Far Cry 5

To me, Far Cry 3 and 4 might as well have been the same game. They were good/fun, but just way too similar. 4 was like a big DLC pack. This one feels closer to a real sequel.
Montana's probably a bland choice for a setting, but it IS probably the most feasible story-wise. It IS mostly empty after all. One of the southwestern states (or Appalachian states) could have also worked and would likely have more varied terrain. The knock is that you'd have to suspend your disbelief a little more.
I think West Virginia or anywhere along the Appalachian could have worked just as well.

I hope the missions are fun gameplay is ok looking but I think they added to much to it just trying to make it good.

That Stream looks really bad all sorts of tearing for frame syncing I cancelled the game just looks way too overwhelming for me it looks good but it doesn't look very fun.

I still think 4 looked better honestly, it had way better wildlife (other then the fucking eagles) and environments that weren't flat.

All the animals in the northern part of Kyrat had their aggression turned to 11.

But yeah, eagles were the biggest assholes, followed by the snow leopards.

Seems like that could be a lot of content. I wonder what it'll cost. Also, after the main game will I even want more? I know after I completed the other ones I was pretty much done for a while.

No hints on how long these will be; some people are speculating Blood Dragon in length, but I find that unlikely.

FC4's Yeti DLC was pretty big but not that big. So I think it's good to wait and see, it's cool they're looking to be creative, and I wonder how much asset re-use they will do.

they get big props from me for creativity with this DLC...really crazy themes...totally reminds me of Blood Dragon...the DLC makes me want to get the game moreso then the base game...

Very impressive indeed.

I'm betting an hour per DLC...then countless hours replaying FC3 to console you for having wasted $30 on another shitty Ubi season pass. The value for money is enormous!

Unless they are like "Blood Dragon." We'll see.

I am so getting this, if for no other reason than for the DLC...but I think the main game in this new setting might be fun too. Gonna wait for <$30...heck I still need to knock out FC4 and Primal. Really enjoyed 1-3, though.

I don't think it's a remaster of FC3...just a free bonus as part of the FC5 DLC
Sorry I extrapolated that it would be a remaster - it's FC3 for XB1 and PS4, so one would hope some improvements are made, but they could just port it, since FC4 was available as a bridging title on current/prev generation consoles.

We're in PC gaming forum, not console gaming right? :/

Unrelated question because google has all sorts of answers that work for me, I constantly get the "Far Cry 4 has Stopped Working" pop up when trying to launch.

I played thru it fully years ago when it first came out (So Im guessing that would have been Windows 7 days?) but was trying to replay it now. Cant launch it. Ive tried stuff like turning off EVGA Precison X and Steam Overlay, and nothing works.

Any suggestions here?

Seems like the FC3 remaster is mostly about the consoles. Maybe they'll toss in some higher resolution textures, but beyond that it's not like you can't play the original one at 4K/60 if you have the hardware to power it.

Try turning off the Win10 DVR overlay and the Nvidia overlay as well.

I caved and pre-ordered. I tried to avoid Primal, but I thought about it so much that I dreamt about it and then bought it and I enjoyed it. Concerning FC5, I'm not going to read reviews or previews and, if someone tells me that Ubisoft went away from capturing areas to gain influence, I'm not going to listen because I can't imagine what they did different at this point, so I should be surprised. While the gameplay has remained the same, they've done a good job at changing up the environment or setting enough to make it fun, also, the games are easy, so it's a fun getaway without getting frustrated.

This has been the case for other games, I think Bulletstorm is one of them. The PC version already got the best assets or access to the best gaphical options, run it at a higher resolution with those options maxed and you've accomplished next-gen console fidelity. Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition was one of those games where I couldn't tell the difference between the original and the re-release.

I'd put my money on FC3 console update including:
1. Slightly higher resolution
2. Better ambient occlusion
3. Better shadows
4. Better draw distance

That is the order of importance. You could have crap textures, but AO makes a huge difference.

First off, have you tried disabling SLI?

Do you have overclocks on your GPU core or memory? For some reason both FC3 and FC4 (Dunia engines) crash whenever I run (high) overclocks. I run EVGA Precision X (ugh I know) and Riva Tuner, but not Steam (I launch through UPlay).

Also, within the game's actual settings, I found disabling the Nvidia Gameworks "features" to be helpful. The fur and tree relief first, then God rays if there are still issues. PCSS I think wasn't known to create issues? It's been a while since I've looked.

Thx! Tried deleting the overclock and of course exiting Precision X. Didnt try disabling SLI because if it wont load anymore with that (it used to, I played thru it originally with to Titan X's in SLI) then Im not interested in replaying it anyway.

