Nier Automata $29.99 Steam Sale

There has been no lower price of this game, since release. I think I bought it at 15% off on one of the steam sales just because I heard it was a fantastic single-player game. It is, the only caveat is that you have to enjoy a story, and put in at least, three play-thru's. You really miss out on a ton of content if you don't.

Tempting, but I think I'd rather play it on my PS4 Pro. Looks like I can get it for $38 on Amazon for PS4 right now too.

Did they ever patch it to guys the issues Digital Foundry had with it on PC?

sad that the developer didn't release any official patches (besides the DLC)

If you are really lazy (or bad at the game), this game does allow you to play on nearly completely automatic mode.

You can also change the difficulty at any time, should you feel like playing the game, rather than watching a realtime 3D movie.

Tempting, but you can just tell by looking that this will end up in the $5 bundles before the year is out.

Tell by what specifically? To be fair, if everyone had the same entitled atittude, then games like this wouldn't even exist.

It's one thing to wait for the bargain bin on the bland, annualized, conveyor belt "AAA"'s - the Call of Duty's and the like. But this game is a work of art - worthy of all the praise it's received and easily worth the money.

Work of art - LOL. Outside of the cringey waifu "artwork" you have a good music score and decent story wrapped around a thoroughly mediocre game. It has some of the worst fetch quests in modern gaming history, crap graphics and more. The story is not even half as deep as most players claim. If your only point of reference is Call of Duty, then yes the story is stunning. Otherwise, no. It is okay but not great. Pay what you think it is worth, but don't scold people for not paying full price for this half assed, lazy pile of mediocrity. Talk about entitlement! "Pay what I think this half finished game is worth, otherwise I'll yell at you!".

8.4 Metacritic score
84 from user reviews
Steam All user reviews polling is Very Positive

These motifs probably indicate what most people would consider a decent if not good game, and above mediocrity, albeit... YMMV as in all things.

Call of Duty gets excellent reviews to. Doesn't change the fact that the game is extremely middle of the road when it comes to dozens of things. You can't just ignore quest design, inconsistent quality, half voiced conversations, graphics, lazy collect the resource gameplay and more. Those are all core features this game utterly falls flat on. Essentially, half the game. Semi decent story and BGM can only carry you so far. This game is very similar to Spec Ops The Line in that the game itself is very underwhelming, but the setting/story is decent. Neither are ground breaking in those areas, but they are good enough to keep both games from being complete turds. But both are far from being superb. The only reason Nier gets rave reviews is due to the cringey anime/dork gamer population who love the "waifus" that the game mostly centers around. Anything with cheesy Japanese traits attracts those kinds of people who shower it with undue praise.

I played it on PS4 pro and I thought it was great, think I paid under $40. Well worth it.

Lol. Keep dreaming. SE Japan is very stingy with discounts. For example: No FF game has ever had a discount beyond 50% on Steam.

Could NOT get into this game. Ended up returning it via Steam returns.

I thought the game was pretty awesome while I was playing it, mostly because I kept thinking there was going to be some huge plot payoff at the end. I tend to play games primarily for interesting plot lines and can forgive quite a lot of mediocre gameplay elements if the plot is good. However, after I finished the game and began to discuss it with others, I realized how weak the dystopian science fiction story actually was. Considering that this game is technically just the next installment in a disjointed series that dates back to 2003, that actually makes sense. I still feel like I got my money's worth out of it though, even at $42. Just be warned: if you scratch a little too deep below the surface of the plot, it crumbles.
