Title says it all , I have a 1800 square foot ranch and just got an upgrade to the FIOS Gigabit 940/850 speed. They also shipped me two of their Quantum gateway routers for free , but I was thinking something like a ASUS or Nighthawk. The quantum does a decent job and at times will drop to 35-50% signal strength but can cover the whole house. I would like something better though any recommendations would be great.

I recently upgraded to Gigabit internet as well. How much would you like to spend? Also, do you plan to run a lot of devices at once?

Hey Iron, I am looking at the Nighthawk X-10 Wireless AD-7200 which I can get for $350.00. Um well we all have cell phones on it, a few ipads, all in all about 15 devices. My daughter streams Netflix often and I may watch 4k stuff on the main TV but that's about it. Occasionally I will game on my consoles wirelessly but I know gaming does not take up much in regards to bandwidth.

I'd wrote a long suggestion, but then figured it'd be best to more info.

How many devices are you running total?

How many devices do you generally run concurrently?

How much are you willing to spend?

Do you need coverage outside and for how many feet?

Multiple buildings? (you said ranch...)

How many devices are you running total? maybe 15 , but only streaming on 3-4 simultaneously.

How many devices do you generally run concurrently? phones , ipads, tvs , consoles and all maybe 17 total. Only ever run maybe 4 total on something like YT/Netflix.

How much are you willing to spend? $100-400

Do you need coverage outside and for how many feet? Coverage outside would be maybe 200ft from the house as we like hanging out by the pool in the summer.

Multiple buildings? No , Ranch home in my area just refers to a one story home with basement.

I figure the coverage on from any router 3200+ should be fine, but I just want to make sure I can utilize the full speed.

I doubt they were free. You are proabably leasing them so make sure you sent w/e ones you not going to use so you get $10 a month or w/e back.

I actually use the X6 currently, but my apartment is a good deal smaller, and I have had no issues. That sounds like a great price too! It may be more than you "need", but how often do we usually buy new routers? At the AD7200 level I think there is only one other option, and I prefer Netgear to TP-Link. Good luck!

Thanks , Nah vegeta I called and made sure I was not being charged for anything, said the routers complimentary as I bought one from Verizon when I upgraded to 150/150 a few years ago. That being said I will be hawking my bill for the next few months.

Yeah , I haven't bought a non Verizon router in years. But figure spend the money now as it can be used for years to come and its guaranteed for Gigabit speed internet.

info stuff

So given your situation, I would pick up a 3x3 MIMO capable router and place it in the middle of the basement with the antennas facing up towards the ground floor.

I'd probably flip the wireless on the FIOS router off.

I would recommend something from the top of the list at https://www.smallnetbuilder.com

You won't get full speed, but I'd run 2.4 instead of 5ghz. Things will download faster with 5, but you'll have a lot more latency as 5ghz has pretty poor wall penetration.

I'd run your desktop and whatnot wired back to the FIOS 'modem'

Kwaz thanks, yeah was leaning that way and was thinking of keeping my gaming pc hardwired as well as gaming consoles.

I think either would be sufficient for my families needs at the moment.

I believe that particular one has a modem included which you don't want / need

There's a modem-less version https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0192911RA
