Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer

Meh...didn't excite me..didn't turn me off though either. I'll probably give it a go once it hits redbox, might purchase it outright when it hits blu-ray if the reviews are largely positive.

According to canon a wookie's average age is 400. Not unheard of in SW universe. Wasn't Yoda around 500.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Wookiee

Yea, Yoda was a bit more believable in that he was slow most of the time with only short bursts of energy, so lives long like those big turtles. But still, what is the measuring stick of years in the universe once you leave the earth solar system?

Every single line from Harrelson in both trailers is cringy. He looks like he could not give less of a damn about the movie and is phoning in his performance. Then there is the guy playing young Han. God damn he sucks as Han. Every single line delivery is wrong. He butchers what should have been a funny quip "130? You look good" from the second trailer.

Agreed. Either that or do something on characters that didn't get enough screen time. A Boba Fett movie, preferably one that erases Ep 2, showing him becoming such a good bounty hunter. An Obi-Wan movie exploring the time between Revenge and Hope. Or go further back and get the movie out of the shadow of the Skywalkers and show the universe during its glory days, before the Jedi become overly arrogant.

The Falcon looks like shit. They made it look "new". All white with random blue bits. This toy gives you an idea of what they're going for:

Ugh, we are absolutely in the straight to TV phase of Disney's Star Wars plans.

Pass. Yeah just keep the clones and homogeneous white armor to a minimum and I'll stomach it. If they keep pushing the alt right agenda though I'm out. ;)
Unfortunately, Star Wars has been queasily, very liberal.

Parsecs is a unit of distance. The whole story with the Falcon was believed to be a made up lie by Han about making the run.
I think its still light speed.

Hyperspace is deliberately vague, but the speed of light is way, Way, WAY too slow to make any sense in the context of the movies.

Whiners just stop. No one is holding a gun to your head to see this. The Falcon went through a lot of changes over the years do to battle worn and smuggling needs, Han says as much in the original series. FFS it's a sci-fi series set in total fantasy. Chewy being a 190 is no different than Yoda at 400 or lightsabers, or nightsisters.... Its fantasy to escape everyday life to go to a different universe for 2+hours. I get enough "Reality" in this everyday miserable fucking world. Same ppl who called Avatar Ferngully on Steroids without actually seeing it in theater 3d. Darrrr....

And since Avatar, what have we had without the Star Wars/Star Treks??? Valerian (which had promise) starring two ppl who look like they were pulled from a Trailer park methlab, Jupiter Ascending starring cross eyed Tatum and "I can't act my way out of a paper bag" Kunis????? Guardians of the Galaxy was really the first really good outer space movie in a long long time. Give me more SW and ST please in space.

Yep, looks promising... I'll give it a go... but for me at least, the Star Wars "magic" pretty much ended after The Return of the Jedi. It all pretty much went downhill from there. Just saw The Last Jedi and it was a cliche driven, pandering, hot mess. Thanks Disney!

idk, i'm probably as old/older than you (who knows?) but i enjoyed "rogue one"...

52 here... Rogue One came across as more of a side diversion/filler, which was its intent I guess. For what it was, I also did enjoy it, but I wouldn't say that it was a "great" Star Wars film, just OK. Better than The Last Jedi for sure, which had me rolling my eyes so hard that I think I may have bruised them. I'm thinking the Solo film will be along the lines of Rogue One, just a fun side romp/background story with lots of CGI/eye candy/action, but not much else. I'm not holding my breath as to it being a great Star Wars flic. Remember, this is Disney now... we'll see.

"Whaaa! Stop not liking what I like". That's all I got out your post.

PS: Avatar was a visual spectacle but the story was trash. Seeing it in 3D doesn't improve the plot.

Meh ... I have enjoyed everything but Episode 1 and 2, even the new stuff. Some people just take Star Wars way to seriously.

I read somewhere that Han didn't actually do the Kessel run, it was Lando.

