is to either present them in a different way or to tell them in a way that does not allow the audience to realize how many times they have seen or heard the same ideas.

Humans like the tale of an ordinary person being called to something greater, struggling, and overcoming. It is practically imprinted in our DNA.

I wish they would stop following the fucking comic books. I mean, the characters are well-known and fleshed-out now so just go and do something crazy with them. I fucking hate comic book movies for the most part. The only ones I liked were the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. The rest just follow the same fucking formula... the good guys win. Super powerful human fights villain who seems damn near impossible to kill and appears to finally have a full-proof plan, only to be bested by the good guy at the very end after the good guy gets his ass whooped for 90% of the movie.

Yeah this. And for me too, the Batmans are the only comic book movies I genuinely like. Probably because he doesn't have wizard-powers.

Have you seen "The Expanse"? If not, the first 2 seasons are streaming on Amazon, and you can buy the 3rd season on all major streaming platforms. HIGHLY recommended!

Dude, I owe you a beer or six. Finally got a chance and watched the first episode tonight. Totally had no idea they made a show of this - I read the books. Awesome show Thanks for the tip.

See, the problem with most of these comic book characters is that there's no logic behind who wins and who loses. Its all "wizard fights", and at the end of the movie you find out who was the strongest wizard. Its boring, because there's no reason for it to be that way that I can discern, other than they're the good guy and so they dig deep within themselves and overcome bad wizards who weren't quite as powerful as they thought all long, because the writer said so.

you sir have described most movies not comic movies.

Marvel appears to have a solid story arch going- and considering Logan, which was dark and ended with the protagonist's death, and Deadpool that took live-action comic book movies to a place they've never been, I think that Marvel is working hard to 'diversify' while maintaining high production values all around. Aside from the X-Men travesties (themselves aside from Logan), everything they've done in cinema has punched above average. I honestly hope that they keep up the good work; they could release a movie a month if they could keep the quality up.

They're doing a far sight better than DC's middling recent attempts, and DC has far more recognizable properties.

I dunno about DC being bad, I have enjoyed most of their movies. The problem is that MARVEL hit it out of the park with Iron Man and every one expect the same from DC.

Wonder Woman was great
Man of Steel was good
Batman vs Superman director's cut was good
Justice Leage was good as well, although it could have been a bit better

Try The Greatest Showman on a good home theater system. It’s a break from the norm and quite enjoyable.

George Lucas stole many ideas from a French comic called Valérian. Falcon, Leia bikini, Clone army, being frozen in carbonite. A lot of it was done almost 10 years before A New Hope was released.

That is exactly my point. For some reason, Star Wars gets a pass ... but when it comes to Avatar everyone is quick to call it Fern Gully or dances with wolves.

The paragraph at article end pretty much sums it up in my opinion.

.
That being said, he does note that sci-fi stories have split a bit into two realms, at least when it comes to depitcing science: “We can see the market drives us to a sort of science fiction now thats either completely escapist and doesn’t require a technical consultant — an example of that would be ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ It’s just fun,” he said. “We don’t care how those spaceships work or any of that stuff works. And then you have scientifically responsible science fiction like ‘The Martian’ or ‘Interstellar.'”
