According to Kevin Gammill, program manager for Microsoft's Xbox Platform Partner Group, Xbox One X 1440p support is just around the corner for those in the early preview ring. The weaker S model will also be getting 1440p support, but probably only for video playback.

Supersampling might deliver some impressive visual upgrades on 1080p displays, yet the benefits for those on 1440p monitors are limited. Currently, the Xbox One X downsamples exclusively to 1080p, resulting in a lower than native resolution on 1440p displays.

Cool of them to throw in a feature that will see such limited use.

We can connect even the lower end console to our 1440p monitors, and the UI won't look like garbage from the monitor upscaling the 1080p output.

I don't have an Xbox, but considering it with that subscription service announcement, and the Windows / Xbox cross play stuff.

i'm surprised they are doing this.

How many people actually hook up their consoles to a monitor over a TV?

The 1440p support should come out at the same time as the KB&M support.

They already have Keyboard and Mouse support, but it is up to game makers to decided if they will allow it. Right now I think the only game that allows it is Minecraft.

Didn't know it already came out. Was just saying that a resolution targeting computer monitors and KB&M support seem to go hand-in-hand.

No complaints here - although I no longer use a 1440p monitor (made the transition to 4k) the feature is still appreciated.

One thing that I'd love to see is the ability to stream PC content to the Xbox (if that is possible, please somebody correct me). I know there's already dedicated devices that do this (Steam Link, Nivida Shield, etc) but I don't own one of those. It seems like you can stream Xbox games to a Windows 10 PC, so I can't see it being too much of a stretch to allow it the other way around.

Wish Sony would follow suit, I have a PS4 Pro but no Xbox. And yes I have my console tucked behind a 1440p monitor that I currently play at 1080p.

Parsec is an option, if you have a spare laptop or PC (my sandy bridge Thinkpad does just fine).

I also have a shield tablet, and Parsec prob better for MMO type games, I had some trouble with FF14 on shield for example.

I think you guys are underestimating how many console people are becoming educated about esports. And the same things that we do to get the edge they are doing to. Most gaming monitors are either 1080p or 1440p. On top of that there is a massive amount of overlap with millions of console gamers becoming PC gamers as well. That's a significant interest in 1440p.

Yeah I don't get it either. I sometimes use my PS4 on my 1440 monitor, runs 1080 and looks fine. I'm sure when I move up to 4K monitor, will still be using console on 1080p.

If I want to game at 1440 or 4k, I would use my PC.

Not sure who this update is for.
