YouTube Kids is reportedly planning a new version of its app that will rely on human curators rather than algorithms to determine what videos are accessible. This “whitelisted” version will live alongside the current, algorithm-powered version of the app.

The source told BuzzFeed News the whitelisted option of the app could be released within the coming weeks. It's designed to give parents an option where they can feel comfortable letting their kids watch videos on their own, without worrying that they might end up in the dark corners of the internet.

Are they gonna keep demented shit like "Queer Kids Stuff" off of this version or is it just going to be another indoctrination platform to screw up our kids even more?

LOL.. what they dont realize is that the moment mommy/daddy leave the room little suzie is opening a VPN and sharing fan fiction of my little pony

Honestly, the ideal product for me would be a youtube kids app where I the parent can play gate keeper and am the curator of my kid's experience.

I'm absolutely sure there are some channels I'm fine with my kid watching that won't wind up in the app. I'm also 100% certain that there are a shit ton of channels youtube will be fine with that I would rather my kid doesn't see, or doesn't waste his time with.

in theory that sounds great, but in practice would be a tad harder to manage. Also 98% of parents want somebody else to parent for them so wouldn't like a system like that. You wanting to parent on your own is a rare trait.
