Far Cry 5

I'm fine with the helicopter movement.

Has anyone tried using a controller for the plane? I might try that later
The controller plane controls are pretty dumb. The shoulder buttons do the ailerons (banking) and moving the stick left & right do the rudder (yaw), so totally ass-backwards. They have a few options to switch the control around, but not to anything else that makes sense. The helicopter controls (and in general)are.. something else.

Where the hell are the lighters? I've cleared almost everything I've come across and haven't found any
I found a shop selling maps for both the lighters and the comics for the same type quest from a different NPC. iirc the guy was on the south side of the map, actually south of any of the familys territories, right around where John & Faith Seeds' territories meet. They were 1200 each iirc.

EDIT: Fired up the game and it appears those maps are available at all shops, not sure if you need to quests first or not to see them. They're at the bottom of the Items list where you can buy first aid & explosives/ammo.

feels like I'm already over-powered after completing the first major region...any weapon seems fine as long as you have 1 assault rifle, 1 rocket launcher, 1 sniper rifle and 1 pistol...also get yourself an ATV and helicopter and the game is fairly easy...also get the repair tool to unlock safes...don't even need to use the Guns for Hire NPC's

you are definitely overpowered from the get to. I mean, its super easy with any weapon to just walk with the sight up and head shot everything. Toss a red dot and done.

yup, it's only worth changing things up to complete those Challenges to get the Perk points...even those are pretty easy to get

perks are stupid simple other than the few that unlock when you do specific things. I'm still finishing up all the random stuff in Faith's section and I'm already scraping the barrel with what perks I should choose. Everything i have so far is what I want/need.

Just purchased the game. Wow....Im impressed. Not only does it play great on my GTX 980 & 32 inch Omen, it looks amazing! Really loving it so far. :) Playing on High Settings.

I have that mission but haven't collected any of the lighters yet...one showed up on my map in Jacob's region...

You can buy the map of lighter locations from any store after you get the mission to retrieve them. You need to zoom in the map to see them. The map system is a bit strange in that when you're zoomed out (default view) you don't see everything. Maybe Ubi was trying to prevent icon overload in the default view.

The lighters are worth tracking down since each location is in a bunker with some loot and a prestige point magazine, and when you complete the retrieval of all 12 there is a final stash as a reward.

I got in an attack chopper and flew around the map getting them.

This game doesn't necessarily shine when you simply find the easiest way to accomplish something .. once or twice to feel godlike, cool, but that's why the challenges tied to points for unlocks are so varied - to encourage diversity in weapons and approaches.

Like I realized once I unlocked TULIP (attack heli) which also unlocks Adelaide Drubman as a Gun For Hire that flies her own TULIP as your wingman, you can faceroll the entire map. Fun for a bit but gets boring.

I think my biggest wish is that the AI system would be more adaptive, in that if you're continually killing shit the same way, then it ratchets up the intensity of the counter to it (ie if you're always killing from the air then the anti-air gets more intense; if you're always long range sniping, then counter sniping gets more intense, always stealth killing then they turn around watching their back more often, etc).

I do wish for a New Game+ as well.

I've been playing on hard with no tags or the detection indicator, makes the game better imo, you have to go a little slower

sounds like you just want better AI. I can do things any way I want, and I do, but it doesn't make it any more difficult.

I've totally given up on using anything with a scope on a pad. It just flat-out misses or they just absorb the damage in an absurd way. With iron sights (or the overpowered bow) I can take down just about anything within 75 yards in 1 shot. With a scope of any sort on any weapon I'm worthless.

yup, the game is super easy, playing on hard too, i've never died once so far, i've actually only been using melee weapons because it's such a breeze, the pistol is incredibly overpowered from the beginning, and i don't use vehicles because they're so overpowered too, i can get from one point to another so fast on a vehicle it makes the game way to easy lol i just run everywhere and even then i rarely ever sprint because that's super OP too. i can't believe people are using helicopters and sniper rifles rofl might as well have the game play for you then! hahahaah

helicopters are fun to use...I use them to destroy the silos as well as for the armed convoy missions...plus it's fun getting a birds eye view of the map...I also fly as high as possible then jump out and use the wingsuit :D

I hope none of you here run into the issue that myself and a lot of other people are coming across. Everything I've read about it thus far say that starting over from the beginning of the game is the fix Ubisoft support is pushing right now. Unacceptable.

So much for the 7 hours I had invested with a friend. Almost makes me want to uninstall the game.

lol, holy shit

Personally I consider FC 1 and FC 3 the best of the series. FC 1 being tops because it was different and unique at the time of release. FC 3 being the second best after the first game. I been playing FC 5 a lot. About 1/3 the way through. Killed John and now in Faith's territory. At this point I'd say FC 5 is on par with FC 3. Its that good. Really enjoying it. A bit pricey at $60 I feel. $50 would be a better top price but people can argue it in many ways or the other. Having said that though I am getting my money's worth out of it and so far haven't tried co-op mode. I want to play through once on my own first to experience that single player aspect. Does anyone know what the difference between normal difficulty and the hard difficulty? How they change that up? I'm curious about that.

The garbage save system is probably my #1 criticism of the game, although apart from that I've been enjoying it. I guess it's designed around arcade mode or something, because of the shared perks or whatever, but its checkpointing is awful, and half the time the game doesn't even offer the option to restart from the last checkpoint.

ugh, I can barely bring myself to play this game. It is just so godawful boring. Fake events plopped everywhere to create interest but that is just another fail. Then you have the annoying ass cult screen every time you fast travel. Ubi has just run this formula way into the ground.

