The title should be 1 volume OR multiple volumes (not sure why I can't edit the thread title).
I just got a Synology ds 1817+.
I have 6 8TB drives, though 1 is currently in use outside the NAS.
Is there an advantage to having multiple volumes? I'd read somewhere that it was useful for quotas (their example dealt with backups and not letting them take over your nas), but I've also read that I can just create a user for a particular task and put a quota limit on it..
Should I just start with less drives and decide later (since I believe I cannot decrease the size of a volume/storage pool once it's created)
Thanks all. This is new territory for me.
