Looking for fan recommendations

Over the weekend I migrated my setup (5820k @4.2 and a 1080 ti) to a Mean.it 5pm case from a Rosewill Thor V2. Thermals with the stock fans, even set to high, have been pretty abysmal (gpu hitting low 80s C) on an extended Overwatch session. I plan to do some more debugging such as removing the front panel to see if the fans are just to restricted, but in the event that I want to replace them (and move them to the top of the case), I'm looking for recommendations as I don't follow fans much. Ideally 140mm, 3 pin, and red LED as it was an aesthetic choice to move to this case.

This much hardware may simply be too much for this case, and I could move back to the brute force cooling that the Thor provides, but I'd like to see if I can solve if it is possible.

Took a little digging but I finally found the specs for the fans that were included with your case, which I must say I've never heard of, but looks really nice.

MAX. Speed 1200 +/- 10% RPM
Airflow 29.8 CFM
Static Pressure 0.7mm H2O
Sound Level 20 dBA

Can't go wrong with the Corsair AF series. It's 140mm, 3 pin, red LED, and will smoke the included fans when it comes to performance.

  • Noise (dBA) 25.5 dBA
  • Airflow (CFM) 66.4 CFM
  • Static Pressure (mm/H2O) 0.80 mm/H2O
  • Power Draw (at +12V) .23A, 1200RPM

AF140 specs are 1150rpm, 67.8cfm, 0.84mmH2O, 24dB
PHF140SP are 1200rpm, 82.1cfm, 1.33mmH2O, 19dB

I think it's obvious which has the better performance, and there are many similar fans to PH-F140SP, like PH-F140XP, PH-F140MP and TY-147A SQ. Many are in same price range too.

I have a set of three Corsair ML fans which are the LED type, color red. Only trouble is they require PWM. PM if interested; I won't ask much for them, just looking to give them a good home. =)

pretty much anything will be better than the stock 29cfm. the PHFs are a very good option, the AFs will still be ok. in this use case I would say to go for higher air flow maybe these, they look really good(spec and looks) and can be daisy chained!

BUT that front TG is going to be restricting the aif flow quite a bit... just ask GN.

Well, I ended up ordering 3x PHF140SP, planning on doing some testing (non instrumented) with and without the TG front panel with both the stock fans and the PHF's in place to see how much of a detriment it is.

just love the corsair ML fans thoo... aesthetics and they move a boatload of air. they are very much silent but, moving air makes noise anyway. not sure i got much better results running them full tilt vs around 1400 rpm where they start to make noticable sound past this. now they got the RGB also i got mine when they first came here in norway.

exactly these http://www.corsair.com/en-us/ml140-pro-led-red-140mm-premium-magnetic-levitation-fan

Interested in hearing your thoughts once you get them installed and in use.

Well, remember that the front of this case is a piece of glass, and that the total amount of airflow drawn in from the front will be limited.. If you are trying for a pass threw air flow.. I am not a big fan of these new case designs with the front of the case covered with anything other than a mesh or grill.. restricted air flow, is restricted cooling.. higher temps is something your going to have to live with, just so you case can look cool..

I have not tested Mean:IT 5PM LUM case, but looking at images of 5PM Lum it appears front vent airflow area is similar to front of Phanteks Evolv cases, and I have tested and use the Evolv ATX and Evolv mATX with 2x 140mm front intake fans and they have decent airflow .. so my guess is with good fans airflow will be adequate.
