That information isn’t known for smash.

The sites I read are leaning toward wii-u port.

Octopath isn’t really a big title though is it? Looks like a retro indie game square bought.

2018 is shaping up to be pretty disappointing

Smash will probably be new, but more in the sense that Splatoon 2 is technically a new game, even though it isn't massively different. I wouldn't' expect massive changes from Smash 4's formula.

Octopath is SE's idea, though it is developed by Acquire.

How so? Just because a game isn't big doesn't mean its not good. Also, we haven't hit E3 yet. There still big rumors of Pokemon hitting this year, Nintendo has apparently been pushing Game Freak to get it done. This year isn't going to have all the big games of last year, Nintendo stacked the 1st year of the system heavily. And we probably won't see significant, non-port, 3rd party support from the big folks until next year either. The Switch's success surprised everyone so companies are now scrambling to support it.

The main reason I think Smash will be at least partially new is timing. If they wanted to port Smash 4 with Inklings, they could have already done that. Especially with Smash tournament season in full swing.
I think that the Switch version will at the very least include some additional content beyond what they did with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. At the very least, they brought in the producers from the other games which a direct port shouldn't need. I bet they start with Smash 4 as a base (it was well received), but with a slew of new characters and stages.

That is nintendo's problem, no money. Why would a 3rd party studio make a AAA game for switch exclusive. They will make for other consoles and i will play on other consoles with significantly better graphics.

If they can get virtual console and their online service launched... otherwise it might be a tough year.

If the Switch keeps selling even close as well as it did last year 3rd parties will do exclusive games, especially if 3rd party games sell well. Mario + Rabbids apparently did over a million units. A lot of that is likely due to Mario and timing, but it is still a strong sign. Indies seem to be flocking to the system. I think the system's biggest problem going forward is going to be the abysmal online system. Unless they do a massive overhaul when the paid service launches 3rd parties are not likely to be happy about all of the BS they have to deal with for MP stuff.

I got it on black friday, not a bad game.

I think it sold so well because there's nothing else to buy. Pokemon might move some units(i guess it's still popular, i'm too old) but other than that, i don't see why anyone who doesn't already own a switch would be in the market. Look for sales to drop off. I think big N realizes and is probably why i've read rumors they are pushing that studio hard to get it to launch this year.

I bought a Switch for my kids a few weeks ago when ebay had the 20% off coupons and all I can say is wow to Splatoon 2 . I bought Botw, and Mario Odyssey and have yet to play either game because I am so addicted to playing Splatoon 2. I wasn't even going to buy it but they have it at their mom's house so I figured I would pick it up to play online with them and I've already put more hours in to just that game than I have total with my Wii U. That's the extent to my Switch experience and I'm definitely loving this system. Coming from pc gaming I also like the motion controls and I'm surprised the other console's haven't come out with the motion controls yet it makes fps/shooters so much easier.

Playstation 4 has motion controls. They are mostly annoying. Odd you say that coming from a PC, can destroy people on either control or motion controller with a keyboard/mouse. I think motion is considerably less accurate than sticks even.

Maybe I worded that wrong keyboard/mouse is obviously superior. I guess I don't know how the ps4 implements motion controls but imo they are way more accurate than sticks.

Honestly, playing Breath of the Wild or Splatoon with sticks alone would be much more of a pain in the ass without gyro motion assist to fine-tune your aim.

That said, Splatoon also suffers from the fact that if you're using motion aim, you can't adjust your aim vertically with the stick, and I've had more than my fair share of moments where I metaphorically ran off the edge of the mousepad by moving my controller way off to the side of my display, and unlike a mouse, being unable to "lift-off" and re-center myself physically without throwing my direction back in the process. The best I can do is overcompensate by hitting the recenter button farther off than intended and then physically recentering back to the original direction I intended - the sort of kludge that will get you splatted at the worst of times.

BotW obviously doesn't have this problem because it only uses motion aiming when you're, well, aiming. Put the bow or scope down, and you can easily readjust your physical positioning while keeping the camera pointed in the right direction with the stick so you don't have to spend as much time lining up that next headshot. Oh, and you can still vertically look/aim with the right stick even when motion aiming's on. Splatoon devs and other Switch shooter developers, take note.

