Skyrim VR for PC April 3 (With oculus support!)

Broke down and just picked it up via Green Man Gaming for $47.99. They are running a 20% off promo code right now, "April20", that knocked $12 off of the price over buying it directly on Steam for $59.99. They give you the Steam code, and while it's not refundable going this route, I'm ok with it. Since Skyrim VR supports user mods, I figure that its user community will most likely address enhancing and fixing the quirks on the VR front eventually. The initial reviews also seem good... especially with the right mods applied. Melee appears to pretty much suck, but that doesn't bother me as I prefer using the bow and casting.

I stand by my short review lol, I'm about 5 hours in and so far the biggest issue I have found was at the start when npcs would slide a bit when they would begin to walk during scripted events. Beyond that I have had zero issues with the game, that in mind it is skyrim just in VR. It's awesome in VR but if your sick of skyrim then wait, if you like the idea of playing it again then grab it.

Thanks! Ive been wanting to try VR for some time. I will give my first try with Skyrim!

It's been a while since I played Skyrim, so I figured, why not. I paired it with Natural Locomotion, and it's absolutely amazing. Watching my first snowfall from a tower in the mountains was absolutely breathtaking. Is it perfect? No, of course not. Is it worth it? Without a doubt.

Good to hear. I think the more games like Skyrim that VR adopts the better. The problem with VR adoption has is there are very few games which have an extended life to justify the investment. The modding scene for Skyrim has kept it alive for such a long time. Now with Skyrim VR, I have no doubt it will entice many to make that jump.

Skyrim VR rocks. Skyrim also still has a very active mod scene, and the vast majority of the mods out there work just fine with VR. The VR release seems to have also focused a lot of new energy into the community with VR specific mods now starting to pop up. After adding 40+ mods, the game still runs great in VR and looks amazing. Going to be spending quite a bit more time in Skyrim now...

When Occulus came out I thought Skyrim would be the perfect game for this. And it is, from my gameing experience. It's a full featured world. I've bought Skyrim several times. I have bought Terminator 2 on every physical digital format. Quality products get my support.

I can't get mods to work though. The Nexus Mod Manager definently didn't work. Vortex will trigger a mod warning in game (thus causing saved games to have an M next to them), but none of the mods actually get in to the game. I'm just looking for better textures right now, but none of them are working for me. Seems the mod support is really hit and miss for people right now.

My GTX 1060 was no match for Skyrim VR though. It showed pains on Lone Echo, but I was able to deal with the slight stuttering. Skyrim was terrible. So I broke down and paid $600 for a 1070 TI. Fucking rediculous. I had to double check that, yes, the GTX 1000 series is 2 years old this month.....and zero news of the next generation. At 1.5-2x the price for 2 year old technology, why bother making something better?

Also, I like that they put the controller in the game. I'm still not used to the buttons, so when it says Y for some action, I can actually look down and see where Y is. There are already mods that replace the controllers with hands, so it's nice to have both options.

Also it's kind of cool looking at the controller in game and peeking through the nose hole and seeing how close the physical controller and virtual controller line up.

Well, you can feel a little better knowing the 1070ti is less than a year old :).

So I have been gaming on C64, Amiga 500, Amiga 1200, PC 286 through my setup now RTX 3080. And I have to say as a kid, C64 was cool, Amiga opened a portal to a new dimension I did not know existed. Doom was amazing as was Quake and Unreal, but since early 2000's nothing really pulled me in quite like Skyrim VR. I attributed it to the fact that I was no longer an impressionable teen. But I was wrong, properly modded for VR Skyrim feeling is as transformative as that feeling when I got Amiga 500 as a kid (probably helps that this is my first time playing it too). Have not been this addicted to a game in a very long time. If you have a proper setup, you owe yourself to try it. I even upgraded my VR setup just so I can immerse myself more into the world of Skyrim.

It's not because you are playing Skyrim for the first time either. I had played countless hours in Skyrim thought I was mostly done with it, getting bored of it to be honest.

But, when I started playing Skyrim in VR, It was amazing, sucked me right in. Even though the early VR versions had terrible controls and suffered tons of bugs it was still the stuff of dreams to be actually walking around inside that world. It has come on so much since those early days and now it's just a fantastic experience that's worth the time and effort to setup right.

It's a testimony of how great an experience Skyrim VR is, that I have over double the amount of time spent in the VR version over the pancake version. And I still go into the VR version regularly.

Still hoping for a few improvements in the next mods or game release. Wish they could figure out something with combat. Archery and Magic is fantastic. Using any other weapon isn't so great. And there are other things that need sorting. The controls for doing any of the non fighting things are still a little clunky.
