Far Cry 5

Just finished up Wolfenstein 2 and am ready to download this.

Any recommendations on the cheapest place to buy it?

I missed the Razer store special, and CDKeys, GMG and Steam all look to be within about $5 of each other.

Well, that went better than I thought it would.

Did the D/L.

Started the game. and hit CONTINUR.

Everything was just as it was before the crash.

All of my keyboard and mouse settings were unchanged. That was important because I use the arrow keys for moving around and I've reassigned a lot of the keyboard keys to work better for me.

Life is good!

Has anyone else noticed that Uplay has sneakily made itself auto-start? There's no way to turn it off within Uplay, you have to use Task Manager.

EDIT

Yep.

you mean 'Launch Uplay when Windows starts'?...that wasn't always in the settings?...mine is unchecked...I also unckeck it for all my gaming clients

It was missing after I think Wednesday's update? And it had registered itself to start automatically. Today's hotfix restored the setting (so I could disable it).

I'm about to finish the game and I still never used the building shown in my other post.

Also, found a blank location in Henbane River...

Does anyone else have an issue with the club challenges not updating today? i have 1 minute left on Arcade Dawn live event when the day started played a lot and status is the same.

Anyone else think they put all their effort into John's area? I'm pretty close to being finished with both of the others and the missions I've completed haven't been all that compelling. There have been a few good ones, but most of John's area felt like where the plot and population were really focused. The capture missions are short and unimaginative, too. They aren't bad (by any stretch), but they definitely feel as though they were designed later and with less attention.

John and Faith were great. Jacob was really poor.
I actually think Faith was the best, since she breaks at the end. Wow, character development. My only complaint is that her final kidnap mission forces you to liberate the region.

I haven't completed Faith's section yet, but thus far it's been kind of dull. I'm just about to be swept away for her boss battle. It has better than Jacob's 4 identical kidnapping missions, though. While a little annoying, his boss fight wasn't too bad, too.

They way they push you through the main plot is interesting. Not sure if it's just because of different scoring or what, but it felt like I had to complete a ton of quests to get to John. With Jacob (and now Faith) it's like I've barely done anything.

Weapons and the increased hitpoint perk have made all the difference in the world in difficulty. Heavy machineguns, .50 sniper rounds, and the bow = destruction. The only times I've died in a long time have been related to wingsuit mishaps. I wish there was a quicker/better way to deploy that damned thing when jumping off a cliff.

try deploying the parachute first and then the wingsuit

Anyone want to join up for coop? Feel free to add me on uplay: eruditefacade

try deploying the parachute first and then the wingsuit

With a pad, that's the only way you can do it. It just seems to have a weird delay on when it allows you to actually pull the chute. Sometimes a bump in the road will try and activate it. Other times a full-on cliff face won't let you use it until you're 50 feet down. Once you activate the wingsuit it's tough to tell if it's working or if it hasn't deployed yet. If it did and you hit anything - you're dead. If it didn't, the parachute will allow you to land. It's weird. I kinda wish there was some kind of an immediate on-screen indicator on which one was working.

Re: Music. This group Hammock has definitely earned a new fan in me after what they did on this.

I like the Clutch Nixon theme music. It's like a trashy impression of a Ronnie James Dio song.

Can we talk about the ending? I just finished the game ...

So, at first I was super pissed. I resisted and rescued all my friends only to have everything blown up via nuclear war. Then the game ends with me being alone with Joe Seed in a bunker and the game is over.

At first I was pissed because I felt like everything up to this point was for nothing. After Polygon posted a short article on their website, they got contacted by a Ubisoft rep and they wanted to clear up the ending by saying the following:

“Wanted to clarify that in reality, the ending has been hiding in plain sight. Joseph Seed continually says that the end of the world is approaching. The radio news broadcasts hint of a larger problem unraveling outside of Hope County as the game unfolds, like increasing tensions and a world in chaos, stating that nuclear war seems imminent.”

This is unsatisfactory and I agreed with Polygon when they followed up with "While I don’t doubt this was the intent of the ending, in 30 hours of playing I never heard one of these broadcasts" with multiple comments also mentioning that these apparent broadcasts were either too few and far between and/or were easily missed. I would agree because not once did I get the sense that there are broadcasts talking about events outside the game world such as a nuke exploding and Russia. In either case, I missed ALL notions of outside suggestions that something is going on in the world that could mean World War 3.

In any case, there was one commentator on the Polygon article which actually makes more sense of the ending than anything i've been able to think of. Here is the comment and the best explanation I have heard for the ending of the game:

"The clear implication to me throughout the game was that there was something supernatural afoot. "The Bliss" seemed to be more than hallucinatory terrain. It struck me as a spiritual realm where an entity like Faith Seed wielded real power. She herself commented that the player character would make decisions about "what would happen to us," or some such.

I believe the final boss fight took place in the Bliss, and that somehow, for some reason, the player character’s choice to resist Joseph Seed was a disguised choice to bring about the apocalypse. It’s not clear to me whether or not the apocalypse was even in the real world, or whether it was in the Bliss.

I continued my game after the good ending, but I didn’t play very far into it. Hope County was still there, with green trees, animals abound, and no evidence of recent nuclear holocaust. I went to Dutch’s bunker. He was alive and well, and made a remark about not foreseeing how things worked out. Compared Montana itself to Eden, and said he didn’t anticipate the evil being in the garden.

