Does it need to be PCI-E? I have an external Creative X-Fi 5.1 Pro with optical out. PM if you're interested.

I am looking for a simple PCIe sound card, prefer that it has optical out as well as with the regular 5.1 sockets.

Stuff I have to trade

Galaxy S3 phone
1 x 120 rad
2 x 120 rad
GTX 560
PCIE sleeved extenders, x6 and x8
Motherboard power sleeved extender
Gigabyte GA P35 DS3L motherboard
Intel Core Due 4620
Memory for the P35

pics available on request

I have a PCIE Soundblaster Z i'm not using. I'd be interested in the P35, processor, and memory assuming at least 4GB of DDR2 800 come with it.

Oops forgot to add pictures.

Hello all, thanks for the reply. I have posted a pic of my motherboard above (119594_dell-pci-slots.png) so you can see the availble slots.

joe7dust thank you for posting the pics.

@vivo & dook43 could you post pics of your sound cards?

I'm posting pics of memory available. They are all 2 Gig sticks.

No problem. This is a vintage 7.1 card, one of the very first if not the first 7.1 card ever made. Sounds great. I can throw in an optical cable if you need one.

If you need optical out, it doesn't really matter which card you use because you'll bypass the cards processing and process at the destination. Is it that your motherboard doesn't have the outputs? I would go with a cheap USB solution. I might still have a Xonar U3. I have to check, but I will let you know

Wow really? I didn't know that is how it works. I currently use HDMI from my GTX 1060 then optical out from the TV for audio to my sound system. So if I got the cheapest usb or pcie to optical card out there I would get the same or better quality?

If you're currently using audio from your GTX 1060 then there is absolutely zero reason to get a dedicated sound card. The audio from your GTX1060 is already digital. Digital is digital. If you got a dedicated sound card with optical or coaxial digital out, it would literally be the same sound quality - save for any schmaltzy add on effects like the X-Fi or Z's "crystallizer" which just artificially raises the treble and bass.
