NVIDIA's Next-Gen Will be the 11 Series

In an exclusive report from TweakTown, Anthony Garreffa says that the next-gen of NVIDIA graphics cards will be called the 11 series, and not the 20 series. Garreffa's source also claims that the cards will not necissarily end in 70 or 80 like we are used to.

I expected the 11 series, it made sense, but losing the 70 and 80 naming scheme seems odd to me. Perhaps we will see more at the GDC keynote.

NVIDIA could launch new graphics cards with names like GeForce GTX 1185 and GTX 1175 instead, differentiating them against the GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. I could see this happening, as it would be an interesting move for sure, and I really like the idea of a GTX 1185 for example.
 
Why would this seem odd?

I personally would like to see people who have been in tech for 10 - 15 - 20 - 25 years or longer not only see and understand the writing on the wall but report on it. A lot of us already know what to expect moving forward.

AMD is a non-player when it comes to performance. They are out, out and out of the picture.

With that in mind, you're going to see a lot more ass-fuckery in marketing and naming schemes from nVidia.

Personally, I'm expecting smaller performance gains and higher prices along with a few added SKU's.

Also, nVidia doesn't have to release a 1170 or 1180 ... they could come out with a 1150 ti and kids would go ape shit bat crazy right along with the crypto miners,

nVidia is going to make a hell of a lot of money whatever they decide to do even if that means screwing over the guys who by high-end cards every cycle.

I'll say one thing right now, I dare them to release a 1150 or 1160, I sure as hell won't buy one.

I think they will probably wait until a major architecture change to change the arch of the nomenclature. I can see the 11 series as a logical order. They have stuck with this arch for quite a while now with the 2 series right?
 
I am half expecting them to go back to the GT and GTX monikers. Having an 1120 GTX out perform an 1130 GT and have both out perform the 1150, but all loose to the 1101 for it to be phased out by the 1101’s upgrade the 1100 alpha for it to be re branded as the 1200 Omega next cycle.
 
Well, considering all the shortages, its possible it's just a rebrand/refresh with higher speed memory, or GDDR6. Current market conditions will allow Nvidia to get away with that.
 
ITT: A bunch of people who are now realizing why The Fed uses such odd, bland language. People will try and read everything into rumors, half truths, and pure vapor. It's even kookier than the tea leaf readers.

Reminds me of people thinking the XBOX One was going to be called the XBOX 720.....which would have been more fitting since it could only handle 720p bahaha.

I think the days of purchasing big graphics for a lot of users will be done away with in the coming years because of all the gaming-on-demand that will be coming to us soon.
 
Changing name schemer because hey why make it easy to udnerstand what we are selling...
 
So uh....the keynote was yesterday...no new Geforce only Quadro and DGX were unveiled.
 
I think it would be good if NVidia went this way. 11, then 12, then 13 etc... I think it makes it simple for consumers to follow it over the long term. And with 2 starting numbers it gives them about a hundred years of ability to consistently name. If they would be around that long or the marketers don't screw it up.

If it ever happens it will be more than a couple years. The PC gaming market is ridiculously healthy right now. Remember years ago when people were crying the death of the PC, consoles are going to take over etc.... Now days we are seeing $1000 GPUs and people are buying them. Now days the consumers are pushing all by themselves for esports so heavily that they can fund 24 million in prizes. Now days games are breaking 3 million concurrent active users on PC alone. We are seeing articles like this where people claim that PC gaming is now part of the racial divide when people start claiming that you know your shit has hit big. Esports alone is approaching a 1 billion dollar market with the big bucks and big games all on PC. PC gaming is doing this against all odds. Now days people buy wimpy laptops with about 1 mm of air cooling clearance they have phones, they have consoles they have every option out there to not bother PC gaming yet they are paying $800 for the fastest monitors. This sort of interest tells you that people value the flexibility, interface and advantages of PC gaming. And people who value all that aren't going to settle for on demand lag. I personally am seeing tons of console gamers coming to the PC gaming side as they mature from COD kids to having jobs and money. I view arguments like yours sort of like talking about renting vs buying. Sure you can rent an apartment and that's great, don't have to mow the lawn, fix anything, know anything but in the long run it cost you more and over time people might shift a little one way or the other but in general people will always want to buy homes for all the advantages it has. And rentals will always be a game of over charging and under delivering. On demand game streaming, will be just like that too.
