That’s just one finding from Match.com’s latest Singles in America study, which offers insight on how singles react to phone usage. While Android users seem pretty judgmental, iPhone owners are even more critical, being 21 times more likely to think the same. Additionally, women are 92% more likely to judge their date for having an older phone model.

Three quarters of singles said they would be turned off if their date answered the phone without any explanation, while 66% said it was off-putting if they texted. Singles weren't totally against technology advances in dating, though. According to the survey, one in four people would have sex with a robot if they were given the chance.

I waited until the third date with my new gf to inform her ahead of time that I do occasionally play Pokemon Go and I wanted to check if the place we were eating at had a PokeStop. She was ok with it. I think. We're still dating so... ^^. I do set my phone to Do Not Disturb when I'm out with her and otherwise don't really do anything with it.

She's an Android owner, and after the last gf who was an avid iPhone user, I'm adjusting to not having FaceTime nor read receipts for messages.

am i missing a sarc tag? read receipts have never been acceptable to me in any decade or century now that i think about it (looking at you outlook/exchange). seriously, it just feels like a total asshole thing to me. or creeper
Well, in iMessage they can be turned off. Which use to force a mutual exchange of receipts. If you had them set to off you would not receive any.

At some point Apple changed that and now even though mine are off I still get know when my mom and sister have read messages. It’s hardly a thing I care about though. (I did prefer the previous method though of only getting them if you were willing to send though.

WhatsApp is worse though, tells you when someone was last online. I believe you can switch it to just appearing offline but I’m not sure. Same with their read receipts. Only time I think the receipts are truly appropriate could be in a business application where it’s nice to have confirmation someone has seen a possibly important message.

As an asshole or creeper thing, that’s depends on how someone decides to use the feature.

The world's come to this now? People actually care what phone someone else uses?
iphone usage/preference when combined with other factors, tells a lot about a person.

"Computer/Technical job" people were weighted much higher into being android users. For this forum in particular, that speaks volumes.

That said, its basically android (many devices) or ios (few devices), so there is no surprise that android has a lead; whether or not you think they're better (but they are overall, of course).

iphones were once status symbols but that is slowly waning. iphones were once the "it just works" phone, but that is also waning. Currently being a daily user of both (work iphone, personal android); its very clear that the single-minded approach to ios functionality that was once important to that "it just works" mentality is now a crutch. People aren't new to mobile phones anymore. Everyone uses them. And everyone has preferences. Android will continue to eat away at apple's lead as long as they refuse to modernize to their customers.

For one example. Take the LED notification you can set in android. It allows you to set your tiny little led to blink when you have a message, missed call, voicemail, whatever. You can choose the color, what activates it, etc etc. different options on different phones but its a core "feature" of android. iPhone? Nothing. No functionality at all. You have no idea of knowing whether you have a text or whatever unless you pick up the phone and check. You must then ask, is it a conscious decision? I argue yes. Why? To sell Apple watches, which do give you that functionality (plus a little more).

tldr: status symbol gone stale, an iPhone to me is like a late 90's gas guzzler caddilac. It had its short period of pride but now its a joke.

It's handy, particularly when my hands are full or I'm driving or something. I would like the other person to be aware that I got their text about remembering to bring the Dragonball with me, without having to reply to it. So like in my car it pops up on the center console screen, triggers the read receipt, I just keep going.

Nothing creepy about it. It's very practical and omits having to "ok" things. My Apple Watch has me spoiled since I can acknowledge reading something with a single arm motion. buzz buzz, look at Watch, they know I saw it, I keep going.

I see that in my job. Much higher iPhone usage among marketing and sales, much higher Android usage among the developers. engineers, consultants and IT.

And this is Apples biggest problem. That's also one of the big reasons the iPhone X didn't sell as well as projected.

Hard to sell over-priced phones without that status symbol thing going for them.

I see most people at work only replacing their phones when they start having problems (or they damage) their old phone. The iPhone users almost always get another iPhone because that is what they are used to, and they have the store transfer all their photos & contacts over to the new phone since they don't know how to do it themselves.

It just means that I care about security. iPhones get guaranteed software updates for a minimum of four years and you get the update the same day everyone else across the world gets the update. Meanwhile in the Android camp you barely get any from your OEM of choice be it Samsung, HTC, or LG and even when they do the updates have to be vetted by your carrier of choice and that can take forever and a God damned day to make it to your device. The Android update system is akin to having to beg Dell, HP, or Lenovo to give the update that Microsoft released six months ago and instead of getting the update they tell you that your computer is too old and that you need to buy a new one.

I see that in my job. Much higher iPhone usage among marketing and sales, much higher Android usage among the developers. engineers, consultants and IT.

Mine is actually the opposite. More than 75% of IT has iPhones, and just about anyone outside of IT does as well. When everyone first had smartphones, just about everyone received an android. The majority jumped ship after being scarred from running early Android. (Froyo or older)

Hey phones are $500-$1000 items nowadays! People judge others based on the clothes and the shoes they wear, so why not phones? But these kinds of rules apply mostly to us common folks. If you're a hot piece of sexy meat, you'll probably get a pass using a 1990s flip phone

lol I love women that do this.

