With the prices of video cards I'm always keeping an eye out for open box deals at Microcenter. I see they have an EVGA GTX 1060 3GB for a good price so I ask to see it. The 'Guy' brings it out, I see it's a nice straight box that the 'Guy' tears into ripping the card from the bubble wrap outer rapper and static bag and hands it to me. It looks new, still has the protector on the slot and the covers in the outputs. I say looks good i'll take it. He then proceeds to stuff the card back in the static bag, rams it back in the box, holds out the bubble wrapper and ask me if I want it. He then picks up the box from the counter and in a whirling motion goes to hand it to me. Before the box reaches my hands the card comes flying out of the box and plunges to the bear concrete floor, I was sick at my stomach. He could have cared less and picked it up from the concrete. Without a mention or apology for his careless handling he asked me if I still want it. I didn't even look at it to see the certain damage and said 'Uh NO.

The current idea is that a lot of women work the stripper pole so they can pay for college. This guy is looking for a career "you want fries with that?'

College didn't save a lot of people..."Career" thought..I do not know...maybe a job is just a job.

He probably claimed that you dropped it on the floor after you demanded to see and hold it in your hands as you fumbled it, then told the manager it was trashed and if he could keep it for a paper weight - ;) He may not be as dumb as you think. :D

I've had to tell idiots a few times to STOP wtf they are doing.

Same thing with a video card last year. Returned 1080 ti for $679 or something, blower type. Guy put it down really hard on the counter and I was like, "fuck, be careful with the video card I might buy, you just slammed it down on the glass counter."

Guy is a retard. He talks loud and spits on people due to his loudness. I haven't seen him in awhile. Maybe he is gone. lol.

Another guy was handling ram by it underside, walking around in loafers on the thin pile carpets they have and I had to tell him, "don't hold the memory like that, ever"

Not dissin any occupation. Just that a crystal (eggs...fragile things) salesman is first taught to not drop the crystal. Its too easy to 'not' drop a $500 product..........selling it pays for your wage.

well yeah...you're ignorant still to pay that for even the 6gb...it's retarded right now...that's a 300-350$ gpu....

....just quoting the markup that folks can get. "I" wont pay that but some do. I am still looking for a 1080 Ti at $700, but I bet that it will be a long time. Just because I posted numbers doesnt mean I would drop the cash. Making the point that its an expensive card and harder and harder to get one at MSRP's.

Everyone knows that cards have become commodities and proof of supply and demand.....and there a lot of 'retarded' folks paying double+ for a card because thats what they are going for.

I'm not one.

Fry's would have just put it back in the box, shrink wrapped it and put it on the shelf.

I think they do this sometimes on a regular occasion to get rid of lingering marijuana "smells" from being in the stock room, but maybe that's only done for things that find their way back into the stock room (?). It is Fry's or Fried?

As someone who was an employee at Fry’s about 20 years ago, I can say this is an accurate statement.

You can send me some if you want, it's lameee up here man...no reefer go zone lol

I have seen this first hand twice. Once with a power supply that you could smell was burned up through the box and the second was a case fan that missing a blade. All labeled, "Open Box"

Best Buy is just as bad if not worse.

"Breaking news retail stores hire unskilled morons to work for cheap because they aren't qualified to do anything else"

This is what degrees in gender studies gives you. Useless morons. Or better yet social justice degrees.... Useless moronic morons.

And society is expected to advance science and quality of living with people holding a degree in how to avoid micro aggressions lmfao.

The last time I bought an open box item at Micro Center in NY. I took it to the counter and asked the guy if I can open it and examine it. The guy said yes. I opened it, examined it, and bought it.

you understand we voted a shit ton of those jobs away and retail isn't the dregs anymore, it's the norm?
no? of course you don't.

Well then go on and explain to me about how all of these part time shelf stocking cashiers are highly skilled college educated people of an advanced society just working at walmart\target\grocery store\any cash register because they can do better.

Eh, could have asked to test it in a machine first. The only moving parts that might be damaged would be the fan in the cooler. (this obviously doesn't include things like the PCB getting damaged, etc)

Or just easier to nope out and find a different card elsewhere. :p

A case fan missing a blade? I would laugh out loud if I saw someone trying to sell that
