The Division - officially announced for PC!

I'm one piece away from having a full set of D3 Classy's and I'm already enjoying the set more than the original version. It has even come in handy for PvP (in a team), which you could never say about the 1.5 version. Using MarcoStyle's build for the most part with some old Damage Resilience mods for the shield. Not sure if they still scale as well as they used to, but my shield rarely goes down, so I'm not complaining.

If you find your time to kill is a bit high you can replace the Damage Resilience mods for Ballistic Shield Damage Mods they max out at 4% so an extra 16% damage is a great trade off.

I have a few of those, good idea. I only spec'ed one piece into Firearms, so any little bit will help. I did manage to get a half decent House, and loaded it up with CHC & CHD, so it isn't horrible. Still, it's no Striker build.

Odd that this is not a universal experience then since we all have the same devs.

Of course it's a universal experience. What character Mob in the Division that is approximately the same level as your own can you one shot? What human being in real life can withstand a full clip and not at least go down, even with body armor?

The game isn't even remotely realistic in this manor, I love the environments, the feeling of running down the streets, etc. But when I have to go through .... well .... multiple clips and still have a mob I can't kill, wll that isn't a game for me. Too bad too, it's so pretty and I really love the environment and feel of playing it. It's just spoiled by the bullshit gaminess which is taken to an extreme.

I do understand your frustration, especially from a "Tom Clancy" series game that has historically been more realistic. However, to be fair, the Devs were upfront about this from the beginning, stating they want to mesh two genres together that hadn't really been done before. Kill times during 1.3 were much, much worse than they are now; enemies are almost squishy by comparison. The RPG mechanics don't fit the realistic world they created, but the strategy they require does offer a fresh gaming experience... just not one everyone, like yourself, enjoys.

I one shot plenty of mobs in legendaries...

The things that get under people's skin in videos games. This was never billed as a real life sim. Where can I buy a real gun with predatory on it?

Refresh my memory, what's "in Legendaries"?

And do you still have times when you have to use three, four, mags to kill a mob, any mob?

Never said it had to be a real life sim to be "realistic". I never said "realistic" requires absolute realism. A freaking resemblance would still have me playing though, instead of asking you what you mean by "in Legendaries".

The things that some people are willing to accept.

Legendaires would be, "my level" as I think you mean it. I don't still have many times that I need to unload three or four mags into a mob to kill it on the DPS characters unless it it quite specifically a boss, which we usually use another non-realistic ability called tactical link which dramatically cuts down on the need for so many mags. On the support characters? Sure, but they're not designed to put out damage. The low->high->optimized progression should see that change, it's a completely normal convention for this type of game to have this exact progression. Builds get better, ttk goes down. This has been consistent for my 35 years of gaming. It's where the "loot" comes in from in the loot and shoot.

I just think it's a weird complaint to have about a game's lack of realism in an expressly unreal setting/mechanics set up. The guns all have magical abilities. The armor late in the game has magical abilities. We eat, drink and use consumables to get magical abilities. We, the players have magical abilities (sig skills). The season never changes. The premise is science fiction. Given all that, the complaint is that the npcs don't insta-die from a gun shot to the head? How unbelievably boring would it be to wander around and pop a round into their heads and win? You realize how easy it is to get head shots with just a bit of game time and adjustment for each weapon (assuming you're on PC, we are on [H] after all)?

This isn't so much directed at you as to the everyone that's had this complaint recently. I just don't know what people expect, this is not a one shot game. It'd be awful if that happened.

....... How unbelievably boring would it be to wander around and pop a round into their heads and win? ....

It's not boring at all as long as your enemies can do it back to you, then it becomes immensely scary and fun and remarkably satisfying.

If I'm going to die in the game, I'd much rather it be because I screwed up and should have checked before I ran acrossed the street then agroing a boss that eats all my ammo and eventually forces me to run away or get crushes.

So what this really comes down to is that I like so much of the game but key elements are too detracting for me. It's a problem with my own game tastes, this game just doesn't can't keep me because there are key elements that are not what I enjoy. Combine this with not being able to find anything comparable with mechanics that I enjoy, meaning disappointment and frustration for me.

