It won’t be available in the US until next year, but Japanese scientists have developed a drug that can kill the influenza virus in 24 hours. The compound works by blocking the flu from hijacking other cells in the body.

It also only requires a single dose, while Tamiflu requires two doses a day, for five days. Both drugs take roughly the same amount of time to completely contain flu symptoms, but researches said the experimental compound provides instant relief to patients.

Yeah, or people stop dying of it... ~2500 deaths due to flu related symptoms just in North Texas alone in the last 4 months, from body builders to 12 year olds who tested negative, but who actually had it.

Zombies, the creation of time travelers to go back and stop it so we can keep reproducing, all other horrific sciffy stories notwithstanding, this could save soooo many lives.... Now if they release that cure to a bunch of types of cancer they have found will all of these sciffy stories come true...

Side effects may include, death, resurrection as a brain-eating zombie, your dick might fall off, chance of butt monkeys (50/50 monkeys or gorillas), random changes in gender preference, possible infestation by 3rd+ wave rad-fem feminism, increased chances of "Truck of Peace" in your vicinity, and in general, taxes, fees, and services will all triple in price (at minimum)....

Always thought a "side effect" of death in a medicine was a bit odd. That's more like a full on effect, not an ancillary side effect!

Medicine will kill us all!

If only there were a way to leverage our purchasing power to negotiate lower prices...

But but... That's "marxist socialist communist acorn globalist pizza gate thinking, if you want these programs and higher taxes, go move to Cuba or Venezuela where Che Guevara lives" - Typical bootlicker that enjoys the table scraps that "trickle down"

Typically what happens in healthy people is a Cytokine Storm, your body over produces immune cells "EVERYONE" and ends up nuking your system, damaging organs and such.

Also, people need to STAY HOME if you think you have the Flu. I had to take my fiance to the Hospital for a head injury and it was like walking into an Ebola ward. You don't go to the ER if you have the Flu if its not severe! All it does is tie up the staff & spread the virus to people that don't have it.

Unfortunately this more due to the shitty work culture we have here in the US where people are expected to go into work unless they have a letter from their doctor. Most hourly workers don't have the luxury of sick days, and even if they do it's typically not enough per year and/or management will penalize you for using one.

It's why i'm glad I work for myself now. Being a worker sucks in the US for the average person.

Note from the doctor! Pfft!.. Last several years for me and my wife things changed.. no longer 'justified call outs' ... sickness... that is not an excuse, you get x amount of call out in x amount of rolling back time, and that's it, reasons don't matter. So you are better working sick if you can, you don't want to blow those spots and then get real can't even work sick. Yes, its a terrible idea overall.

Anything to make people's lives better. I took tamiflu two years ago. On the 2nd day, I had a combination of hallucinations and sleep deprivations. Looking at pictures on the wall gave me a new understanding of 3d visuals of epic coloring of solids turning into motion liquid. I have respect for the FLU, it nearly killed me. I thank the Lord for sparing my life and answering my prayers.

I'd be on this in a heartbeat. I've had the true flu only 3 times in my life and vividly recall each experience. People get a bad cold and say they have the flu...they have no idea. The actual flu will absolutely whip your ass, I lost 12 lbs in 2015 over 7 days with that shit. It's basically 5 days of fever hell, a week of finally being able to get up and walk around and then another 2 weeks to get your lungs reasonably back in shape. Fuck that, give me the meds.

Waiting for the drug safety insert:

*Do not take experimental pill if you are allergic to experimental pill
**experimental pill may cause a neuropsychiatric event that may lead to suicide.

Took mom in for a fall, 12 days later in for pneumonia developing from the flu. While we're waiting for mom, everyone else had a mask on in the waiting room.

Which influenza strain does it kill though? As we know, the virus mutates yearly (sometimes twice a year).
The more immediately lethal they less likely it will be evolved around. OTOH, tamiflu at twice a day for 5 days would be prone to someone missing often or stopping early in which case this gives the flu a chance to evolve around it. Imho, only people who are in immediate risk of severe complications should get tamiflu.

The worry is whatever it doesn't kill may end up mutating into something far more virulent.

Lifes ability to continue to survive despite the odds is astounding. The fact that the flu is killing healthy people now should be a huge warning that something seriously bad may be on the horizon.

Another proven method of avoiding the flu virus is to wear a hazmat suit and shoot anyone who gets within 10 yards of you in the face. Tell the jury it was self defense...against the flu! Case dismissed!

Be wary of any drug claiming to kill a virus, you must have a decent immune system to begin with. Most people that die by the hands of the influenza virus are immunocompromised to some extent already. Healthy individuals can beat influenza quite easily. It just takes a week on average to generate the particular antibody necessary to attach and mark the viral material for removal. This is after tens of millions of random combinations of antibodies have been generated until the one that works is discovered.

If anything a drug like this can just shorten the peak viral load from scaling so high thereby reducing overall systemic cellular damage resulting in quicker recover and feeling better for the infected. Hope you dont have aids before you get the flu. GOod luck!

Holy f is that number correct? In a first world country?

People flipped out when 6 people die from avian flu.
