Assassin’s Creed Origins

Finished the main story in 39 hours at level 35 (easy mode). I’m trying to do some side quests now to hit level 40 then move to the hidden ones. I hope it has some new stuff to do because things are getting a little repetitive and boring. (yes this is not my type of games)
Nice game, first AC game I ever play and first action RPG I played since Skyrim, I think I’ll give The Witcher another try later.

Like many RPGs, you can go hunting down collectibles & landmarks to get more XP. My method is to reveal and/or conquer all locations in games like this. It goes a long way if you're into exploration.

So... was anyone else a little dissappointed we could't mount spikes and blades on the chariots? I mean.. rolling through a group of bandits with a chariot should be kind of insta kill for them. Not that it pretty much doesn't feel that way swinging a large weapon from a mount.

The Animus Control Panel is out - theres tons of good stuff here like infinite arrows and different character options, I changed Bayek to Layla and it was flawless.

Does it reflect new and updated gear or are you stuck with the gear designs of that character as it was presented in the game?

I'll have to jump in on this at some time this weekend (when I'm not playing Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 - almost like playing ACO!).

So the other characters aren't able to equip different unlocked outfits like with Bayek however you can remove the hood if the character has a hood. Also, I noticed Bayeks grunts when climbing so the voice might not be changed.

^^ Strictly an exterior appearance swap. Pretty cool but you definitely have to employ a considerable suspension of disbelief. ;)

Got bored really fast of being super powerful, especially after I beat almost all of the game anyways. Maybe I'll just have to do NG+ at some point instead.

What I like about this animus control panel is we can really dial this in any way we want... including making things a lot more difficult.

This is a really cool "sign off" bonus from the devs for this title.

North of 3 gigs patch... people are talking like this is probably the last one.

I'm actually a little surprised this game has gotten as many updates as it has. It has been the least problematic Ubi PC release I can recall, and really one of the most stable games I can think of period for a game of it's size. Typically big open world games are full of issues, and I honestly cannot recall a single bug in this game, and i've been playing since day 1.

I have to commend Ubi for long term support of their titles, with games like The Division, Ghost Recon Wildlands, RainbowSix Siege and others getting multi-year content expansions. FarCry 5 seems to be on the path for this as well, with a considerable season pass of 3 expansions and ongoing in-game free content unlocks.

It seems they've done some great things for Origins - which is on my backlog, but I really hope they don't end things here. I'd love to see future expansion-style content DLC and would easily pay for another year's season pass if it included lengthy additional content. The one issue of concern I have is that Ubi's support has been great, but in many cases it is limited to multiplayer or "new tweaks" kind of content, when I'd really like to see games like Origins get new "expansion style" story content instead. From all reports, Origins' story expansions in the Season Pass are well regarded with new areas and content, so more of that would be great.

Ubi's consistency in advancing beyond simple "its a Ubisoft open world game" dynamic in recent years give me hope for future Assassin's Creed titles, as well as interest in those like Skull and Bones who may end up being what Sea of Thieves SHOULD Have been at launch.

Completed this game in about 60 hours (base game not the DLC). Great game overall - the witcher's influence on this title was pretty obvious, to the point where at times it felt like Witcher 3-lite instead of an AC game. On a technical level the game was a masterpiece, but also spread a bit too thin with the Ubisoft open world formula.

They did a great job with the growth and relationship of the two characters you play as you trudge through the story, it was above and beyond what you typically see in an AC game. While most of the side characters felt generic, some were well done and quite memorable.

Will probably return to the DLC at a later date, cause I'm burned out with AC for the moment. The game is worth a play through just for the journey through the excellent rendition of ancient Egypt.

The game is on sale via Uplay right now. I bought the normal vanilla version yesterday. I figure if I like it the DLC is also on sale.

I have to admit that this is probably the reboot the series has needed for a while. Combat and the constant holding of buttons to run around were always needlessly ported from sequel to sequel. This one has some Dark Souls combat elements, but nothing overkill. Movement is more streamlined, too.

I'm not far enough to know if it's a good game or not, but I at least like the changes they made so far. Performance isn't bad, too. The torch bogs things down a little, but it's otherwise running smoothly at 1080p/60fps all the time.

