Huawei is releasing an updated version of their MateBook X, which offers a screen with very thin bezels, along with other novelties such as a power button that doubles as a fingerprint sensor. Additionally, it will feature a camera concealed in the keyboard for privacy: it pops up when pressed.

Huawei launched the first MateBook X last year, its first laptop on the market. The MateBook X Pro is an upgraded version of this. The company has been pushing its smartphones aggressively and is now the third-largest smartphone player in the world by market share. But in the PC segment, it is not in the top five. Huawei is now hoping to make a splash in the space.

I have a slide cover for my camera - got it as a giveaway at a conference. I typically have it closed as I don't use the camera. I like the idea of a pop up one.

Huawei makes some really nice devices! They should just go ahead and pay to play so the US government will quit shitting on them. No worse than any other tech company out there data mining.

That’ll save on tape for some people
I don't have the citation handy, but there is a technology that has the cameras built into the panel. You watch it and it watches you. ESPN was recently busted spying on some family with a SmartTV. They claim you agree to it when you buy a TV.

I guess the fine print includes they are able to sell any good videos of you? No, not that bad yet, but being watched by a corporation because they think they are allowed to do it is creepy.

Not really a good move by a company played with spying accusations is it.
You mean to require the user to physically do something so they aren't getting spied on via their webcam, and keep it out of the way when they aren't using it and looking better than a piece of tape? Yeah... sounds like a horrible move to me.

this will give you privacy... because no one will see your face with how low the camera angle is.
People will just see your chest. of way up your nostrils if you're short

The slide cover is great the popup one is stupid. Its one more thing to break. The slide cover would be really easy to replace.

What they wont tell you is the microphone is probably one and sending audio back to them ;)

I like that the camera can be hidden but that placement is terrible.

Is that a camera in your keyboard? Or are you just happy to see me?
Literally LOL'd at this one. Does actually make sense for a camera to at least be concealed when not in use without having to put duct tape over it.

All the people in your Skype meeting will enjoy looking at that pimple under your chin.

Much better than Dell's Nostrilcam 4000. Cleavagecam 8000!!!

Edit... Actually it'd be more like Underboobcam 9000 Mk2.
