Hi all.

Just looking for a healthy 1 to 2 TB HDD that is in really good health.

I can't afford much, but will pay a fair price for a good drive.

Thanks.

Wyo

Edit:

Would consider an around 480GB SSD, of course.

My WD Blue 1TB just croaked. The SATA port snapped, an I'm screwed.

I'm screwed.

Help.

The SATA port on the HDD broke off, leaving just bare pins for data. The WD Blue is still under warranty but I wonder if they'll cover that. The problem was caused by my Dell Precision T3500 having this stupid/annoying panel that swings down. Drives get installed on the panel, and then you can swing the panel open to access RAM, CPU, etc. Well, the locking mechanism on the panel is flakey so when I took the side case panel off, the swing down panel just fell open, breaking the SATA data port on the drive. The SATA cable was too short.

Sucks.

Do you guys think WD will fix/replace the drive?

In the meantime I just used an Amazon gift card to get the very same drive.

My guess is no, they won't. Doesn't hurt to check though.

Ouch. That would do it. Inclined to agree WD is unlikely to cover that, but check any way.

Sounds like the hinge on the swing panel is worn out. Hard to say what these used workstations have been through. And these are made to be serviced laying on their side. Which is why they have rubber feet there. That said, I am not a fan of that HDD panel either and remove it completely. Mostly because they stay warmer there. This is what mine looks like with side removed. Two 1-tb drives up top. No adapters needed.

Susquehannock, yeah, the panel has to go. Thanks for the pic. Sure looks cleaner without the stupid panel.

Other than that, I still really like my T3500, but sometimes I wish I could fit the MoBo into a new, roomier, case.

Do you still have the chunk of blade that came off? I've used it as a guide to get the wire on and then super glued the fucker permanent.

Unfortunately, no. But this happened before, and I was able to glue the Data and Power connectors together. That worked fine until just recently when the panel flopped open. Now it's just too messed up. I should have removed the panel long ago, like Susquehannok suggested above. And I should have used a longer cable. Although I think SATA connectors are way too fragile, I can't really blame Western Digital, and I doubt they will honor the warranty.