I haven’t played the continued game far enough to determine whether or not it’s supposed to take place chronologically after the final battle with Joseph Seed. Dutch’s comment was general enough that he could have said it before the final boss fight too.

But the evidence I have so far says the continued game takes place after the final boss fight. If in fact the "continued" game takes place chronologically after the final boss fight, then that strongly supports my theory that the final boss fight took place in the Bliss, and that the nuclear war did not happen.

The apocalypse was a spiritual one, maybe personal to the player character, and not actually the end of the physical world.

Just a theory I have. So I could be totally wrong, or wrong on key details even if I’m partly right."

I think this is the best answer because the boss fight with Joe was trippy as all hell with your friends also mentioning it, and I don't think the nuclear war ever happened. I think it all happened in the bliss. If you continue the game then there are indications that basically everything that happened after Joseph spilled the bliss when you confront him never happened with apparently like the above commentator said that Dutch comments about not foreseeing how the ending happened and is alive and well.

So, I am okay with that. Although, it would have been cool to play a post-apocalyptic Far Cry game as a sequel if the nuclear war did actually happen.

I cleared Faith's area last night. It took way longer than Jacob's area and was more in line with John's.
I still think like 2/3 of the weapons are either broken on a pad or they just flat-out suck.

Just chuck shovels at shit lol.

So I won the game. I didn't mind the ending (I thought it was kinda neat, but not that shocking), but that final battle was the stupidest finale I've had to deal with in years. It's in my top 10 worst of all time. What a complete turd of a boss fight.

Not sure I feel compelled to do much more. I did all the Clutch Nixon events, got at least one weapon in each class that's mostly usable, got all the helpers, and filled out about 2/3 of the perks sheet.

While the largest of the Far Cry games, it feels way shorter than the other ones. Probably because it pushes you right through the plot on a schedule and there's not much reason to do anything else.

I have to agree. I can do stuff for fun but between the fact that much of the map is barren of hostiles and I kicked a lot of ass... there isn't much incentive post game.

I've had some fun playing in the Arcade on some of that although I'm not exactly sure what the point to doing that is past just doing it. ;)

I might have to try and make my own level.

I'm not sure if I'll touch the game again. The shooting mechanics were okay, but I hated 2/3 of the weapons. I liked the Clutch missions but found normal in-game driving to be slower than walking thanks to the terrain. The fishing wasn't anything to get excited about. I guess I'll keep my eye on the additional DLC expansions, but I dunno about the normal game. I guess some of it will depend on how good God of War is.

The DLC seems intriguing. They seem to be going goofy with it like they did with Blood Dragon. I may get the season pass once everything releases and I watch some gameplay.

Played it two hours and got a refund from Steam. I loved the original Far Cry and Far Cry 3, but this wasn't my cup of tea. The whole game just didn't feel right to me, from the vehicle controls to the weapons. Never got comfortable with it and didn't enjoy it.

II went as far as to getting close to liberating the first zone... and stopped. its fine, but frankly I have other more fun games to play. this one does not feel compelling in any way. Primal had the same issues. Maybe one day I will finish it.

Ok, biggest complaint for me in this game is how many fucking times my idiot character keeps getting randomly captured. A few times I've fired up the game with the only intention of fucking around or fishing for 30 minutes, when all the sudden I get captured, then get stuck "culling the weak" or whatever. I'm sitting at a unskippable cutscene I could care less about because my main focus was to catch bass, but nooooo, as soon as I find my fishing spot I am captured already.

Is there a way to increase the draw distance? I'm on 1440p with ultra settings and the pop in is pretty noticeable.

Seems there are a lot of quality settings hidden from the player. It's still Dunia 2 underneath all of it so the mods should be coming.

That's what I didn't particularly like about the reviews saying how "well" the game ran. Of course the game runs well when "Ultra" is basically "Medium."

This is because the game forces progression on you. You are forced to complete it when the dev want you too. You cant just go aroind like 3 and 4 and do whatever. You are Always progressing in 5.

It is the worst part about the game to me. I dont need to be hand held through the game at their pace.

Temporary workaround is fast travel to another region where you're not already wanted.

At at least a few points the game will just capture you no matter what. I think you can only evade capture for so long before you get instantly captured when you spawn in a zone where you're being hunted.

Just finished the game.

The ending? Perfect. What an amazing game. Also, great choice of music in the end credits, I was singing along! :D

I was able to get all the achievements I could solo (in game for perk points), got all perks and bought all the stuff I wanted. Cleared the map of all missions and caches. Overall I think I'm at 35 hours with about 10 rounds of MP mixed in. Now to wait for the DLC's. So far, happy with my investment. Will replay in the future as I enjoyed the atmosphere. Wish it was a bit harder, once you got the 50 sniper rifle/bow for long range and M249 for close assault, game got too easy.

I did a second playthrough with weapon restrictions, only allowed myself to use the bows, pistols and flamethrower. Flamethrower is a tough one for me, kill myself most of the time, so in the end I pretty much just used the bow. With explosive arrows you can still pretty much dominate.

For being pretty much the same game it is still much better than FC4 imo. Performance is great, FC4 always felt clunky.

I was captured while gliding in my wingsuit. I encountered a lot of immersion killing events.