Funny thing is, Sony is no stranger to this; apparently, Vita shooters like Uncharted have this exact feature to make up for how crappy the Vita's sticks are with their limited throw (seriously, I was unimpressed coming from the 3DS's Circle Pads), and most reviewers approved there. It's kinda baffling that they don't take advantage of the same IMU motion assist with PS4 games, though I can understand it being less of a factor on PS3 games if the Sixaxis functionality only amounts to an accelerometer with no gyroscope (think Wiimote without MotionPlus).

Regardless, KB+M is still obviously superior from a shooter standpoint, but the requirement for a good mousing surface doesn't really lend itself as well to couch gaming in the living room with friends - the sort of thing Nintendo's always tried to push from day one. That and all the console FPSs I know of that actually support KB+M controls are all PC ports anyway; Half-Life, Quake III Arena (which even has cross-platform multiplayer with the PC version up to a certain patch), Unreal Tournament... yeah, I think you get the picture, and it's really baffling that most consoles since the PS2 have standard USB ports that can't actually be used for keyboards and mice in-game. There should be no reason for such an artificial limitation; it's usually the devs not caring more than anything.

Do you guys regret your Nintendo Switch purchase for the first time in about a year I see they are always in Stock at Walmart the Grey version sells better than the blue and red controller version.

It's been pretty much as expected for me. Nintendo franchises and the occasional "remaster" port. I still think it's overpriced and I'm still waiting on a good case, but it's not anything I regret buying.

No regret here, I got my money's worth with Zelda and Mario Odyssey alone. Waiting for some other first-party titles like Smash and Metroid. I wish they would put out a game like Ni No Kuni 2 or Monster Hunter World for the Switch.

They been ibstock regularly after Christmas. It really wasn't to hard to find stock even before. I think they reached their saturation point at this point. Which what about 15 mil sold at this point? 3rd party games don't sell on Nintendo consoles. The Wii sold so much more then then the PS3 and Xbox but still didn't get many worthwhile 3rd party exclusives. People need to accept that you buy a Nintendo system for Nintendo's games.

I am completely and totally enjoying the amazing content being released for my Switch. I am so happy I bought mine when I did, and now I am can continue to enjoy it more fully.

Great list of RPG's on there way for the Switch and some seriously awesome collectors editions too

The whole 3rd party games don't sell thing is pretty much out the window for the Switch. I don't remember the numbers off-hand, but Capcom was very happy with the numbers for SF2 on the Switch. Disgaea 5 Complete already sold 200k on the Switch, only 100k less than it sold on the PS4. While more second party than third, Mario + Rabbids has sold over a million copies. Indie games seem to be doing incredibly well on the Switch. Shovel Knight has sold faster on the Switch than any other platform the game was released on.

The Switch has a chance of being more akin to the DS/3DS than the Wii/Wii U in terms of 3rd party interest and sales. The system seems to be selling pretty well still, despite game releases having slowed down a bit.

The switch has enough decent indie releases that it's keeping people satisfied.

one does not simply wait on a good case in 2018 :p

I pretty much refuse to play in handehleld mode without the trigger grips ( other cases are just a joke when compared to them )
and subsonic stick grips https://imgur.com/a/HfDqo

got a pro controller on a stock clearance sale recently ( around 48$ instead of 80 :D )

this thing feels soooo good

joycons have clickier face buttons tho :/

and no, I do not regret my day1 purchase one bit, neither regret importing this 100$ beauty from Japan <3

played so many hours of zelda - mario kart - odyssey plus a good amount on Nindies like blossom tales, wonder boy and implosion ( lol :D ) and there will be many other games to buy during the next 4 months, from small third party productions like hollow knight and hyperlight drifter to even bigger titles, dark souls - crash bandicoot nsane trilogy - octopath traveler etc. This time around, buying a nintendo console is NOT only for playing the first party titles !!

I'm mainly looking for a case that holds things like the AC adapter, games, extra controllers/joy-cons, etc.
The closest thing I can find (that isn't the size of a backpack) is this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XDYVXDN
It's less than elegant, but it does work and I can lug around all of my extra crap on trips. I feel like that's something the Switch world is missing. A case that's designed to hold a bunch of extras. Most cases are too small to hold anything but the Switch or they're humongous. Considering the size of the Switch box, they should be able to fit into something along that size with a pocket or two for extras.

