Far Cry 5

IMO all vehicle controls in this game suck, I mean, just driving around can be painful. Also, while I love the game, the cut scenes can be a little obnoxious...

The story in this game is fucking retarded and it's far more annoying than fun when you're dragged out of what you're doing because you raised your resistance shit another notch. Also, the AI is just as dumb and you can clear just about any encampment in the game by standing 200 feet away and plinking with a silencer. Or strapping C4 to Boomer and having him run in.

Also also, if you need money, just get Boomer and run around in a forest for 10 minutes and shoot every animal you see. Marvel as you walk out with $6000.

MINOR SPOILERS BECAUSE THERE'S NOT MUCH TO SPOIL:

Like fucking honestly some "hunting party" sniped me in the fucking leg with an arrow while I was flying in a helicopter after one mission and I guess I fell out, was subsequently kidnapped, given some kind of psychedelic enema, forced to fight magic ghosts from the darkest reaches of my psyche, then apparently during this shit show, managed to meander halfway across the map and fall off a 400 foot tall cliff and survive... or something.

In at least one region, this shit happens like literally 4 times.

They just gave up on developing any kind of sane plot or reasoning behind _anything_ whatsoever, threw their hands up, and fell back to literally magic music boxes and voodoo butterfly ghost ladies who can mindfuck you at any given instant because of reasons. The villains don't even get a chance to feel like villains, they just feel like borderline faceless, utterly shoehorned horseshit who you have no meaningful reason to care about. Did I mention one dude captures you like 4 fucking times... I don't know who is dumber here - him or my character. They might as well just say everyone is a supernatural witch doctor and get it over with. You may think some of this sounds interesting, but it's actually astonishingly flat and lifeless.

So... wifey and I just did the tutorial and after "liberating" Dutch's Island, we tried to co-op - nope, didn't work. When trying to invite, the game would just show a spinning circle logo.

MANY Google searches later...

If you got the game through Uplay, you might need to add it to Steam as a non-Steam game, and basically launch the EXE which will trigger Uplay to launch, and that will "fix" the networking into allowing you to invite people to your game.

Yes it's 10PM on a Saturday and this is a functioning workaround.

Whatever game journalist was whining about the cost of rockets in a plane or helicopter versus the amount of money you acquire by just playing the game is an idiot.

I've played the game for 14 hours, flown a plane or helicopter once or twice, and not at all needed to buy rockets, I'm sitting at around $30,000. I've used the bow and one of the automatic rifles w/scope for most of the game, just switched to an LMG. This is just as I suspected, the in-game real-money stuff can be completely ignored and is only there for people that focus more on buying stupid stuff than actually playing the game.

I read a review somewhere right around launch where the guy complained that by the end of the game he could only afford to buy 1 weapon and that blah blah something Ubisoft is fucking us again. I'm pretty sure he was a fucking moron who simply never sold shit.

In practice, I've never once not been able to buy anything that I want.

1. Get that perk that doubles skin drops.
2. Shoot every animal you see.
3. Never have money problems ever again (unless you buy everything for the sake of buying it).

I ran from 1 mission to another (granted it was like a 2k run) and accumulated like $6000 just by shooting animals along the way. Don't even bother using a bow, just blast them dead.

Bought the game on the xbox, keep having an issue where the quick swap button for the weapons keeps going to the rocket launcher at random instead of the pistol(m11) I used last. I'll be in a firefight and run out of rifle ammo and end up shooting a rocket, generally into someone very close to me. It's really starting to get on my nerves and along with other random small bugs is making the game really a pain to play.

Another thing that bugs me is the swap weapons button on the xbox is the same as collecting stuff. I'll end up having the game loot something/one and then swap guns with something shitty on the ground.

I'm really annoyed about the co-op progression, especially when Ghost Recon Wildlands had it more or less okay.

This kinda bugged me too.

on PC with KB+M the button is also the same but to swap weapons you need to hold down the key while just clicking it collects stuff...

Does the day/night cycle only kick in after Dutch's island? Also, is it normal for CPU usage on an 8700k to average around 45%?

I'm fine with the helicopter movement.

Has anyone tried using a controller for the plane? I might try that later

Pretty sure Dutch's Island is a tutorial section and therefore it's highly controlled (i.e. no random spawns, no aggressive animals, no travel off the island, and yeah, day/night time suspended in day).

CPU utilization was never truly an issue with Dunia? If anything FC5 has shown how to do more with less (although I think there's a very aggressive LOD cutoff, as well as some very sneaky/ingenious corners cut in rendering).

So far I haven't felt the need to try a controller but then again I haven't gotten serious with any planes yet, either. I like how the chopper handles as well. "Less is more."

I'm a completionist so I'm doing every main/side mission I can in John's region before moving on to Faith's area...I've completed 47/52 total missions...2 of the remaining ones are the comic collecting and lighter collecting fetch quests so they're going to stay awhile but I don't have any icons on the map for the 3 remaining ones...the 2 best side missions in John's area was the alien encounter and the bull testicle collection

Where the hell are the lighters? I've cleared almost everything I've come across and haven't found any

found the last few missions...one was a Prepper Stash hidden all the way on the far Southeast of the map in an abandoned mine...

Where the hell are the lighters? I've cleared almost everything I've come across and haven't found any

I have that mission but haven't collected any of the lighters yet...one showed up on my map in Jacob's region...

hey are you folks getting surround sound in this game?

