Just curious if anyone knew why and if I'm getting screwed?

What I had: SSR-1000TR (Platinum)

What they are sending SSR-1000TD (Titanium)

isnt titanium one step above? can I ask where they told you to send your RMA to (if you are in the US)? I have a seasonic RMA I need to do but first I want to see if postage is worth it :/

Hello,

Like you may know, there's a high demand on PSU >850W on the market and when we don't have the exact replacement, we exchange with a PSU of same specification/performance or above. In your case, we shipped you a Titanium unit instead as we didn't have any Platinum and to avoid you to have to wait longer, it's better to upgrade you than make you wait few weeks. Any question you may have about this, please contact us anytime.

Thank you.
Best Regards,

I didn't want to say anything until I was sure.

So I received the titanium replacement power supply. Changed nothing simply plugged it in. The thing went nuts with my battery backup making it click on and off repeatedly for about 5 seconds before I could yank the plug and burned itself out.

So now I have to RMA yet another power supply.

And I bought a new one locally from another company and I'm back online.

Of course the replacement did manage to take out my Corsair 95 keyboard.

I am by no means an expert on power supplies, but I can tell you that in all my years building PC's (close to 30) I have never had a powersupply go, ever. The fact that you have had multiple in a short period and one of them taking out a usb device, yet not the board(?), makes me think you have a power issue elsewhere.

Hello,

Sorry to read this issue. I may suggest to contact our US office ([email protected]) in order to provide them all info (RMA#, test done, etc..) for them to check this. However, please note that the way a power supply is working, it's most likely not the PSU that damaged the keyboard.

Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience.
Best Regards,

Best Regards,

Considering the light show it put on with the battery backup and the fact the keyboard was working prior to it being installed I doubt very highly it wasn't the cause.

So now I'm out another 20 dollars for another power supply to ship this one back to you guys again.

I've been building for just over 20 and I too have never had a power supply go out until now. But considering I replaced this one with another brand and it fired right up with both my RAID 0s and my Raid 5 I dont see how it could be another piece of hardware.

Hello,

You may want to contact our US office about this and they will assist you for the replacement and RMA process as it's a second RMA. If PSU is faulty, our US office will assist you on the shipping.

Thank you.

So the replacement PS blew out whatever was causing the short and sacrificed itself in the process. New PS runs fine because the short was cleared.

Wait... did you swap out all of the PS cables or use the ones from the Platinum?

I had no choice but to use the same cables as they specifically state they do not want them and will not replace them

And you are guessing wildly to the cause since the first PS just shorted out and shut down. The second one went crazy then shorted out.

And in between the two power supplies from Seasonic I bought a smaller 500w just for testing and the computer fired right up.

And my keyboard was working between the RMA since I had it plugged into my secondary desktop. It only failed after the RMA and I seriously doubt a keyboard could short out a power supply.

You have some other issue going rather than a PSU issue if all of that is accurate.

I have two theories, might want to have fire department on standby for the third attempt.
