AMD CEO Lisa Su Speaks English

AMD"s ad money is probably good enough to fund half a dozen parties for the crew,
that's funny given AMD has been a part of F1 since 2006 either as a major sponsor with ferrari or a minor sponsor with other teams. they've also provided a lot of the hardware the teams use for their cars. so while they may be a nobody in the sport to the casual fans they're a major part of the sport as far as the teams go.

you're even funnier. AMD wants Ferrari. Not the other way around. You see that Kapersky sticker on the nose ? Same thing.

Embarrassing to say the least..

Just to chime in as a few others have, whilst so many seem to just love the drama and hop on the bandwagon...

Why is it embarrassing? I certainly wouldn't recognise her, and I'm a tech guy - why do you think it's embarrassing? I mean, he was in China after all, and so politely asked if she spoke English... just assuming she does and speaking English to her would have been worse, surely?

Really not sure why this is being reported all over the place.

US gov would never let that happen.

For this guy though... ya way to look like a putz. Oh look at all those fancy badges how did you get here ? lmao Moron I worked for a company at one point that sponsored a car... I somehow can't imagine this moron would have went and marveled at all their access passes. haha
Actually Martin Brundle is a nice guy the way the interview goes is the limited amount of time that they have because the start is limited to get some interviews and they would have to move in several minutes to speak to a good few of people then there away for the race.

Lol, he was so taken aback he didn't even really ask her anything at all.
Yeah because the start would take place shortly
To me the uncomfortable thing about his interview isn't the innocent do you speak English question. Its the follow up who are you and what are you doing here ? Oh look at all those passes.... hmmm I don't know dude do you think perhaps that is perhaps a clue that she isn't a no one that wondered on the track following a rich boy friend or something? That is the way it sounded to me ... but I don't know perhaps that is this guys thing. Nice snag/cock up ? for your first "Martin's random person" of the year. hehe I get that she isn't the most famous face out on that track... but still perhaps the multiple gold status passes around her neck are a clue she isn't a no one.
I think the amount of people they speak before the race (not just China also on previous races) has some diversity between them. Maybe because of the pace in which Martin speaks it makes it sounds like more of an interrogation rather then an interview , but it is hectic before the start and they need to leave and sometimes speak to drivers and move in between those times speak to someone to fill the time.

Lol...the guy really made himself sound like a superficial jackass.
She handled it quite gracefully though, she could've easily answered with "I'm the mothereffin AMD CEO bitch" </Sam L. Jackson voice> ... but she modestly only mentioned she is with AMD
From my outside view she seems a real class act (aside from her engineering credentials)
You should watch some more F1 on SKY there decent at least this guy (Martin Brundle) is good the manner in which he speaks seems a bit brash but the way it is done is pre race (last few minutes before) and they need to get moving around to do their short interviews with F1 drivers take maybe a minute or 2.

This is great!! the guy "Martin" knows who she is he just trying to get more people involved an give the audience a personal experience.

Well considering it was in China he'd probably been starting most of his interviews or even conversations that way. It's also kind of lose/lose for him: if he starts up some big question and she reacts with "no English" then he looks stupid and wastes time, if he politely asks if she speaks English then apparently that makes him an ass. I've only ever seen her on articles linked from this site and probably wouldn't recognize her otherwise.

It was strange that he didn't actually continue the conversation with her but he might have had the producer in his ear saying to wrap it up so who knows.
"Quick, whatever you do don't give AMD any good publicity!"

To be honest, I probably wouldn't be able to pick her out from a crowd. It's not because of her race, but rather she just looks normal and/or average. She doesn't stick out like most famous people do.
Agreed. I've watched her give presentations, but if I passed her on the street (or in the pit lane, in this case) I'm sure I wouldn't even notice.

He probably just didn't know what to ask the ceo of a technology company like AMD. He might have had a short list of questions and none of them seemed appropriate for the interviewee, wouldn't surprise me.

Yeah her should have used the American way. Walked up to her, talked extremely loudly and assumed she spoke English. Every American knows that if you talk loudly enough, everyone will understand you.

American summertime tourists != every american

This is silly. I know nothing about F1 but a quick Google search turned up video of him walking up to random people and the first thing he says to all of them is, "Do you speak English?" He's talking to random people at an international event, seems it would be silly to assume everyone speaks English.

Jesus fucking christ...

This journalist is a Formula 1 racing journalist who lives in the UK. Do you seriously fucking expect him to know details about every single potentially famous or rich person in the world that may happen to attend a race just by briefly looking at them???

At least you would be easy to recognise, you'd be the moron at the airport pointing, laughing and rolling on the floor in hysterics at people when they did not instinctively know each other when they happened to walk past each other...

Fucking trash thats let in this forum these days, with nothing intelligent or constructive to say.

Came here to say pretty much this. As a tech enthusiast, I wouldn't recognize her, so I'm not sure why a random journalist should have. I'm having a really hard time understanding why asking an Asian woman in China, at an international racing event, if she speaks English is stupid. I think it would be a lot stupider to assume she could speak English without asking first.

The only appropriate answer is a perfectly clear "No, sir, I'm sorry but I don't speak English."