After a week of playing it, I'd say this game is definitely what the series needed. It's familiar enough, but the new combat system makes a massive difference. The climbing and parkour mechanics have been dialed back a little, but after like 15 sequels I'm okay with that. The scope is huge.
If you've avoided the last few games, this one is worth coming back for. Especially if it's on sale. I got it for $20 and I doubt I'll even scratch the surface of how large it is.

I have 470 Uplay points...would have been nice if I could use the points to buy the game...I see I can buy one 20% off coupon for 100 Uplay points but they don't offer any higher discounts nor can you stack the coupons

Sometimes those points can be used to pick up a discount when there is nothing else. Those 20% coupons on say, Season Passes. Ubi season passes dont' always go on sale and if so not above 20% , even on the "usual" sites you can't regularly find it cheaper than that in certain cases.

I agree I'd like to see them used for more benefit, but its kind of neat that they can be used for certain DLC. For instance there's a Secret of the Pyramids or something like that AC:Origins special mission. It used to be granted either certain editions or pre-order bonuses, but if you didn't get those you can unlock it via UPlay points. Likewise, there are a bunch of weapons and outfits that are unlockable either by achievements and/or points. Now I know this is not the same content otherwise available only for real money stuff (ie Helix Credit cosmetics ) and I think it SHOULD be in the future etc... but at least its something. For all the flak UPlay has taken one thing they've done right is that they're more or less the only company that has made all of the various "Achievement Points" that nearly every platform has in some way, mean something. Back when I first heard about "gamerscore" for Xbox Live I thought the points could be turned in for something real like games or content and at least UPlay did something down that road. Now to push them to travel much further along it...

Oh I recently started AC: Origins and I'm having a blast. Beautiful scenery and wonderful depthj, plus I'm so glad to have some measure of "real world, game lore" back. I love the detail and history in AC titles and Origins really nails it yet again; the increased customization and "RPG stats" plus "DarkSouls Combat" is a nice addition too. I do have to admit however that many of the (non joke) clothes/costumes do NOT show Bayek's Medjay Badge. Its present on his basic/starter clothes and a few other outfits which is a nice touch (even when it gets upgraded to the Gold Medjay Badge it shows that version! I appreciate that kind of detail!) but most outfits do not show it! Some costumes also lack visibility for the various armor pieces, but I do like how they do upgrade visually (ie quiver, assassination blade, melee bracer, ranged bracer, breastplate/gorget, item pouches) .

I'm playing bit by bit clearing each zone as I go.

I have to say that this game has been such a pleasant surprise. It's still very much Assassin's Creed, but the gameplay tweaks make things fresh again. It's even quite challenging depending on how brave you are with fighting enemies above your level.
It might lack the overall depth of Black Flag (which was only like 1/2 AC and 1/2 a new game), but it's up there with the best games in the series.

Still enjoying Origins immensely! However, is there anyone who seems to get BSODs near exclusively with AC:Origins and/or any other recent Ubi titles? I seem to be getting WHEA_Uncorrectable_Error and Clock_Watchdog_Timeouts while playing at seemingly random intervals. There is a hard-lock for a moment and then a BSOD comes up. It doesn't only seem to happen during the most graphically intense scenes and there isn't any audible fan spin-up prior to it in response to heat. . I've monitored my core temps during play and the absolute hottest (even with my cooling issues currently thanks to my-to-be-replaced cooler) are in the 70s so I wouldn't think that enough to cause instability etc. I've heard users talking about potential issues with everything from Nvidia drivers (ie the 397/398 branches having some issue and that rolling back to 391 is necessary to fix an issue that affects many games?) to Denuvo messing with things. None of my other games, 2D or 3D seem to have this issue; I'm currently looking into trying a few more graphically intense titles just to see.

Anyone run into something similar?

The game has been mostly bulletproof for me. I got a weird freeze once when I did a leap of faith (from a fast travel spot) before the scene fully loaded. That's the only issue thus far and I've got something like 35 hours of play so far. I'm playing with everything cranked at 4K, but set to 50% rendering resolution...so basically 1080p maxed. It doesn't stay at 60fps permanently, but it's there 80-90% of the time.

The game does seem to really put your PC to the test, though. Both CPU and GPU usage numbers are super high per Afterburner. There's no mistaking my fans kicking up, too.

