Peder Norrby is using the Unity game engine to put together a cool little app that is a great example of eye tracking being used on a smartphone that is fairly impressive as shown by the video below. The app is free and available.

The whole illusion runs as an app on the phone, there are no external devices used. The iPhone X introduces 3D head tracking (face tracking) using its TrueDepth camera. This allows for inferring the 3D positions of the users eyes.

It wasn't that long ago when that sort of processing power was just a pipe dream on a desktop, let alone an oversized phone.

Finally a 3D display technology I might use. probably not good for multiple people though :(

Honestly with the 3DS doing this a while ago I'm surprised it's not more common on all phones. And I would imagine the iPhone is smart enough to see both eyes and project based on the middle of those two points, kinda odd that he's doing it with one eye only, maybe easier for dev purposes?
