It's finally official, the Spyro series is getting a remake. Engadget is reporting that Activision and Toys for Bob have unveiled the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. The trilogy is an all new rework of Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage and Spyro: Year of the Dragon, with faithfully mapped original levels and loads of added details that weren't possibly on the original Playstation.

Check out the video here.

Lots of cool old games getting remakes lately. Shaq Fu excluded of course. Makes me sort of wish I owned a console... but not really. The article states that the trilogy will launch on September 21st for $40.

Thankfully, the trilogy also catches up with modernized controls (analog stick support in every game!), better cameras, updated cinematics, a 're-imagined' soundtrack and improved reward sequences.

My kid has been playing through the original Spiro on my old Playstation 1 the last couple weeks.
It's her favorite playstation game, better than the skylander games on the Wii.

I really liked Spyro 1 back in the day(dunno why I never got very far in the sequels), so I’m glad to see this. PS1 games especially need graphics overhauls due to the technology of the time, and I’m always a fan of platformers.

Has this been confirmed for PC, or just the consoles?

Agreed on the PS1 games needing a reboot, so many great titles, unfortunately, no confirmation or any word of a PC release that I've found

Sweet! I'll happily pay out to see games like this remade right. Crash last year was an excellent remake, and I'm happy to see another. There are a lot of great titles from the early days of 3D gaming that would be a lot of fun to play again with a visual overhaul.