After a couple weeks of pretty steady play I won the game yesterday. I don't think it's quite as good as Black Flag (or potentially Brotherhood), but it's no worse than 2nd or 3rd on my list of best AC games.
I managed to hit level 40 and upgrade all of my base equipment (and at least 1 weapon of each class) all the way. My overall playtime was around 50'ish hours. While I only completed like 1/5 of the side quests in the game, there isn't much motivation to since your level caps at 40 without the DLC. I got all the perks I wanted, so it's not like those matter all that much.

I actually used the same weapon for like 95% of the game. It was a sword that puts enemies to sleep roughly every 3rd or 4th hit. I tried a bunch of others, but nothing else was even close. I just kept boosting it.

Anyone have an opinion on the DLC? Is it just more of the same or does it add anything particularly new and compelling? I killed all of the Phylakes and the Elephant Rider so I intentionally did all of the better optional missions.

I'm still playing myself, and actually going through fully "clearing" each area. I've not yet finished the main campaign as of yet, but I definitely "over-level" it though there are a LOT of new sidequests that pop up all over the place as you level, complete previous side and main storyline quests, and more. Note that there is an option to allow under-leveled enemies level up to your level, so you'll never have just trivial combat if you don't want that - its in the game options somewhere, if you should want to go back and and play more. Did you do all of the side quests and other activities (ie all the tombs, especially the ones with "special" objectives that reveal some pretty big lore dumps? All the constellations and then go to the "proper" place afterward? Solve the special "XV" promotional puzzle? )

You found a weapon that put people to sleep? Wow, don't think I've seen one of those. I've gotten those that are on fire, those that bleed or poison etc... but not sleep.

Regarding the DLC.... I'm usually of the opinion that the full "Gold/Ultimate" edition is worthwhile if it contains decent expansions, and though I've not played them as of yet it seems AC:O does. One thing of note is that if you get the DLC you can level up even higher I think from 45-55 with both expansion; I know I'm over 40 and not even finished with the base story or clearing all of the base zones yet! The two expansions offer entirely new zones and advance the storyline as ewll, so if you enjoyed the original story I'd think it worthwhile to do so. I can't give a lot of info but based on what I'v read there are their own collectibles, weapons, special abilities and other content added as well as a few new play dynamics too. I do know that they enhance the amount and appearance of upgrades for your armor/equipment, as I've run into a point when upgrading (armor, melee bracer, ranged glove, hidden blade etc...) that it asks for a completely new resource, not found in the base game.

I do think that you';ll probably get the most out of the game if you enjoy all the side mission and whatnot, but even if you stick to the main missions for them, it looks like both expansions have lots of new, enjoyable stuff and are worthwhile.

The trial of god quest can you still fight Anubis or was this a timed event for just one time?

Every week (I think) there are 2 new gods to fight . They show up as Event quests etc... and don't worry if you miss one, they'll be back. For instance, Sobek and Sekhmet are currently up. Anubis himself will be back sometime soon. First kill of each god, each quest period, unlocks some pretty awesome equipment. There are multiple versions/color variations of each item type as well, and they're scaled to the level of the boss battle / your level when you win. Most of the gods are only ready to be fought at around level 38+ and scale up from there. Each boss has their own attack strategy and patterns to figure out but it REALLY helps to have a bow (usually a Light or Hunter type bow) with "Health on Hit" special property. If, over several cycles you fight all the gods and complete a full set of items (at least one item from each category they offer, you will unlock an Anubis armor/costume.

After you defeat each boss that "cycle" you can fight them over again - don't be alarmed by the mission to find/kill them popping up again - if you wish. You won't get further equipment for that cycle, but the kills will count towards the Community Challenge. Besides the solo challenge there is a semi-unlisted (ie its only on the UPlay overlay setup) challenge each week for the whole player base to say...kill the gods 25,000 times or something. Your own contributions will be listed next to the challenge and if you at least have 1 kill,, then if the community reaches their goal entirely - you will get a special additional item - usually golden! Note that you collect these on the UPlay Overlay's community challenge page and the past week's goal will have a "collect" button on it, if the global goal was reached, allowing you to claim the reward. For instance, last cycle we met the requirement, I contributed 3 kills (one of each god the first time, plus I stumbled back into the "spawning distance" to start the battle over), and when I collected the reward from the overlay UI, it was a variation on the legendary sword I previously unlocked from the kill, but this one was named differently, had slightly different properties, and was golden in color!

