the blower fan on my msi 1080ti sea hawk squeaks when it spins. i know it's the fan cause if i hold the fan, it will stop squeaking. while off, i can rotate the fan and it will squeak. is there a quick fix for this or is this gonna be an rma back to msi?

anyone know if msi will rma a card for squeaky fan? i feel like the blower fan is about to die soon. it's screaming in pain telling me to help it. :(

just like this... although the one in the video is about 3-4x worse than mine. i have a bad feeling i'm gonna see this eventually.

not WD! use actual proper lube for gears or the sewing machine as suggested. youll have to tear it apart and there should be a sticker on the back. peel it and put a drop of lube on the shaft. let it sit for a while to flow down and then clean up the excess and reapply the sticker.

I have not done it yet. I just ordered the kit. Only blower fan could be used but even that depends if it is the same size or not.

Isn't there a Deoxit formulated for this use?

Blow/clean out any junk, leaves a layer of lube, etcetcetc.

I am going to rip the fan out today and put olive oil on it to see if that fixes things.

A full card waterblock will also typically cure a squeaky shroud fan... just say’in. :D

If it’s not rubbing, then the bearings are shot. If it is rubbing, find out where and do a little creative carving with a hobby blade. If it isn’t rubbing, then forget oil and either replace the fan or the entire shroud.

That's the MSI version of my EVGA hybrid.
We are all happy with ours bc the PCB has been bulked up.

Call MSI and ask if they have any replacement coolers they can send you.
EVGA sells theirs to slap on non-hybrid cards.

If MSI is a giant hassle, now is the time to start shopping for parts to put a loop together.
Start with your GPU, expand it down the road.
Nothing says you can't pull their hybrid setup off and improve the gpu's cooling.

Just replace it. It's on it's way out and it's a couple bucks.

Where can I get this fan for a couple of bucks? I gambled with 40 bucks by ordering a HG10 N970 kit and it is quite possible that fan sizes are different.

well we know it's 120mm diameter, you need to measure the depth. it also runs at 1200rpm.

So I took the shroud and back plate off only to find out that to remove the fan I need to take off the pump and front plate.

So I went with grease and used a tooth pick to apply it on the blades of the fan on the underside (you can only do it with the shroud off).

I wasn’t willing to void warranty so this ended up being a good fix. Thus far, fan is completely silent now.

Just FYI for any one looking for a real fix. I guess the N970 kit will go to waste now.

Actually the above method did not work so I took off everything. Removed the fan and applied grease under the sticker. It has cured it but sometime I am still hearing the squeaking.

Fans either have a single long sleeve bearing (oilite bushing), two sleeve bearings (front, back) or two ball bearings (front, back).
When you peel off the sticker on the hub, you are seeing the back bearing and shaft. The front bearing is further down the shaft on the other side of the stator assembly and usually impossible to oil without taking the whole fan blade assembly off the stator/hub which is usually a PITA due due the little snap clip on the shaft that prevents the shaft from sliding off the hub.
You could take a jeweler's screwdriver and pry out the snap clip, making sure it doesn't ping somewhere like the rug where you will never find it. It's generally made out of clear or colored plastic and looks like a flat washer with a single cut through it to allow it to snap onto the shaft where there is a milled recessed cutout.
Even after doing all of that, however, it will usually still make more noise than it did when it was new, and it will get worse over time again which will annoy you to no end.
This is why I dislike custom design fans - finding a replacement is impossible. But we generally have no choice when buying a product.

Well the N970 fan does fit but you cannot put the shroud back on. My choices were limited as I could not claim warranty on the card. Sending back to USA would cost me 250 bucks. I had already voided warranty with the grease trick so I was left with 3 options.

1) Do nothing and go mad.
2) Do a G10 mod as I had everything with me to do it.
3) Forget the shroud.

Pics tell the story.
