The extra power of the PS4 Pro will not go to waste in God of War, even for gamers without 4K displays: game director Cory Barlog tweeted that the title would include a “performance mode,” which will provide a faster, smoother gameplay experience in 1080p.

It’s not clear if 4K TV owners will also have access to a similar mode, as this sort of support is not standardized and typically varies with each game. Horizon Zero Dawn, another PS4 exclusive, offers the choice between performance and visuals regardless of the TV resolution. A similar solution could be implemented here.

As an owner of a PS4-Pro... I am glad some games and companies are making these types of changes to the games. I still love my 42" 720p plasma that I do all of my gaming on. I actually bought the PS4 pro for performance enhancements, smoother game play, possible more steady fps in games. Threw a 1TB ssd in it for faster loads etc.

End result meh.... But I'll take any advantage I can with a 720p TV that looks better then a lot of the 1080p LCD and similar technology out there.

man.. i need to upgrade to a Pro... but there aren't any programs that are like: trade in PS4 + $100-140 get a pro.

This is the kind of thing that will encourage me to upgrade to a PS4 pro. The 4 k crap I couldn't care less about as I'm not buying a 4k TV anytime in the next decade. Higher frame rates at 1080p however is a difference I can notice.

Trade it in to GameStop and get like $170 for it atm I believe. Depends which model you have.

I bought one at Costco to test out, and while how loud it was ANNOYED the hell out of me, it hasn't been bad with 2 ps4's at the home. We ended keeping our spare ps4.

Just swap out the GPU... oh wait... lol!

The only component you can upgrade is the Disk Drive. Can't do a gpu swap on deticated game consoles however some hackers have managed overclocking the gpu. So tinker nerds still have that but might want to stick to pc regardless because theres many more components to tinker with.

Just got my first HDR 4K TV. A Sony X900E, upgrading from a Sony XBR910 HDCRT. Wow! what a step up in visuals. Using a regular PS4 and it is performing so well, and looks so good, I can't decide if I should drop $400 and step up to a Pro. The standard PS4 even supports HDR.
