Due to an unfastened screw that can damage the lithium-ion battery and result in fires, Lenovo is recalling their fifth-generation ThinkPad X1 Carbon laptops. Inspections and repairs will be free; a support page is available to help owners confirm whether their units are affected.

So far, Lenovo hasn't received any reports of the faulty X1 Carbons hurting anyone. However, the vendor is still suggesting that affected laptop owners immediately stop using the product. Lithium-ion batteries are known to easily catch fire or even explode whenever punctured.

I like lenovo. They address problems before they have consequences. And they address issues on machines despite being out of warranty.

well there is the crapware they install that basically mimics everything already built into windows but slows down the machine drastically.

I worked on a bunch of donated ThinkPad X1 Carbon a few weeks ago. I really did not like the gen 2. There was no fifth-generation that is being recalled.

Yea the Gen 2's were horrible. They promptly undid all of the stupid stuff they implemented on the Gen 2 Carbons when they released the Gen 3. I haven't had my hands on anything after gen 3 due to in-house switching to HP(less than thrilled) but from what I've seen, they've been pretty solid.

Somebody at Apple apparently loved the Gen 2. The current Macbook Pros blatantly rip off the adapative touchbar that Thinkpad users hated so much.

I've done a ton of these recalls already and so far while a lot of them the screws need 1/4 to 1/2 turn none have been completely out of place and no batteries have been damaged.