I'm genuinely curious, what game is that fun in? Not them one shotting you, you one shotting them. I tried wildlands, bored out of my mind. Something besides that please. I'll actually go try it.

I might not be getting you, or maybe you aren't getting me. I want to be at greater risk then my enemies in the game, that's fun. One of me fighting several of them, and we are all equally dangerous when it comes to damage and health. Screw up and you die, you must be better than the mobs.

That wouldn't be fun to you?

And which game is this fun in, I greatly enjoyed Fallout 4 this way. Put the game on Survival Mode and add the Brutality mod, and watch out for introducing mods that unbalance the armor protection for yourself or you'll ruin it for yourself.

P.S. I haven't tried it yet, perhaps Sniper Elite III.

You wrote, "What character Mob in the Division that is approximately the same level as your own can you one shot? What human being in real life can withstand a full clip and not at least go down, even with body armor?"

That doesn't sound fun to me, at all. It's sounds unbelievably boring and way too easy. With or without the caveat of the mobs being able to do the same. I get the appeal of one shots and take downs for some people though, I believe there's a genre for that as well; which the Division was never in.

I'm not really interested in non-cop op games these days so single players games like fallout just aren't my thing any longer. They don't offer enough variation for me to stay interested in the game play but only for the story telling, which is great and generally something I want to progress through without the hassle of worrying about tactical gameplay. The idea of doing loss of character on death is also a non-starter because I'm interested in longer term gaming experiences with character progression along side my groups of friends.

I'll take a look at sniper elite.

This game is an ARPG, hence the bullet sponge enemies. You don't complain when you play some typical sword and sandals arpg and complain about mobs/bosses (even humanoid ones) needing many multiple fireballs or magic missiles to kill. Yes there is a visual disconnect as the game is wearing a 'realistic skin', but the devs were pretty up front and honest about the arpg aspects from day 1 years ago, when the open betas were available for anyone to download and play.

Also, it's worse during the leveling parts of the game when decent loot can be tough to get. Once you hit L30 and start running a 4pc+2c regular set (say for eg. 4pc striker+ 2pc nomad) which is insanely easy to get (regular set pieces drop like candy) - and use some mods or a weapon with some PvE talents like destructive/predatory/ferocious the feel of the game starts to change and won't feel as bullet spongy anymore.

And finally, if you do keep playing enough to get a 6 pc classy set for a gameplay style you enjoy, then the feel of the game improves even more. The character progression in this game exists, and the 'bullet sponginess' does decrease by a huge margin, it just takes some patience to get there.

Didn't make it through all 30+ minutes of today's State of the Game, but the jist was:

  • Increased drop rates for Classifieds / Exotics, along with the possibility of additional sources (chance to buy with Phx Creds I'd guess)
  • Balancing being considered, no buff's / nerfs planned "as of yet"
The rest was a trudge to get through, they really need to stay on topic and get to the point with these things. 30 mins for 60 seconds of solid info is not even funny.

If y'all are after Stamina Mods with 1% CHC, there are some 262's at the "E 34th St DZ Vendor". Cheap, and fill the gap until you can find some 267's (I bought 20). :)

EDIT: Also, 7% Support Station Range at E 31st St.
EDIT#2: E 34th St (or the one above it, cant remember) also had a 285 SASG with Competent, Talented & one that could be rerolled to Determined for those of you with Tech builds, or just want a means to get your Sig back.
EDIT#3: Here, just use this -

For only having put maybe 30 hrs in the game since the GE started, I got a full Tact 6 pc, full Firecrest and about a third of Reclaimer, AlphaBridge & Deadeye. Also picked up The House, Showstopper, Devil, Tenebrae, Hildr & "Demascus". *mockiing snort* Still need almost all of the Striker & Nomad pieces I was hoping for, but I can't complain. Grinding out Div Tech as much as possible.

Did lots of Lexington the first couple days, did a fair amount of Resistance too, but ended up back in the DZ as always. Unless I'm getting Rogued, it seems the place that wears on me the least. DZ07-09 have been a nice addition. Really wish I could explore that Carrier on the Piers though; missed opportunity that. Still, I'm just glad they are still developing this game.

