NVIDIA Ampere GPU Rumored for April Launch

Hmmm so maybe I sell my 1070 now at mining prices and run off a crappy GT 1030 in the meantime.... but I don't think I can not game for 4-5 months.

Who wants to buy a lightly used, never mined, GTX 1070 for a cool $1000? Free shipping!

Giving in to miners and letting them ruin PC gaming is taking something we love and letting someone else fuck it.
I equate that to a bunch of cuckolds.

LOL... Bottom line is money talks. You want to game? You have to want it worse than the miners and pay up. Does it suck? Sure, but that's the reality of supply and demand. Maybe it's time to find another hobby.

I'm getting $1,000 back from taxes. I think I'll set it all aside and wait to see what happens. If I can get a solid 40-50% increase at 1440 and 4K over my 1080 for under, or a little over, a grand I'll jump on it.

I might be getting $2k back for taxes, I'll set it aside and see what happens

already have (as far as PC gaming is concerned). Google is looking at consoles ...

The dollar in your wallet is just as powerful as the dollar in mine. Pick up an economics book if you want to understand what's going on. At the end of the day they are a for profit corporation designed to make money.

Even if you are some broke dick college student 5 minutes worth of math would help you understand that even with the high prices you could buy X card, mine for 30/60/90 days then call it quits and have your awesome gaming GPU at a deep discount, for a net price of below MSRP and go on your merry gaming way. But why exert any effort to understand the market when you can just hop online and bitch and complain about something you don't understand.

You want a luxury good, but don't want to pay the market price. Imagine you are selling a Ferrari and there's a line of people around the block willing to pay you a very high asking price. Then I show up and whine and complain and say I only have $500 but really really really love Ferrari's, would you sell it to me?

Stop waiting for everyone else to fix your problem for you, there are perfectly workable solutions out there to get what you want.

People- there's a demand for these things. Nothing is going to stop miners from buying them.

The only way to get prices down is to increase production. Let's just hope that the reason for the current low stock is because production has been switched to newer parts.

And that’s fine too, although who knows if Mvidia wants to really do that. It’s hurting gaming though, I’ll tell you that, miners don’t generally game so devs will get less and move more toward micro transactions. Also puts us behind the either ball because we don’t quite care as much and when you stop being so passionate about a hobby it usually falls to the wayside for something else. I don’t tend to pick it back up again, at least nowhere near as hardcore. I hope they are discussing things like that at amd/nvidia.

wat??? I am a miner and I game - hell with all the graphics cards to choose from why not game? Not that I really have that many. I am sure most here that mine also game and some probably game a lot as well. Mining farm guys? besides counting all their money everyday, probably game as well - what else are they going to do?

Or lower standards and console game. I’ll be honest my lazy ass has been semi exclusive to the PS4. Haven’t games on PC in about 2 years. (My poor neglected AMD 290)

You aren’t wrong, but what you are proposing is similar to mail in rebates. Manufactures know that most consumers won’t follow through with a MIR, if everyone did they’d likely stop offering them. Setting up mining is more or less the same amount of work and likely more time waiting on the ROI.

It’s a shit way of trying to justify the prices.

Your car analogy is ass backwards. Just straight up ass backwards from the word go.

A Ferrari is a premium expensive product. Offering a pittance is a laughing stock. Especially to the sort that so buy them. Ferrari is the Titan of GPUs. (Hell Ferrari is Quad Titans) no one here is going to go “ooo a quad titan 6c/12 Intel PC I’ll give you $1000 for it” this isn’t fucking Pawn Stars.

To fix your fucking retarded analogy (seriously, feel bad, because you should) a stock 1070 is a V6 Mustang, 1080 V8 Mustang, 1080Ti Mustang GT and Titan Ford GT. You know your budget as a lowly pleb and settle on paying the $25k for a basic Mustang (1070).
Well, they've been selling like hot cakes lately. They’re not in short supply or impossible to get but so many people want one, the dealer tells you that to get one the price is equal to the Mustang GT. So you figure we’ll fuck I guess I’ll just buy the GT model instead....well the GT model Mustang costs almost as much as a new Ford GT.

Once again. Feel bad. No one is bitching in the manner of going to buy a ferrari equivalent GPU and offering Ford Focus type cash.

Right? The honorable mention (blower) card is always out of the gate first, but I just cannot accept less than two fans on religious grounds.

If Titan V is any indication then 2070/2080 blower cards are practically assured.

I agree with you. Blower style card blows. Tends to being whiny when OC'd to the extreme. That's the only reason I didn't opt for the Titan Xp in these bubbly gpu days.

Blower cards are great for smaller form factor builds or any case where space is a bit tight. Great for waterblocks too, since those stock PCBs get the best support.

If this does come out in the middle of this year, AMD is in trouble on the gaming side. Vega is already a non-competitor and they're supposedly not coming out with another card until next year sometime.

Vega 20 still might appear somewhere, but if the rumors of AMD ceasing production of 56 and 64 to focus on Frontier are true then I have serious doubts about seeing 20. Doesn't help that there haven't even been vague rumors of it since around September-October of last year.

Yeah I would expect at most some kind of bumped clock version akin to the 7970 ghz edition which at the time didn't do much either.

I hope governments come down on cryptocurrency like the Hand of God soon, for the sake of GPU pricing/availability and also mining malware.

