LCD Image Retention: Why is This Still a Thing?

Lg v10 when hot too, goes away though.

My 2017 ipad pro has 0 image retention. Not sure what you are referring to.

What I’m referring to is the 2017 iPad, which obviously uses a different panel to the iPad Pro models. That said, it’s not like Apple is a stranger to panel lotteries, so I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if two units of any given model contained different panels.

Hrm, I know it has the "True Tone display" or some sort of buzzword but I figured the panel was the same. If I got an apple product with image retention I would return it. in the last 10 year's I've been good.

Some of the 43" 4k ips monitors (philips, aoc, dell) had problems with retentions and burn-in. The last ah-ips 4k 43" from LG (43UD79-b) is free of it. It seems when new variant of panels appear in the market, the first cheap alternatives have some of this old problems.

PS. I´ve had a Motorola G4 phone that has terrible screen retention, strangely only in the lasts firmware and fixable via kernel modification of the RGB values of android.

I've never had an LCD screen with image retention problems going back to 2004. I was very shocked when I saw those 43" 4K screens having IR issues.

I would think that any image retention in an LCD would be caused by a bad design of the control circuits used in the product. crystals have a default relaxed state, and only change when voltage is applied. So if they stay slightly in one state so as to show some IR, then they have to be holding a small bit of voltage instead of dissipating it properly and completely when voltage is removed.

Best offender in this category I have is NEC 2080Uxi. If contrasty image is displayed on it for long time there will be faint ghost image for some time, especially visible on colors like this forum. It is not permanent.
Monitor which replaced it on my desk Acer XB271HK have this issue too but much less pronounced and fades even quicker. It is so small many people won't notice it.

Imho it is nothing to be bothered by it even on this NEC
