We talked a bit about Ion Maiden a bit last week, and now we are seeing some real gameplay from folks playing the game. The game is in Early Access and selling for $18 today on Steam. While a bit of nostalgia seemingly goes a long ways, I am not sure multiple hours of gameplay for nostalgia's sake is what the market needs. Then again, since you can no longer buy a GPU, maybe this is what the future of PC gaming actually looks like.

Check out the video.

3D Realms (Duke Nukem 3D, ROTT, Prey, Max Payne) is excited to bring back our famous Build engine, which powered Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior and other 90's hits. Of old-school throwback games, ION MAIDEN is the real deal, using our original tech from that famous era that launched the FPS genre. Welcome to ION MAIDEN!

I must be getting old, or maybe it's my constant exposure to 4K: DVDs and 25-yr old video game engines make my eyes bleed.

I was about to pull the trigger the other day but only a handful of levels are available at the moment.

The soundtrack for this game better live up to the name.

Thankfully it seems to be good old MIDI synths. Love em.

I think it's cool to see new ideas in old engines.

I enjoy taking time through the levels and see what tricks they might use to approximate modern effects.

The other day I played Shadow Warrior classic, laughed at the graphics, but after 5 minutes couldn't stop playing.

reminds me of the serious sam games, albeit with less action and shittier graphics...

I have a strict, no EA policy. I'll gladly by your game once it releases and it hits the right notes.

sounds like that fake techno music that the goofy chick on NCIS plays in her "lab"

I am INTERESSTED but not hooked yet, so... bigger enemy sprites, i dont care how - scale them if you have to like hexen did, but enemies seem puny, music seems --- light and shitty.... and sfx are hilariously bad, no really...

BUT the one liner homages - YES! (C&C Ive got a present for you! hit me in the feefls)
Interactive sprites models - YES (chairs etc)
Weapon creativity - YES
Theme - YESYES
DOOM homage Explosion corpse gibbage - FUCKYES!\

Lots of good yes! but I dont wanna spoil the dev like I did with Butthole/Bluehole... Finish the damn game and Ill pay you $30.

Just like the 8bit revival, i wish they'd stop jerking off the early days of FPS