I should really join you. I love going DZ but don't go rogue. Sounds like you do pve in DZ just like me. Most random groups go rogue, with 0 warning beforehand.

I still play the Division almost every night, for an hour at least. I have almost every gear set full classified, only missing a few pieces to complete sets (3 sets only need 1 item). My UPlay username is Spraying_Mango feel free to add me.

Sweet, will do. I'm still "Frraksurred" on Uplay (and about every where else). We did this once before and ended up with 2 full squads, lol. Didn't go as well as we'd hoped, but now that you have to hold down a button to go Rogue it wouldn't be as much of an issue.

Damn, i hadn't checked out this thread in a long time. I'm still playing the game on a regular basis. In fact I just reached 2 Billion credits tonight with Frraksurred. I've been hanging out with him most of the last week trying to get him geared up once again. He still needs a couple Strikers and Nomad pieces. Those 2 are top tier especially in the DZ.

Guys just be aware there's an Alphabridge glitch making the rounds where you can get all talents on a weapon. Yes all weapon talents on a single gun. Hopefully this gets patched this week. Otherwise I'm down for this reunion night.

Well I have Friday and Saturday off this week, so if anything within that time frame works for you guys, let's go ahead and PLAN THIS THING!! :D

Well... didn't see any of you, so pppphhhhtt! Thats okay, jmaker and a few of my other regulars farmed the biscuits out of the DZ. The number of sets that only need one more piece is nearly all of them now. I've completed D3, Firecrest, Tacticians, Final Measure & Sentry I believe. Still trying to round up the last piece for Nomad, Striker & Reclaimer (before they get nerfed). Thought I had Striker finally, but got ganked by a particularly pleased with himself Rogue. Man child of all man children, that one. Hope I run into him again after I'm geared up. I have pent up frustration to expel. :sneaky:

Seems we keep missing each other. Usually i go online just as you're leaving haha. Guess it is the time difference. AND my work requires me to be away for days so, there's that.
Luckily ill be on leave beginning March, hoping to get some good Division done.

I saw you jump on a couple nights ago, as you said, just as I was jumping off. I will have next weekend off and will be able to stay up later. Hopefully we'll at least get an hour together for old time sake. I've usually been on most the day on those occasions, and by that point am shot. I'll try and sneak a nap in, lol.

Any idea on when this will be implemented?

Any idea on when this will be implemented?

They didn't give a date, but they did say not to expect it right away. Soon-ish is all they would elude too, so based on past releases, I'd guess 2-4 weeks.

Also, I forgot to mention we'll be able to buy a new Cache from the Phx Credit Vendor that will drop one Classified item, for 2500 credits. Added to original post.

Only one game I ever played where it was fun. STALKER. I had mods that made the AI deadly accurate and headshots were always 1 shot kill regardless of player or NPC. Unless you were wearing a heavily armored exo suit of course.

Haven't gotten to the State of the Game yet, but from what I gather it was all about the 2 year anniversary, Global Events each weekend for the next 4 weekends (Thurs-Sun) and showing off the 20 million players stats. I have not seen anything in relation to when the drop rate increase will happen. Given the anniversary, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't until April now.

Played quite a bit yesterday. Outbreak is a fun GE, particularly if you up it to "Critical Outbreak". This adds a marking mechanic similar to what Sentry does. You headshot an enemy and they get an orange head icon above their head for a few seconds. This mark shows up as blue to your teammates. If one of them gets a headshot on them while it is still blue, it is an instant kill (nice visual & audio effect also). We had a blast with this. Shotguns were the most effective, but you could do it with pistol if you wanted (Commendation for that actually). Good times! Have a Reclaimer in the group, as the AI will contaminate you if they get close.

I put an obnoxious amount of time into that GE over the last 4 days and enjoyed every minute of it :p

Should be a fun month.

It looks like there are two new Global Events too, Blackout and Onslaught

Nice looking forward to it, even with all its quirks the division held my attention for a few hundred hours which never happens anymore