I show them how much of a novice they are and that using an IPhone and facebook/instagram does not equal someone that is tech savy and they shut up real quick.

Never heard a girl caring about phone age because of Tech savviness, it's normally around dolla dolla bills yall!

No sure i get this? You mean a RR like sent automatically or something? Is that bad for you as in you don't want people to know you read the message? Something like that? Yes i will take a choice in the software to turn on/ off but.. Honestly if your friends can't take that you read their message and you just don't give a fuck, consider those that can closer friends maybe? I know family we can't choose soo..

So on the robot thing... Did they further breakdown the division or problems between the Android/iOS version?

I mean if we look at today’s current trends your robot will either...

Slow down due to “battery gate” or not work since “you are not holding it right”.

Or on the android side it might overheat and burn you due to crypto mining virus.

Bad jokes aside s/he isn’t worth dating if the type of phone calls your character into question.

Two weeks ago I was still on an S5.

Today I'm on an LG V20. Yes, you read that right. Twenty. Not thirty.

Why? Because I choose phones based on whether or not I like them enough to switch to them from what I'm currently using.

People who are going to determine things about me based on what kind of phone I have, are people I probably don't want to associate myself with in the first place.

inquiring minds wants to know about your San Francisco based gluten free froyo startup communal colony.

Personally, if I sat down with any one of you fine people, I wouldn't know what year phone you have unless you told me.

Good thing I'm already married, because from the sound of it I might have trouble dating with my prepaid flip phone.

Not sure if that is sarcasm or serious.

"People with an Android phone were 15 times more likely to judge someone negatively for having an iPhone, and Apple users were 21 times more likely to think the same about Android users."

I'm too stupid to get this. More likely compared to what? Isn't it just that it's 1.4 times more likely that iPhone users would negatively judge Android ones than vice versa?

Use what you like best. It’s that simple. Screw what other people think.

Now where my sex robot at?

*Shrug* And both are 100 times more likely to judge negatively a Windows Mobile Phone user, get over it.

The world's come to this now? People actually care what phone someone else uses?

Yes. People really judge other people by what they use. I don't give two shits if someone uses a Blackberry. I hate Blackberry and hated using one for work. But, if it works for you and you like it, GREAT! It does not impact me one bit at all.

People are too judgy all around.... I do it, too.

And I am still rocking my LG G2 since 2015 (I got it used from a friend). I give exactly 0 fucks what phone someone has, as long as they can actualy afford to buy their phone. People rocking a $1k phone but are on food stamps have problems. I have no reason to upgrade yet as the LG G2 still does everything I need it to do.

100% of IT has Android since I'm the only IT person :D

The other tech staff, developers, sales engineers, support personal, it's about a 70/30 split in favor of android.
In management, and sales it's a 50/50 split.
As for marketing, around 75/25 in favor of the iPhone.

Right, or you can be a guy like me who uses an iPhone primarily because it’s what my company provides and I don’t really care otherwise. It’s a phone, it’s not a religion.

The LED thing is nothing earth shattering. Blackberry had it for years, haven’t missed it.

This just shows how short sited and economically ignorant many people are.
Someone who is flashing a $1,000 iPhone X, could mean they have a lot of money, or it could be they are broke and bought one on credit just to impress the ladies. :cautious:
Someone with a lot a flashy/expensive stuff tells you nothing about have much money they really have, in fact it's usually the opposite.

The type of people with money in the bank are the unassuming couple in the modest house driving older middle type class cars.
They have money because they save instead of spending it on shinny stuff. They pay cash, or pay their credit cards in full every month.

I work with someone who drives a leased BMW and has a iPhone, and they are constantly worried about having enough money to fill their gas tank at the end of the month.
And they currently live with their parents because they can't afford rent.

I drive a 5 year old Camry, use a 2 year old Note 4, own a nice home and enough cash to buy a new car if I needed one.

While they will be leasing a new BMW every 2-3 years, and always have lease payments, I'll be driving my Camry for at least another 5-6 years and have no car payments.

Who do you think will have more money in the bank in 5 years, or will actually be able to retire comfortably at a reasonable age?

I admire your work and self control to save. Rich people are the ones who squeeze every dollar.

It's hard to make good money, and many times harder to save most of it :D

That's why there's that old saying about "wealth only lasting 3 generations".

And it's also why 70% (or more) of folks who win the lottery go broke after a few years.

Some of the "established families" in America have ironclad trusts for that reason -- to make sure that spendthrift "heirs/heiresses" don't deplete the family funds.

I'm so glad I'm not in the dating scene anymore. A guy I worked with - maybe 15 years ago? His tactic was to make sure his dates saw the Platinum/Gold credit cards he had. He also owned (actually, leased...) expensive cars. Hate to say it, but he always had a lot of dates and seemed to do just fine with the crowd he hung out with.
Last time I was dating, I could maybe whip out my Motorola Razer. Actually, that was a pretty cool phone. No fucking apps. Just a phone. I digress...