I couldn't resist, so I purchased the game, turns out I'd have been better off without it. I already plowed trough it, and it's basically a Wildlands "light edition", with a bunch of annoying things added on top. I plowed trough it during the holiday just so I can take the piss out of it in a review: Review the game you finished recently.

Throw that effort in to the map editor please and make us a gem!

K thanks!

Yea the game forcing you to complete it when it wants is annoying as hell. You can't just explore a region and do the basic things over missions because you'll eventually be forced to complete the region. I did Faith's region first and the only main missions I did were the ones the forced me into. i missed playing so many side missions and other main type missions because of that. No longer can I just explore and kill off all the bases then work on missions like you could in 3 or 4.

One thing you didn't touch on (unless I suck at reading) is that your character is just a mindless drone. 3/4 you had a name, a voice, a personality. It allowed you to feel more invested. With being the nobody it is like playing any other old school FPS sort of thing.

Still feel like there is so much less to do in 5 over 3 and 4. like they took 3/4 and paired it down to the bare minimum.

but the shear randomness of things still makes it fun. See so many silly things going on at times just have to laugh. AI planes crashing into each other. helicopter smashing into the ground and taking out a car. then you get the weird like a moose smashing into a car and the car hits another car and that car flies like 50 feet in the air for whatever magic reason, comes back down on moose, explodes, sending moose and other car flying. Other car hits ATV and people go flying...those moments.

I should replay fc2. Never finished it anyway. Not in a hurry to play this new one. I recall fc2 was some fun firefights.

FC2 was technically an amazing game. The issue was that the gameplay just wasn't all that great.

I actually really liked a lot of the survival aspects of FC2 but enough people complained that the series went easy after.

There was someone around here that would chime in whenever Far Cry 2 was mentioned with a huge rant about how terrible it is. I think it was requiem18 but I'm not sure if he's still around, and names have changed over the years.

My experience was that it was fun to run around and burn things for a bit, but the gameplay mechanics overall sucked ass. Respawning checkpoints being a standout in my mind.

ok I am at the point of fuck this game already....

I can't stand this hand holding game breaking BS where it just forces you long as you do mundane and not even story critical missions.

I think only the Main Missions auto-complete if you haven't started them yet...all the Side missions remain even after beating the area boss...starting with the 2nd area (Faith) I started doing all the Main missions first...that way once the boss fight comes I know I'll still have all my other missions still available

I think I need to replay FC2 rather than waiting for FC5 to hit $12!

Ha, I actually reinstalled 2 after playing 5 for a while. I loved 2 despite some of its more annoying flaws (aggressive respawning, malaria). Although 5 seems to have a few respawning issues of its own.
But 2 had a uniquely nihilistic and melancholy atmosphere. Plus it runs surprisingly well on my laptop.

yea 2 was fine for me as well except the malaria thing. I didn't really mind the whole aggressive respawning. They could have patched that I think. Just make it take longer.

point is I didn't even get a chance to do main missions either. As that resistance bar goes up, you are forced into completion. so there were things I never got to do just because I went around the map exploring and what not first. So now i would have to play again just to see what the missions were that I didn't get to play. that is stupid.

I'm still not sure how I feel about Far Cry 5. There are a lot of things to like, but so many quirks.
At first I thought it was going in more of an Elder Scrolls type of direction, but it's only surface stuff. In reality it's definitely more of the same content from the last couple FC games. It's been re-skinned and tweaked for a different tone, but it's the same type of game. I don't know if that's bad or not because I liked those games. I think I was just hopeful it would be more unique after the intro. It's more of the same even if it doesn't seem like it at first.
I think that's one reason you'll probably see a big drop off in people playing it after a month. It's very much deja vu if you've played the other ones.

As far as FC2 goes, I wasn't a fan. I played about halfway through and got bored with it. Something about it just wasn't fun or fresh. I completed literally every single thing in 3 and 4, though.

my issue with FC5 is that it's fun in the beginning but after you finish the first region you're pretty much overpowered and the rest of the game becomes too easy...I'm trying to complete those challenges which involve catching certain fish and wildlife to take away from the repetitiveness of the story missions...I do like the Seed brothers as villains though and I like that they are seen sparingly throughout the game

Far Cry 2 was right up there with the first game in terms of quality...unique setting and great graphics for its time

This game's sound design deserves to win some awards. I hope it gets a proper soundtrack release as well because there's really good music in this.

did you guys watch the FC2 comparison video above? It is pretty amazing how much more realistic the game world is in FC2 vs later games. I think the problem comes from catering to console limitations.

I really didn’t have any issues with the gameplay. The malaria thing was mildly annoying, but on a second playthrough I made sure to keep a good supply of medicine, so it only really sucked when I had an “outbreak” during a firefight or something. Otherwise it was manageable.

And, of course, the respawning guard checkpoints were a little silly but quickly dispatched or driven around.

I didn’t mind the weapon degradation but wish it would have been patched to take a little longer.

Aside from that, it was AWESOME to walk around that beautiful barren landscape and play the two warring factions against each other. Sure, you can walk around with a sniper rifle in FC3 and find a good point to pick off guards at a camp, but it had a different feel in FC2. Everything was so serene, but there was a menacing undertone to everything.

Like many, I didn’t really care for the game at first. Years later, I dove in again and really gave it a chance. I was hooked and played it to completion. Would love to do so again some time.
