So its been a very long time since I did a full build.

Planning to reuse my EVGA Supernova 750 G2, 970 GTX, WD Black 512GB hdd, and Sound Blaster Z card

Otherwise looking to get all this:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/J2LCmq

I don't think I'm missing anything.

Not fully sold on the fans, looking for decent airflow case fans with lowish noise

Any tricks with installing windows from a USB? Like will only some of the USB ports support booting?

Also holy crap is there a ton of thermal compound out there! lol

Please let me know if I'm being an idiot and missing something. Oh, ignore the power strip backup thing, thats for my Ooma device.

Thanks.

You can pick up a Windows key from the for sale / trade section of the forum for 20 bucks, that would save you $100.

I’m sure the WD ssd is fine, but I’m partial to Samsung myself. I’d get a 960 Evo (M2) or 850/860 Evo (SATA).

Those are just comments though, everything you’ve got listed looks good.

Edit: realized after the fact that you probably included the WD to make PC Part Picker happy, and that you’re probably not planning on picking up a second drive. Feel free to disregard mySSD comments.

Oh no, i have a WD Black hdd, planning on the WD ssd as well. Was going to say that one is too pricey, but that would be the Pro, the Evo looks pretty good, 8 bucks more and better performance on paper.

EDIT: For the windows copy listed, I'll be getting one that comes with a USB stick as that will be needed.

Why not go with the new Ryzen 5 2400G. Its $40 cheaper than the 1600X and the built-in GPU is much better than your 970 GTX.
I've used nothing but Noctua fans for over 10 years. Great airflow and real quiet plus with the new Chromax line you don't have to use the ugly tan color!
Not sure that the Thermaltake cooler you picked out is any better than the one that comes included with the 2400G. If you are going to overclock, I might suggest an AIO water cooler (I've had real good experiences with the Corsairs)
I have had more failures with Corsair memory than any other brand. You can pick-up an equal or better set from G.Skill for less money.

Looking at reviews the 2400G it doesn't seem anywhere near 970 levels of performance.

Never dealt with the AIO coolers, do they come sealed with all the water in them or do I have to add it? Done watercooling in the past but assume air is the more budget friendly.

AIO come pre-filled, they’re as maintenance-free as such a thing can get.

The idea of the APU vs the CPU isn’t that you would use the integrated graphics instead of your 970. It’s nice to have integrated as a backup for instance if your discrete graphics dies, or if when you eventually retire the system you decide to give it to someone who doesn’t need discrete gpu power.

It is not better then a 970.

I just got a Ryzen 5 1600, little voltage bump and it's running happily at 3.I Ghz, would save you $20.

I'm weary about the AIO, I could mount it to the top of the case, but unless I want to mess up the airflow of the case I wouldn't be able to have fresh cool air blowing on it. Also not sure how much better an H60 would be over a good air cooler.

I keep going back and fourth on the AIO.

The 1600x isn't very hot compared to newer Intel CPUs. Personally I would take the thermalright every day over an aio. It's quiet and no worries for yrs

If you're not going to overclock or do multi-gpu, a B350 motherboard will fit the bill.
