Amazon Warehouse Employees Pee Into Bottles to Save Time

The working conditions at Amazon were known well before anyone knew who Trump was. Bezos is indeed an asshole if this company has such horrid conditions, especially after all these years. Besides, Amazon prices are not cheap anymore. They're more expensive to the competition on many things and their shipping times are much slower. Why anyone would still buy from them these days is a mystery to me. Surely they're cheaper on somethings, but in general for computer hardware and whatnot there are better alternatives.
Yeah I'm being more careful in trusting their prices. Still not careful enough but I'll get there. Brick and mortar stores need to get smarter, they need to work in online ordering right on their shelves, and work in some nice clean sitting to do so.. too many times I find myself saying screw it I'll buy it online somewhere else.

I'll be honest and state that the US labour landscape scares the hell out of me. Being told to clear your desk because your boss feels like it just sounds wrong to me.

Another reason to welcome robot replacements, since they never pee or crap, you don't have to worry your stuff has been handled by unwashed hands. Of course when they decide to start sending bombs instead of books, well they'll have a thousand ways to kill you so it won't matter.

Well, from someone who used to work in a warehouse - I can tell you, yes, our bags were searched when we came and left. We were only reasonably allowed to use the washrooms during a break, and generally loose clothing was a no-no because working with mechanical lifts and such makes it quite dangerous.

Warehouse work is not something you make into a career though. It should be ample incentive to aim higher.

Not to mention their search engine is total shit too.

So basically warehouse picking/packing job is the same exact thing it has always been. I expect at least some hidden cam investigative journalism schlock here...

I wonder what those guys that climb the antennas do. I'm sure it will be mist before it got to the ground. What happens to the shit though? See how long you can hold it in climbing a ladder. Shit in a bag and use it as a hand warmer?

I would rather pee in a bottle than have to walk extra when I was on my feet all day. I would rather pee in a bottle than pull over to pee somewhere and I do it all the time when driving long distances.

Hmmm... Loos every 1/4 mile? And someone says it's outrageous (my term) that they don't have them every 100m. Let's see...1/4mile is 400m. Okay. 4 times more capital, plumbing, cleaning, etc.

Let's look at that 1/4 mile. If there's one every 1/4 mile, that means you're at MOST 1/8 of a mile away from one. The average human can EASILY maintain a 3 mph walking pace. So, using my [H] maths, I come up with:

1/8 mile / 3 mph * 1 hour/60 minutes = 2.5 minutes to walk to the nearest loo...at MOST. Sure, you gotta walk back, too. So, 5 minutes transit time. I've certainly had far worse in my work experience.

Maybe it's more the frenetic pace they're supposed to keep up during their entire shift, rather than the distance to the lavatories, which is the issue?

Wow, peeing in a bottle. My brother and I would have to do that when we were kids going to Disney World from NW FL down to Central FL (late 70's :p ). Unless my mom or dad (who was driving) had to hit the can, we had the big plastic bottles to pee in. Fun times, fun times.

Meh ... when I am CNC milling in my garage sometimes I have to utilize the ol' piss jug.

That makes sense, he is probably thinking distance of bathroom to bathroom but that isn't important, like you said, it is what is the max potential distance you need to walk to one. Now I am curious how far ours are at work, its like a minute or two walk from one to the other and we are a small warehouse, but one set in the back and another set in the front.

Not to also jump on the #meetoo thing but yea when I was at mcdonalds in my younger days, I had to take a hamburger with me to piss so I could actually get a bite to eat during a shift because we werent really given much for breaks.

This is BS. Nobody is going to piss in a bottle because they are afraid. They probably get docked pay when leaving their station for a pee break. So they chose to piss in bottles to stay on the clock... even if that is true... in America anyway. Nobody forces you to work in conditions you do not approve of because here in America, lazy asses quit all the time because they do not like to work weekends or some other BS story.. then they draw unenjoyment.

Well, on the other hand, they just fired here every single employee that was on strike. Yes, Amazon.

They clearly don't give a fuck about their employees.

You're right.. they DON'T care about their employees, they run a fucking meatgrinder of getting as much out of them as they can before they either quit in disgust or are terminated for raging. blatant stupidity. But those are actual TRUE issues.. and its the kind of shit that needs to be addressed but people ignore in favor of hyperbole and horseshit. Fill the air with noise and you make it so nobody can tell whats happening, and then they depend on the extremist 'the sky is falling!' fucktards for all their info to base their opinions on.

He what do you know, another BS story demonizing American businesses. Ex-employee says whatever happened...uh, huh sure it did pal. "Undercover" reporter that didn't actually work there undercover or get photos of the supposed pee bottles. Use your brains people. Wouldn't Amazon have the bathrooms as close as possible to the workers to minimize downtime? Or provide bikes like Boeing does?

And not being able to wear hoodies and sunglasses...it's a safety issue! They block/limit your peripheral vision. And metal detectors...no sh!t!!!! They don't want employees bringing in weapons.