So far loving in it. These games just give great things sometimes. Saved a civilian, go into a building, hear a commotion outside, look out the window, guy I saved was being eaten by a bear.

I am kinda roaming from area to area doing side missions and thus far I have 2 lighters that were not the result of missions. I just found them after reading notes laying around.

I really like this one. Saving for the .50 cal so I can send the brother to the lord with a bang. Love the random things in this game. The snake attack was a real thrill. :D

apparently there is sniper rifle and shotgun that you can get at the very beginning of the game. and you can earn 100k per hour hunting, so there is that

Is the Prestige boom cannon thing that is painted worth buying? I have the alien gun which I'm assuming is better.

This is the first game I wish I used ReLive more often. I had a generic rocket ally and the hero rocket ally. They did some friendly fire and one went flying up in the air and a hawk nailed him mid air lol.

Is there a way to set up ReLive to like....how do I put it.....

Say I want it always recording, but to delete itself every 10 minutes UNLESS I notify it that I actually want the recorded footage? Otherwise I foresee an insane amount of storage being used.

Yes? However... it probably varies heavily on how your setup is (Windows + Sonic/Dolby, or "gaming headset" software, or your card truly is 5.1/7.1) and the game just goes with whatever Windows tells it.

the voice acting is also top notch...the weapons also sound really good

A lot of the same models used in FC3 and FC4, with maybe slightly less variation than 4 (which had a ton of assault rifles).

I think you want ReLive Instant Replay (use CTRL+F here https://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/DH-023.aspx#Recording).

Im using an xfi with a PC speakers in a box. It works fine in other games.

Playing this with a pad is strange. It feels like the aim-assist works...but it assists you to aim beside stuff instead of AT it. Especially with a scope. I'll shoot all around enemies and whiff them constantly.
Like I kinda figured, the bow seems overpowered again. Silent, typically insta-kills, retrievable ammo, etc. I can't hit the broad side of a barn with the guns, but I can slaughter an army with a bow.

True, the bow is OP as usual. Try using a shovel. And throwing bats at enemies' heads.

Then again, there's this guy (also as per usual):

I'm getting surround sound with HDMI PCM, no issues. Haven't tried using my X-Fi yet, just make sure you have both Windows speaker config set correctly and the speaker config set correctly in the Creative Console Launcher.

you can also put a silencer on nearly every weapon...although doesn't seem like a viable way to completing missions as enemies, choppers etc seem to spot you no matter what

yea it is set correctly :(

I've opened up some stealth perks (top priority) and if I'm quiet and I stay crouched the aerial vehicles have a heck of a time spotting me unless of course I'm right out in the open field and not under some trees. It does admittedly get a little unforgiving once they do get a bead on you but I've been in situations where I was able to skulk and hide even in outposts and the alert level would die down. It can be done.

Hopefully it's a simple as a driver issue or (fixable) conflict with certain hardware. This is the first game that has had legitimately good positional audio in forever.

So the Girl's section is annoying as fucking hell and doesn't even make sense or I missed something. Running along doing stuff and BAM in bliss dream world...

then randomly I saved the marshal??? WTF???

Also not liking that your character is just a nameless person. feels like a step back. 3 and 4 felt more involved because you had a personality behind the person you are playing. Can we get more generic than being called "Rook" Also feel like a lot was removed in a way over 3 and 4. Now of that stuff may have just been fluffly filler but I didn't mind. Seems like there is less to do and find. I had no problem running all over the place picking up diamonds and what not and trying to open every single piece of loot, boxes, whatever.

I did figure out my sound issue. 4.1 surround is not supported at all but if I make it 5.1 and uncheck the center speaker it seems to work just fine.

also seems really easy.

Agree with all of this.

I do not like the "bliss" area.

I completed all the missions in John's area and am now in Faith's territory...I don't mind the bliss hallucinations...change of pace from John...I really like the Montana terrain...when I first heard about the setting I thought it was going to be dull and boring especially compared to the exotic areas of the previous games...but this might be my favorite overall setting...reminds me most of Far Cry 2 which was way under-rated

what a pile of shit!!!

I am so angry. the Harbine River area fucking progresses WITHOUT YOU HAVING TO DO ANYTHING!!!!

I did no missions and I completed it just by walking around and locating things, killing shrines and outposts. All the missions I was roped into without me having to do anyting.

all the missions that were possible are now GONE. I can't do them now.

Where the hell are the lighters? I've cleared almost everything I've come across and haven't found any
If I remember correctly, the lighters are down in those underground bunkers next to small cabins. They have a hatch leading down a ladder. That’s where I found 2 or 3 so far.

Is there any way to save and/or load save games? I see that there's a "save" option under the menu, but it doesn't seem to actually do anything. The times I've tried it, the next time I fire up the game I'm in a totally different place.
Based upon the claims of people losing certain missions, I'd like to be able to progress in a more cautious manner.

feels like I'm already over-powered after completing the first major region...any weapon seems fine as long as you have 1 assault rifle, 1 rocket launcher, 1 sniper rifle and 1 pistol...also get yourself an ATV and helicopter and the game is fairly easy...also get the repair tool to unlock safes...don't even need to use the Guns for Hire NPC's

the Save button seems to save your progress regarding missions, Challenges etc but it doesn't load your save from the exact spot...as far as losing Missions make sure to concentrate on the Main missions in each area...you can always go back and finish those Side Missions even after beating the area boss but some of your Main missions might auto-complete

I just got the lock pick skill to open safes.
