Far Cry 5

I just spent 10 minutes reeling my first fish on a hard fishing zone. Man it's tedious. In game time went from night to day back to night. All the while hallucinating thanks to the gas and listening to the dream chick. 5lb small mouth bass....

I wish they had 3rd person mode for the driving...helicopters and wingsuit are great!

Oh thank god!!!!

Its probably worth mentioning that the system has been honed considerably. There are 9 "special" AI companions each of which have some rather noteworthy skills. For instance, Boomer the Dog will A) automatically loot bad guys for you, possibly giving you extra loot/money. B) When attacking human enemies, will steal their guns and fetch them back to you and C) Automatically tags nearby enemies as visible thanks to his fancy sense of smell. He also will point and growl at danger of any kind. Each of the other special AI companions have similarly useful abilities over a wide range of skills and situations. There are also 3 slots for "generic" companions. These will have various classes (ie Soldier, Pilot etc) and they too may have useful skills - however, generic allies require their 2 skills each to be unlocked - I see at 5 and 12 kills each, so it won't take long. When you start you can summon 1 AI companion at a time, but there is a perk that allows you to use 2 when playing solo - not sure the rule for co-op play.

If you don't ever want to use the AI companions you don't have to, but they have some nifty abilities. Also, you willl probably want to use each of the 9 special allies at least for a little, as each of them racking up a certain amount of kills unlocks Perk points you'll need. Generic allies have a global (any generic ally) Perk challenge for kills as well (I think its 15 kills by generics - so we're not talkking about a ton here)

Edit: Has anyone figured out if you buy a customization (ie a sight upgrade or suppressor) for a type of gun, it will "stay" constant for all of that type. That is to say, I have both the standard 1911 handgun, the "prepper pack" 1911, and the "ace pack" 1911 - Do I have to buy a Red Dot Scope for each of them individually?

Likewise, can anyone confirm that - in pretty much all cases - picking up a gun in the gameworld unlocks it without having to buy it? I have seen this happen so far but I just want to be aware if it only applies to weapons you could currently buy, or all weapons (ie for instance, even those that otherwirse requiire Resistance Levels you don't yet have, to unlock)? Conversely, it seems that vehicles are NOT automatically unlocked when you drive them and must be purchased, right?

One of the only letdowns I've found is the lack of bladed melee weapons. As cool as the shovel can be, it seems that the lack of edged melee is a bit of an oversight.

I opened up a perk that lets me use two companions at the same time so I'm running with both Boomer the dog and Peaches the Mountain Lion. Quite a nice complementary tandem.

I'm afraid so. The rest of your question I'll have to look into more tomorrow.

driving them doesn't unlock them...that would have been nice but would have made buying them pointless as you find so many out in the open world...you do get a bunch of vehicles unlocked by doing specific story missions...only vehicles I care about are the ATV and helicopter

I really wish you could chop people up with the helicopter.

I tried dive bombing and angling the nose way down, hoping the blades would hit ppl.

womp womp.

You also seem to get vehicle unlocks from the diamond stashes etc. I think I have 4-5 unlocks just from poking around.

This game really shines with hilarious oddball coincidences though.

I was in the crop circle field trying to shoot one of the hawks down bc they were pissing me off. As I was staring up a wolverine ran up and climbed on me. Scared the shit outta me!

I'm really annoyed about the co-op progression, especially when Ghost Recon Wildlands had it more or less okay.

I hate it when fishing, fighting a stupid fish for 10 mins, then BAM, a cougar or bear starts eating you...

I'd expect that to be addressed in the near future via patch.

That's what this game has done better than its predecessors for sure: Go out, explore, get into shenangians, find loot, get rewarded.

This game has the best balance of "RPG" and "FPS" of the series to date and I agree with others: For me it's easily the best of the series since part one.

Decent game. Graphics from 2013 era. Paper thin story. Put in only 55 minutes though but really is just a sandbox game for killing shit.

Really? It'd be nice but I dunno- FC4's Valley of the Yeti DLC worked the same way. The entire thing could be played in co-op but the host got the progression.

That's what bugs me I guess - this is definitely better than FC4's co-op but it's going to still require both players redoing missions and unlocking certain weapons/vehicles/etc.

airplane controls are too janky for me...I like the helicopter and wingsuit for air control...also having Nick Rye around as a Gun for Hire air support partner is great

I don't see anything to address in a patch since its by design. To facilitate asynchronous co-op in a branching quest system (drop in, drop out rather than requiring both players always be present) then one player (the host) has to be the master or it creates all sorts of new problems in the guest's quest logicflow. You have events that require making a decision, so only one player can really be in charge of that. There's only one protagonist.