Or just keep being a sheep and believe everything that every click-bait article tells you. AMAZONS CHAINS WORKERS TO THEIR DESKS!!! OMG!!! THEY ARE WORKING IN THEIR OWN FECES.

BTW, If I were the manager, I would have terminated them for creating an unsanitary condition and a risk to their coworkers!!!!

Your new corporate overlords.
Pretty much the Technocrat class today are repeating how things went with the "industrialists" or "Robber Barons" of the late 1800's
Trying to see how badly they can treat employees and how little they can pay so they can have it all & laugh at their slaves.

Probably the past will come to the future and eventually there will be a resurgence of activists unions and the darker parts of union vs corporate actual war before laws are once again passed to reign in greed.

That would make you a terrible manager and more of just an
authoritarian. A good manager would try and figure out why an employee would feel the need to piss in a bottle instead of using the bathroom.

Give me a break. How many warnings do you need to not piss in a bottle?!? If you are too stupid top know that you need to use the bathroom, YOU'RE FIRED.

24-hour endurance racers are forbidden from peeing into bottles because it creates a dangerous driving hazard. In accordance with the rules, they are required to piss in their pants.

But they're doing that for fun, so that's different.

P.S. You also get to piss your pants when you're in a contaminated environment while wearing an NBC suit. When I was in the Army I was selected to take an advanced course on NBC training for field conditions, which was unpleasant. I can honestly say that I was paid by the government to wipe another man's ass. I have tried to claim PTWD several times, but they keep pointing out that I was in full NBC gear at the time, so I guess that makes it ok.

P.P.S. Kressley, if you're out there, singing into your gas mask did not make it funny.

P.P.P.S. Song: Diana Ross, "Do You Know". The things you can't forget...

It's not that they don't give a fuck about their employees, which may or may not be true, but your story only shows they don't give a fuck about labor unions and all those who were on strike were employees who did not show up to work nor call in sick, and they dealt with them. And personally I don't blame them.

Some of the employees fired couldn't even get to work because others were on strike.

And they were on strike because they are planning to lower their wages whilst having record profits.

It is insulting.

Part of company benefits... Depends assigned to you for use while working... what bathroom breaks? =P

Not surprised. And this one's in the UK...

I've visited a fulfillment center site here in the US...it wasn't surprising.

The place is dirty, the employees trash the parking lot - sit in their cars on breaks smoking weed, eating McDonalds and throwing their garbage on the ground.

It's basically your run of the mill folks (for the most part) that are minimum wage capacity workers.

And these are jobs that require zero skill other than holding your piss while taking a walk. Here 's a list of where to go to find everything to put in a cart and then some else puts it in a box. People at McDonalds need better skills. So I am wondering just how much should someone like that get paid?

Amazon's view is just to save money at all costs as that is what will be best for the customer.

They are putting a ton of money and time towards highend robotics research. It's for two things, dramatically reduce headcount in warehousing and dispatch, and a longer tail for delivery.

They'll shrink their headcount by 300k+ as they solve it. So no, they don't give a shit about people that work for them, they're just a cog in Bezos's goal to be the most customer focussed company on the planet.

and they thought Ghina was bad.

if it were me, I would shit on the floor too

But people want their stuff yesterday, what's a little worker abuse and urine spatter on delivered products?

Have the amazon drones pick up and deliver these to the workers.

Amazon should thoroughly drug test the workers, then sell the drug free urine online. Everyone wins.

I question what the KKK has to do with a business founded by one of the most liberal people on the planet?
Not liberal enough for today's left. He's a capitalist, and everyone knows capitalists don't use the right pronouns. Oh and they're racist, probably sexist as well.

AmeriKKKan-style wage slavery is alive and well...
Yet embassies have gigantic lines for people trying to come here will break the law to come here. Including mostly POC trying to come. Really racist place. But we saw this when Hitler took over that influx of Jews to Germany. Natural phenomena.

It says that some have to walk a 1/4 mile, not that they're 1/4 mile apart, so double all your numbers.

He actually doesn't, he states that those on the top floor have to go down 4 flights of stairs, who and where the 1/4 mile thing came from is not mentioned, so it seems they just pulled a number out of their ass. However 1/4 mile actually isn't' very far, maybe for an office worker, but someone in industrial or large warehouses etc, this is not uncommon.

This is a complete load of horseshit.. nobody pees in bottles.. hoodies are not banned, you just keep the hood down because you can't hear or see with it up and there's powered equipment... everywhere.. this 'article' is just more "print the worst things you can think of, people are in the mood to believe ANYTHING you tell them..."

Pretty much was going to say the same. Almost impossible to believe unless their staff are a bunch of illegal workers. Though for folks on work visas it's plausible but highly unlikely it's this bad.

Who cares. I used to work outdoors with no bathrooms around. You do what you have to do.
