Cybersecurity research firm Gemini Advisory has revealed that luxury retailer Saks was hacked. Approximately 125,000 of the 5 million stolen credit and debit card numbers are already being sold by a hacking syndicate. It appears that only brick-and-mortar customers were affected, as the data was stolen with software implanted into cash register systems.

The theft is one of the largest known breaches of a retailer and shows just how difficult it is to secure credit-card transaction systems despite the lessons learned from other large data breaches, including the theft of 40 million card numbers from Target in 2013 and 56 million card numbers from Home Depot in 2014.

I dunno. I did POS for a while and the proper way for credit cards numbers, was use and toss. Why did their software allow credit card numbers to be persistent to the point they could be grabbed? If its just a keylogger, I have no more to say.

I guess "secure your fucking network" is just too hard now. ;)

Hey maybe something will happen now that the "cut budgets, deregulate everything!" crowd is getting robbed.

too rich for my $$$. didn't shop there so no worries for me. hurry...pass a bill to protect themselves of data breach

whats trully sad is that if this news article was released say.. 15 years ago.. it would be a funny april fools day prank article.

but today.. it just another day that ends with Y. and one doesnt even need a clock for such stories nowdays since its ALWAYS day zero.

I mean seriously.. think about it.. when was the last time a whole week had gone by without at least 1, but usually many more, stories of such data breaches. its been so long i cant remember.
