So as you might be aware, over the last couple of weeks we have shared Elmnator's streams of him building Project Venus, a fully copper hard-piped cooling system that he was hauling out to PDXLan this weekend. He did post a great shot of the build once it was finished and functioning at the show this weekend. He also just pushed out a quick video tweet as well. Elmy showed off some great skills for sure, in what turned out to be a great looking project.

Check out the build.

I just wonder what the guys in the background are praying for. Maybe they need a little bit of that HardOCP tech support?

I was thinking about doing something like that but instead of using real skills I was just going to use Sharkbites (y)

Lots and lots of Sharkbites

Is it just me that see cooler plumbing with hard tubing like this requiring soldered on joints is a step backwards?

What makes this so special? Personal friend or something? I mean, I guess it's kinda cool...just don't see what stands out vs. other custom cases/builds? Why this has its own news post?

Yeah but those things are super expensive. A few bucks each!
Have you looked at custom cooling fittings lately? :p

PEX would work with Sharkbites too and is flexible enough to reduce the amount of fittings needed

Those pipes need copper fins for extra passive cooling... because why not?
I actually talked to Elmy about that. Would be a great project to do, but of course you are talking about a LOT of resources being put forward to accomplish that. He literally fin-ished up what he had the night before he left. But yeah, I thought the same thing.

If you've ever used copper tubing for water cooling, you know that to make the bends look this good, it ain't eeeezy. Also the custom case thing is challenging on its own.

I think this build kicks ass, but needs more raddage.

Just kidding.

Cause in the span of 2 weeks he hand designed the panels n framing & assembled everything himself ... only damn thing he didnt do was paint the parts. He put time, money & asked for other peaples inputs on his twitch into doing so.

What makes it so special ??? some special bud of kyle's ? LMAOL scuse me while i laugh at a pretty blatent trolling attempt.

doesn't hard pipe have to be replaced more often because of the chemicals in the cooling water or something?

What's the life on this thing?

Yeah, that has been the issue with houses for years now. ;)

I've been pretty stoked to see the finished product after spending a couple hours on his stream checking it out. I can't say that I have it in me to spend two or three hours bending a single pipe... That's some seriously [H] dedication.

Phenomenal end result, the bends look AMAZING! I think I would personally throw an EVGA PowerLink in there to tone down the GPU cables a tad. The Copper GPU block is a nice touch.

Well water can eat up copper more than twice as fast as good water, seen it first hand growing up in the country, and that's water you drink, I have no idea what's in his cooling solution and how that would effect pipes as this isn't something that is done often, hence what I think is a valid question. Obviously it's not going to spring a leak within a year but this guy is more familiar with the topic judging by his skill level alone so I figured I would ask. There has to be some reason case companies don't build cases similar to this or with half the plumbing built in and all you have to do is connect your taps to it off each device, maybe it's longevity, who knows? Not me obviously.
I am just going to put it out there that building a gaming PC and a house, in terms of lifespan are a tiny bit different. That said, we will likely be dead before anyone really gives a shit.

Thats highly dependent on whats in the well water. And as was already pointed out: expected lifespan is an order of magnitude different.

One of the scariest phrases a homeowner can hear: "You need a full copper re-pipe job." ;)

Edit spelling.

Yes but not for reasons of cost ;)

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I really appreciated it.

Nice job. It really turned out nice. Didn't Kyle stream this? And I thought bending tubes, how fun. I've had a couple of jobs. I have thought about steel pipe and Parker fittings. I gone with an industrial look for my PC. Steel tubes would just finish off the look.