Yaknow, now that I think about it, Han DID say "... it was the SHIP that made the Kessel run in 12 parsecs..." not HIM. Honestly though it's easy to nitpick stuff from the first movie, a lot of it didn't exactly make sense and Lucas was making shit up as he went along.

Well that left me Stone Cold (I've been watching the Jesse Stone movies ;) ). Maybe I've been spoiled by Joss Whedon's Firefly...if fact they should have hired Whedon to write and direct it.

To be fair, RotJ wasn't that great. It was 60% ewoks.

To be fair, RotJ wasn't that great. It was 60% ewoks.

Sure. But go watch the "making of" ROTJ and what they had to do WITHOUT COMPUTERS to do the Jedi space battles. Especially the opening scene where the dozens of Tie fighters streak past. And the speeder bike scene. Honorable mention to the metal bikini and Carrie Fisher said she could barely move in the thing without tits popping out. But yeah the movie did have a lot of steaming garbage scenes, regardless of all the Ewoks.

The speeder bike scene, along with some Top Gun scenes, were my go to home theater demos to show people what laserdisc was. T2 as well but that's not exactly fair since that one had a decade of technology to help it out.

True... the teddy bears didn’t help, but there was still enough there to not write it off completely as it did have some actual story, plot and acting that was passable. :)

but the same can be said for the recent Star Wars movies. Which means we have to face the facts: nostalgia paints a wonderful picture, but that picture isn't accurate.

Annnd there it is, next multi billion dollar movie for Disney no matter what... Fans will watch anything, and they know it in the end.

Everyone complains but so far I haven't seen a Star Wars movie I didn't like. More or less they are all Classic Westerns set in space, not some deep intellectual portrayal exploring the characters innermost feelings and desires. The original idea behind them was the Buck Rodger and Flash Gordon B movie serials, with cliff hanger endings leading to the next show. They have a mix of serious plot lines intermixed with comic relief and satire, which I do enjoy. I will agree that the pre CGI had a better look to them, just because I prefer that older film look.

I have seen all the movies, and I do mean all, I even have a copy of the Holiday Special in all its corny glory :) and the Droids animated films on VHS. I read most of the novels and it does make me sad that Disney decided to throw out all of that great backstory. The look of the Falcon does go along with what is in the book Millennium Falcon, which gives the entire history of the ship from coming off the assembly line through Han and Leia with their grand kids. I heard Lando call his droid L3 or something like that in the trailer but I was hoping it would be Bullox from the Lando novels.

As far as Chewie's age, even from the time of the original Ep4 movie it was rumored he was about 200 years old then, which would be fitting with the 190 from this film. As for Yoda, when he becomes one with the Force in Return of the Jedi he tells Luke "When 900 years old you become, look so good you will not!"

The Kessel Run was measured in Parsecs, a unit of distance not speed or time, because it was a treacherous run between three black holes located in the Kessel system, which by risking traveling between them you could save a lot of time, which was something most pilots would not even try, but Han was crazy enough to run as close to the black holes as possible to cut the distance down to 12 Parsecs. Another interesting thing was when the Falcon came off the assembly line, it was a simple saucer shape, no front mandible at all, those were options that were added later in its life.

I really liked Rogue One, but was hoping it would lead to a series of Rogue Squadron movies following the book series. I guess they could still do that, since they just gave an origin for the squadron name going forward. Another interesting ending was for the Rebels animated series, which leaves open an origin for Rey other than her parents being just scavengers.

Disney may not be making individual epic films to rival things like Gone with the Wind but they are still weaving together a web of plot lines with interesting tangles in them across multiple mediums.

The Millennium Falcon is more iconic and more of a character than even Disney probably realizes, hope they don't make it seem like trash or too OP.
If anything, the Falcon as it has appeared in every other SW movie so far is OP. It had dual rapid fire quad laser turrets, dual missile launchers, and retractable self defense guns for use when landed (as seen in Episode 4 and 5).

From what I've seen so far in the trailers, this is the Falcon BEFORE any of Han Solo's mods. This means 1, possibly 2 laser turrets... but the turrets only have 1 laser gun each. The missile launchers weren't standard equipment either. This one also has a cargo pod mounted between the forward mandibles making it look like one solid piece up front instead of 2 protruding teeth.