Borderlands series, Dying Light, they work the same way - pretty much any drop-in co op does it this way. You're still gaining XP and loot in any case.

I was reading on another forum that once you face off against the area boss (one of those Seed brothers) that whatever remaining Main Missions you did not complete automatically gets removed and there's no way of getting them back...is this true?...I almost have enough Resistance points to face off against Jacob but I only completed 20 of the 52 Main Missions in that area...

Beat John last night with quests available. Quests were still available afterwards. Maybe just certain quests with a story implication?

were the Main quests you had yet to complete still available after beating the Seed brother?...I hear the Side quests will all still be there...I've been focusing on the Main quests for this reason

I'm pretty sure one of them was the flag icon marker. Are those the main quests? I'll try to log in later and see if I can remember.

I've noticed after about 45min to an hour of game play, my game starts to "lag" a little bit. My FPS never drops below 60 FPS, either. The first 45min or so, the game is silky smooth.

Anyone else having this issue?

I have task manager up on the other screen and when I play, I just see the memory use going up and up until it gets close to max and then the frames start to crawl. However, restarting solves the issue. For me it takes like a few hours to get to that point though, rig in sig.

From my understanding, you can have V-Sync off if you have G-Sync enabled on your monitor. Is that correct? Or is that only for certain games?

I have G-Sync on, then turned off V-Sync and got tons of tearing....

Yeah, restarting solves my issue, too. It's not that big of a deal but is a small pain in the ass.

You are correct about Gsync, if it is enabled, then vsync is off. You should not get any tearing with Gsync on and vsync off otherwise there is something that's not configured properly with your software and monitors.

I found game runs better with latest drivers from Nvidia. So far its a solid game, I've not had any issues.

Found settings for my 1080Ti and 4K monitor that I'm really happy with. Initially with default settings I had a lot of screen tearing, and thought I'd have to go SLI to max everything, but that's not the case.

(Strix 1080Ti OC, 2000/6000)

Everything Ultra
Motion Blur: Off
Resolution Scale: 1
FOV: 90
VSync: Off
Frame Locking: Off
Vertical Sync (Nvidia Control Panel) for FarCry5.exe: Fast

I get 70FPS pretty much everywhere with zero screen tearing. If I drop Shadows to High I get an extra 3 FPS and its indistinguishable from Ultra, but don't need it.

I was running drivers 388.xx something to fix an issue I was having with 391.xx with a couple games that would crash after using their in game menu.

On the old drivers, Far Cry would crash in the opening fly-in.

Updates to the newest drivers fixed this, and it runs great!

Also-

Haven't quite figured out how saving/loading works.

When you die/respawn, it doesn't seem to load necessarily right at your last save- a little bit before.

I'm used to something like skyrim/fallout that loads whatever you last selected "save", but this seems a little different.

Pretty much. Be sure to pay attention to the sometimes hard to see three "..." in the upper right corner. That's an indication of the game saving. You do have manual save available most of the time when you pause the game as well, thankfully.

It's been pretty fair. In one case it was arguably generous to me. I had hit some location with a bunch of enemies and slopped it up and got killed. When I respawned and came back there they were gone.

I beat Faith last night. Wowsers that some insanity in every sense of the word. Tough fights.

My thoughts too pretty much( though to be fair I'm running a gtx 760)

But I got off that stupid island and then it was basically GTA in the woods. Story bored me right off the get go so I veered off and pretty much started killing everything I saw good, bad, animal.... set a small island on fire.

Then my little brother joined me for some coop and raiding outposts was actually pretty fun! And many hilarious situations in between.

the plane controls suck (KB+M)...helicopter controls are so much better...I just completed one of those Clutch Nixon stunt missions which involved completing a timed course (in a plane this time) and it was annoying as hell...took me over 10 tries to complete it only because the controls suck

I was trying to use a grapple hook to Tarzan along the bridge, and would manual save halfway through and each time I would die, it would re-load to just before I started. Can't
understand...

I liberated my first region (the one controlled by John)...the boss fight was annoying because the plane controls suck...my head was spinning with all the upside down and weird movements...seems like dogfighting in airplanes would be a lot more fun with tighter controls

Both the plane and helicopter controls are dumbed down to the point where they are literally trucks in the sky. The helicopter doesn't even move in response to cyclic changes. You can literally point the nose to the ground and it still hovers in place. This isn't how helicopters work. This isn't how any of this works. Ubi why.

I think if they made the controls exactly like flying a real plane or helicopter no one would know how to fly them...in a game like this you need to balance realism with fun factor...that being said they made the planes so much more annoying to fly then the choppers