Hollow Knight - year old
Hyperlight Drifter - 2 years old
Dark Souls - 7 years old, multiple sequels already out
Crash Bandicoot Trilogy - 20+ years old !!!!!

Octopath Traveler is the only exclusive current game you listed, but turned based battles???? Color me excited :( I put my switch in a drawer because i got tired of dusting it every month.

I just bought a Switch and was looking at getting a 1-2 controllers for it. Is there any other alternative controllers that may be cheaper than the Pro? Or should I get the pro controlller? I have Mario Kart and Zelda so far and plan to get Smash Bro's in the future.

Seconding the Pro Controller mentions since it's a hell of a lot more ergonomic and has a real D-Pad, but for Smash in particular, here's a tip: Nintendo actually supported the Wii U GameCube controller adapter they put out for Smash 4 on the Switch with a firmware update (4.0.0, I think).

It works just like a Pro Controller, except that you obviously don't have zL, stick click-downs, a Select/- button, Home or Share buttons, which may make some games unplayable. Still, I figure they'll account for this for the new Smash, since I see no other reason for Nintendo to sneak in such a feature; high-level Smash players swear by official GameCube pads, enough that they had to re-release them for the Wii U version!

That said, if you're not that insistent on a GameCube pad, a Switch Pro Controller's bound to be a serviceable substitute - moreso than the Wii U Pro Controller and its WTF placement of the face buttons down low, anyway.

Really want a switch to play zelda and mario + rabbids but at this point im just going to wait for a XL version and pokemon lol.

Small question here. Recently received a Nintendo Switch and it is working well except for one issue. The joystick on my left joycon seems to have a fairly audible crack when I push it to the right. So far I do not seem to notice any control issues but I am worried if something is damaged internally? Anyone else care to comment on their joysticks? Any cracking sounds?

Would Nintendo be willing to send a single new replacement joy con free of charge? I've never had any joystick for any controller make cracking sounds, so I am a bit worried. If it is par the course for the Switch I wouldn't mind. I've only had it for less than a week though so it does seem a bit off that it may be making cracking sounds so early.

If it bothers you warranty it. Nintendo is really good with their warranty program.

You should be able to get a replacement, I never heard about the problem before. Usually the problem with joycons are related to calibrating.

Nintendo revealed more details about their paid online service. https://www.nintendo.com/switch/online-service/

Some quick notes:

$3.99 per month/$7.99 for 3 months/$19.00 for a year/$34.99 per year for a family plan.
Family plan can include yourself and seven other users.
Starting May 15th users can create a family group that will be used for the family plan..
Cloud backups for save data. Details on this will be revealed before September.
Will launch with 20 NES games that have online multiplayer capability.
More details to come later.

I imagine they will talk more about it during E3. At least I hope so.

I hope that it improves the online infrastructure. Right now online gaming on the Switch is akin to the PS3 at launch. It's passable at best and unplayable at worst. Encouraging wireless by default has been torture for any game that requires any level of precision.

Nintendo and online never been something that amazed anyone yet . The fun part is where they keep voice chat of the Switch and people require a phone for that app.

What makes me wonder if there is a technical reason for this.

There is no technical reason. Nintendo didn’t want to deal with Switch users being called n*ggerf*ggot while playing Splatoon 2.

Put as much of a cost barrier between 12-13 year olds and a right to speak online as possible? :p

Makes me wonder if it's somehow related to the disclaimer about your online experience being unrated...or however most games phrase it. As quirky as the online play is for most games, sending audio on top of it sounds disastrous, too.

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/20...initive_edition_confirmed_for_nintendo_switch

Bandai Namco have today announced that Tales of Vesperia will be released this winter and it will be coming to Nintendo Switch along with PS4, Steam and Xbox One.

Something to look forward to I guess ...

Also coming to PC according to Amazon preorders which is rad. ToV is what I consider to be the best game of the entire series. To finally not only be able to play the extra Japanese PS3 exclusive content but to do so on the go is a dream come true for myself.

You did not connect the Steam that was mentioned to PC. Did not do that the first time around either ;)