If you ever want proof of how OP the Falcon was, just watch the battle from ROTJ again. The damn thing flies almost as fast as a Starfighter but shoots down twice as many targets as anything else around it.

Yes and no. The original trilogy had a lot of faults but the movies (mostly) told a compelling tale with, mostly, compelling characters that make it rise above the problems. Also the original trilogy has Harrison Ford in the prime of his career. At a time when Ford cared about his performances and tried to put on a good show. By the time FA came around Ford could not care one iota. He was there in order for them to kill off Han and that was it. Kylo was horrible as a villain. Vader and the Emperor were incredibly commanding characters. They came into a scene and demanded attention, they demanded fear. Ren was a whiny little bitch in FA and never once came off as a credible threat. So that removes about 70-80% of the entire tension of the movie. I do think Ren was much better in TLJ. They got rid of the Vader wanna-be bullshit and Driver was a lot more comfortable in the role. Outside of Poe, the new heroes were massively underwhelming. Poe had some great moments, but Oscar Issac is not Harrison Ford, he doesn't have the ability to make other actors shine the way Ford could with Fisher and Hamill. Rey and Finn were...Well they worked when they were playing off Ford because even a Harrison Ford that doesn't care is still able to carry younger actors, but without him they're....Eh. Finn had moments in FA, but they completely butchered anything remotely interesting about him in TLJ. Same with Poe, actually.

Its not just nostolgia that hurts these films. Its simply that it lacks whatever ingredient Lucas and his team brought to the original trilogy to make it what it was. Abrams is too much of a fanboy and Johnson's style is just not compatible with a "traditional" Star Wars story. Rogue One is the only thing Disney has put out so far that felt like it honors Star Wars, that feels like it adds something to the universe instead of making it feel smaller or less interesting.

One of my big problems with new Star Wars can be explained in two words: Expanded Universe. The EU had a ton of problems and a lot of bad books and stories on its own, but there was also a ton of good and it really expanded the universe in ways to made everything feel so alive. When Lucasfilm axed the EU I was fine with it. I hated, and still do, everything in the EU beyond Legacy of the Force, but the lead up to Legacy and the events surrounding Luke's school, the handling of the new Senate, and so on were great (usually). However, I liked the idea of Lucasfilm making something new, something where they could tie in everything and make it all canon. Then they talked about how they were going to allow creators to use old EU ideas, characters, etc in the new stuff. However, nothing has stood up to that. If you're going to kill off something that has been going on for decades and replace it, you had damn well better make something that can match or surpass it.

Annnd there it is, next multi billion dollar movie for Disney no matter what... Fans will watch anything, and they know it in the end.

Barring the reaction being absolutely outstanding I can promise you that I won't be seeing Solo in theaters.

Actually, Bollux was one of the droids which traveled with Han and Chewie, not Lando. Bollux was a modified labor droid who had another droid, Blue Max I think, stored in its chest. He was modified by a smuggling outfit to hold the data retrieval/hacking droid. Sadly, my Han Solo Adventures book is packed away and I can't get to it so I haven't read it in quite a while and don't remember everything. Lando had a completely different droid with a name I can't think of at the moment since my Lando Calrissian Adventures book is also packed away. That droid was a starfish-like shape with tentacles.

This is a classic case of accepting subpar performances from the new wave of actors. The older actors actually gave a crap about their stories and characters they played in the movies where today they just want that pay day. Most of them even get way to involved with joining politics as well. The older generation knew where to draw the line (for the most part). The up and coming actors are meh at best......

This trailer looks horrible.

Oh man, they've been jamming and cramming the Star Wars Universe down our throats and for the most part, all the movies have been good but this .... this looks like we might finally see something truly bad.

I’ll watch it because it’s Star Wars, but the official trailer is cheese.

Have you tried the series Firefly? It might be right up your alley! (Space Western) It’s typically on Netflix.