Or some enterptising chip designer/manufacturer could manufacture a dedicated mining chip that is cheaper and more efficient than GPU's. That would fix the GPU shortage problem. The miners would all be selling their GPU's and the market would be flooded. Good for gamers ;);)

There's more going on right now than miners. Look at this rumor, if its true then GP102 chips aren't going out anymore. There is a rumor that AMD has ceased producing Vega 56 and Vega 64 in order to focus on Frontier. Then add in the ever growing memory shortages. Oh and lets net forget the scalpers taking advantage of both miners and impatient gamers. Without miners the prices might not be jacked as high but there would still probably be supply issues.

Arbitrarily limiting their GPU's is something I could see them doing if their CEO was nine years old.
You think??? I would say this would be very nVidia to gimp consumer cards, then offer the full fat version for double or triple the price for miners.

Remember that wannabe Captain Kirk can do crazy shit when he’s got the leather on.

I like mining. I play on my 980ti system every day, and it makes me a few dollars per day mining while I'm at work. I'd never go full GPU rig on principle, but I'd be silly not to have it mining while I'm not using it. My gaming PC is paying for itself.

If you have a gaming rig sitting around not mining in your spare time, I ask you why not? Do you not like free gaming rigs? Do you hate mining so much you don't want to make money on principle?

Nope, I just live in Australia and my electricity is 30 cents a kwh

Truth be told, every guide I've read has been shit, so I've said "Fuck it"

Here is an easy guide for you:

1.) create an account at nicehash
2.) download nicehash miner
3.) copy and paste your wallet address into nicehash miner
4.) press start

With nvidia cards, its that easy. With all that said, the big time profits are over. My 1080ti is only making $3 a day, but i am not doing it for the $3. I am doing it for the speculation then next xmas Bitcoin will hit another all time high. If i get $3 of bitcoin today and hold it until then. $3 a day becomes $15-20 and thats tangible

Nicehash was "hacked" just a few months ago. I don't trust them

This 20xx naming for the next gen cards is bullshit, full stop. It sorta made sense going from GeForce 4 to 5xxx (FX) and from 9x00 to 2xx, but what the holy fuck, we're gonna just jump from 100 increment upgrades to 1000. This is far dumber than the whole Xbox/360/One fiasco. Call the damn thing an 11xx and we won't have to deal with 'hurr durr do you mean the 5xxx series from 2003, or the 5xxx series from 2025...'

You have far to much time on your hands. Also, how many people who by something in 2025 named 5010TI is going to even remember a video card for 2003? No one, that is who. Also, how the heck is the naming of the XBox a fiasco? Like I said, to much time....... If you name something an 1180 Ti, most folks are going to think it is just an upgraded 1080 TI anyways.

Don't trust anything in crypto...

That said - I use nicehash more than dedicated mining because they are more profitable.

I mined with Nicehash for nearly 6 months. I lost one week's worth of BTC because they were hacked, but I was mining all mine to a external wallet which deposited weekly. (ALWAYS MINE TO AN EXTERNAL WALLET - PREFERABLY YOUR OWN THAT YOU CONTROL THE PRIVATE KEYS) Still easily made more than other mining options, even losing that week.

Nicehash has started paying everyone back - 10% so far, but I'll assume the rest will follow, and if it doesn't...still made about 1BTC from nicehash alone. (compared to losing .035 BTC in the hack)

Right now I'm mining zcash and converting to BCH - so I can buy the next antminer S9 replacement from Bitmain - on mining profits alone (hopefully) -- meaning I paid about 1/10 the USD amount of the new antminer (just in electricity). Thus risk is very low.

You say i have too much time, yet you choose to refute my opinion point by point. So first if nobody will remember video cards from 22 years prior then why are so many people asking for 3DFX Voodo cards in B/S/T? Then you go and disprove your own point by saying if it was called an 1180ti people would thing it was an upgraded 1080ti, here's at tip... IT IS. Every generation builds on the last.

No dude, just an upgraded 1080 to, not a new card. So no, a 2080 ti would be a new card, not an upgraded 1080 ti.

Yep, that 22 year old will pine after a card built in the 90's, right.

This is true, however they have some sort of arrangement with Coinbase to transfer funds to your Coinbase account for no fees.

Once your funds are in Coinbase you can transfer to Gdax and cash out.

Exactly! It's simple supply and demand. The only reason the price went sky high, was because miners bought up all the supply. When a product is rare or hard to get, the price goes up. If nVidia were to ramp up supply to meet or exceed the demand, then prices would go back down, while nVidia got rich.

I wonder if I can get one by just asking... for ummm research purposes... hmm find out in March.

If Nvidia wants to get a cut of this crypto fun, they should create a licence model for miners. They are already doing this kind of bullshit in the shared vGPU world with Grid 2.0. Might as well fuck more people in the name of profit.

I hope it mines good! I would like more!

I mean, it would be nice to upgrade my gamer pc....... ;)

I am utterly flattened by this comment. You can't even write a batch file or configure a miner software in 3 steps? Did you graduate Kindygarten?

While you were being dense as a block of wood, I made six figures and about $ 8,000 per hour of work so far! LOL Keep it up numbnuts! I am getting fat rich! LOL

Do you feel better?

You are absolutely right. Now that I've had time to time to reflect and pray for clarity, I can see the error of my ways.

Thank You

Nvidia the girl never leaves you unless the Crypto Kids get them all.

Nvidia got rightly curbstomped in the headlines by Kyle among others for that, so they likely won't run that play again.

They didn't lose any money from it and their competition is basically MIA, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them do it again.

Or buy a PS4 Pro
