VR developer Abhishek Singh has released a video of his concept for an Alternate Reality version of Street Fighter II on the Unity platform. Even though there is no chance that this version will make it to market due to obvious copyright issues, it is nice to get a glimpse into what video gaming in the future could evolve into. He previously developed an AR version of Super Mario Bros that also looks like fun! Check out his projects on his website.

No matter you stance on AR and VR, there are few gamers that would not be somewhat entertained with AR Street Fighter - Real World Warrior Edition. Thanks cageymaru.

Check out the video.

I wonder how long before you get tired of holding your phone/ipad in front of your face for this? Looks good and great new tech just not as comfortable as holding your device in your lap or on your desk/table.

There are more advanced devices like the MS Hololens, but also way more expensive. So I suspect most will be holding their phones in front of their faces for awhile longer. ;)

as a street fighter player, that's more Street Fighter the movie when it comes to animation over Street fighter 2. God that Tatsumakisempuukyaku that ken did was slow as ever living hell lol.

I mean don't get me wrong I guess this is cool to be able to watch a game someone is playing on a phone without having to look over their shoulder, but meh... no interaction with the environment this is just superimposing a set of images over another image, is this really all augmented reality is? Because that kind of sucks, I mean shit you could take a photo of the street and then stitch that into the background to get the same view.

fighting, RPG, driving, flight games etc VR/AR there are many awesome genres that can benefit from it

awesome as hell if your eyes and physique allow you to enjoy what VR/AR can offer.

matter of time before really nice standalone units that have many hours worth of high performance negligible latency regardless of platform at a very low cost ((current units are not too shaby for what they offer really, but, when you add in that you need a fairly high end system or expensive smartphone to tap into them, are not exactly "bargain friendly")

I think there is a great deal of potential to the idea and can open many avenues beyond enjoying gaming far more fully than ever before, designing, learning instruments, teaching etc etc.

really are interesting times big time for good and for bad, now if they can only figure out how to keep folks living well, healthy with money in their pocket where $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is not the only factor (like that will ever happen, even though it is absolutely possible)

I can picture with this SF accidents absolutely happening where you get frustrated by a "buddy" playing head to head, take off the headset and beat the living crap out of him/her O.O

Next up - DOA Beach Volleyball.. augmented reality game! Bring an extra battery pack because those jiggles really work over your phone's chips.