Not sure if you saw my post on Odyssey in relation to your query, but I've now completed (to near 100%. Maybe I'm missing a few of the Elite chariot races) the main game and have started on the first expansion style DLC! It was really an excellent main campaign and those who take the time to delve into the lore and unlock all the special side quests, there are some really neat things going on in the larger scale Assassin's Creed storytelling. First DLC seems to advance the story and gameplay as well. As I said before, its worth it to have the Gold edition from the start (or at very least both expansion DLCs on your account) for a number of reasons including leveling and expanded talent trees. Have any questions just let me know.

How many hours does it take to get to level 40?

For me it was around 40 I believe. I basically did a lot of side quests early, but stopped being as diligent once I hit level 25 or so. I did do all of the (non-elite) chariot races and gladiator challenges, though. I found those to be a fun distraction. Ditto with all of the towers and venturing into every area of the map at least once. I did a few of the end-game boss fights, but it was after I had already hit level 40 and had better items than they were dropping. That sword that puts enemies to sleep is a borderline cheat code if you can find it. I think I got it from a random Reda quest and I used it for 39 of my 40 hours played. With as many side quests as the game has available, I kinda wish they made the level cap for the normal game at 50. There isn't a whole lot of motivation to do 1/2 of the quests in the game. It's not like you aren't overpowered by the end anyway. The Phylakes and Elephant Rider are the only foes in the game that can really challenge you by the time you hit the mid 30's.

Its also worth mentioning that, if you're worried about things being too easy there's an option in the game options itself to turn on level-scaling. This only applies to underleveled enemies, nothing is scaled down close to you etc. If you feel that things are still too easy even if you're 40s+ in the main game, just snap on the setting and everyone else will be up to your level or so.

As far as the time it took I don't have a good estimation actually. I am somewhat completionist in this kind of game so I tend to do all major side quests, story stuff etc.. per zone before moving on. I typically stayed within the zone as it pertained to the main quests, overleveling everything quite a bit but there was still a good challenge across the board.

Note that there is also the potential to immediately, automatically level up to 45 if you have the Gold/ Expansions. I didn't take this option as I was already beyond by the time I finished the entire base area, but someone who only stuck to the main storyline and a few choice sidequests (I highly suggest killing the Phylakes, going to all the Stone Circles, Meditation points, raiding all Tombs for both Tablets and "Special" objectives..especially the latter. Oh and big hint - in every tomb, there will be pieces of Silica laying around. Pick all of them up! They will be needed in both small, and at the conclusion of a particular quest line, a BIG way. Use your "detect treasures/interactable stuff" ability constantly as you go through tombs and pick up stuff off the beaten paths - Silica looks like glowing orangeish rocks ) may find this useful.

Oh by the way, if you pick up Gold edition (not sure about any others) you will be given a certain amount of Helix Credits (ie in-game store money). Its enough to make several very important purchases - notably unlocking the locations of Tombs / Mechanisms, Meditation (aka Hermit) points, and Stone Circles, on the Map. These normally won't show up on the map and unlike other features in the game are not typically the kind of places you just stumble upon so your eagle won't be of as much help here. However, there are three items on the in-game store's "Time Savers" sections that will place icons for all of these on the Map for you. I am a little annoyed these can't be unlocked via purchasing in-game items (unless I missed them?) this time, but its a good use of these "free" Helix credits I'd think.

I picked up the base game yesterday plan on playing it finally I mean Kick Ass Cop liked it so it can't be that bad =)

Hope you enjoy it! If you wish to grab the Season Pass, it is on sale for 55% off on GMG (making it around $17 I think) until Aug 2nd. https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/assassins-creed-origins-season-pass-pc/ . Comparing all of what's included (especially given the standard price of DLC Expansion 1 = $10 and DLC Expansion 2 = $20 , not counting the a 2 equipment packs, deluxe pack content, and 500 Helix credits allowing you to get those 3 map unlocks etc..), its certainly a nice bit of savings.

It's well worth it if you like the base game at all. I couldn't believe how much content they offered.

Level 20 and all they give me is a Pyramid to climb best part of the game so far. I don't think I'll hit 40-43 on my vacation maybe down the road.