Thx tho!

It's a collectors item, so they don't want to damage or get anything dirty, it's kind've like when they do auctions, the dude holding the item wears gloves to keep it "pristine."

If you search for unboxing videos, you see a lot of people wearing gloves.

Cause yea this stuff will be worth so god damn much money in 20 years!

looks like this is an AMD sponsored game...but AMD is not bundling the game with individual GPU's but instead you need to buy a pre-built AMD system to get the free game...

Far Cry 5 is set to use a few Radeon-specific features to entice over a few on-the-fence GeForce gamers to either an AMD Vega or Polaris card:

•Rapid Packed Math – doubles the rate of compute to allow for faster physics and compute calculations on Vega GPUs
•Shader Intrinsics – allows direct game to hardware access on Radeon RX cards to extract more performance from the GPU
•Radeon FreeSync 2 – brings low-latency, high-brightness pixels and a wide colour gamut to High Dynamic Range (HDR) content for PC displays

I thought Ubisoft had a deal with Nvidia?

Hopefully HDR isn't exclusive to Freesync displays. Not that it matters that much, but it can be a nice touch.

As far as the other stuff goes, good for AMD. I'm still typically an Nvidia loyalist, but not so much that I don't want AMD to succeed. Depending on how successful this game is (and how well it performs on their hardware), it could make other developers consider a similar path.

Meh, a 1080 Ti will still destroy everything - especially at 4K - no matter what packed math or other gimmicks they try to lay in.

In past generations this might have mattered but at this point it's like trying to put out a forest fire with a water pistol.
AMD has been on a steep decline since Pascal's launch, with Vega's failure, the recent mining boom, and Volta literally 1 month away from launch. Who exactly is this going to influence?

I will sorely miss some of the GameWorks features, especially TXAA and HairWorks, assuming they're not in FC5 (haven't heard anything yet). It's a shame Ubisoft traded all of that for some Vega-specific features that no one will ever use, compared to Nvidia features which 70-75% of all PC gamers can access. The AMD market is so insignificant at this point I don't even know why they bother trying to appeal to it, just seems like a waste of resources.

The good news is, I can't even think of a single AMD Gaming Evolved title that wasn't well-optimized across the board (including Nvidia GPUs).

isn't Bethesda also partnered with AMD?...so I don't think that AMD's gaming partnerships are irrelevant...any time you can get a big AAA title to be optimized for your cards it is a somewhat big deal...I remember Rise of the Tomb Raider performing better on AMD cards for awhile because of their Async performance...I think Bioshock Infinite also had better AMD performance out of the gate

The partnerships are relevant to AMD's marketing but not to anything else that actually matters (PC gamers). I'm sure the 0.01% of Far Cry 5's playerbase who own Vega GPUs will love it, though *rolleyes* ...

The marketing is irrelevant for now since nobody is buying GPUs for gaming anymore.

Given the fc4 shitshow i'm glad they partnered with amd, my card still BSOD within 10 minutes of turning on literally any of the nvidia exclusive options turn on in that game with my 980.

Wait a second. You're telling me a crazy cult taking over entire counties is more possible in the US compared to an island in the middle of nowhere with no strong central government? Or that the religious vs drug regimes fighting for power doesn't happen in places like Afghanistan or other undeveloped countries? Far Cry 4 was actually somewhat believable. No matter where it happens in the US, you'd have the FBI, ATF, DEA, and whatever other alphabet agencies swarming you within days.

Still can't get warmed up to the theme in FC5, mainly because it seems to be infected with CS:GO/R6S style cosmetic fugliness. I suppose they are going to push the online components hard with this one.

Im not sure why you'd want to actually believe either premise or put that as a +1 priority with respect to a video game.

I dont even Remember FC3 but I loved 4. Of course, I had discovered ahhh.. weed and ohh man playing thru 4 on that..... Some of those drug (while ON drugs) sequences....
WOW

Solid gunplay mechanics in 4 too, cant recall that with 3. Hoping they dont dumb it down too much to make it more console friendly.

I like the videos Ive seen of adding in Ghost Recon-style simple to control (not ARMA) but hopefully still unique feeling (not GTA) airplanes and helicopters.
Think ditching the mini map is probably a good call and forces an older school, actually pay attention to the scenery, method of getting around a map to find spots you like.
Havent seen a lot of the weapon details to see if they are going for 'real world' or if they are worried about calling an AR-15 an AR-15 in this political climate, and just call it "ASSAULT RIFLE".

Pre-bought it regardless
