Gaming on AMD's Ryzen 5 2500U APU

CPUz should indicate if your dual channel or not. If the ram configures 12gb and is available anything over 8gb would be single channel. Now I would not be too surprise if you see 12bg but only 8gb usable but that should not be the case.

I wanted one of these really bad, but they are $700ish at the time. I got an HP omen i7-7700hq with RX580 for $949, i use it as a mobile VR setup to show friends and family.

Here's what I learned from upgrading the ram and SSD.

1. Get a pry tool kit. I got one off Amazon for 8 bucks. It is almost impossible without.

2. Be very careful removing the rubber pad from the bottom of the laptop. It tears super easy.

3. Do not pry over the ports, there's thin metal there and it will bend.

4. You need a screw for the pcie m2 ssd. I didn't have one that fit so I stole one from them motherboard. Oops. I should of waited and got one from the hardware store.

On #4 I ran into the same surprise.
I borrowed a screw from a previous build and was lucky it fit, however it was not wide enough in the head.

So I was impatient and made a makeshift washer out of electrical tape to keep it in place. Worked well enough!

So cpuz shows 12gb and dual channel. In task manager it shows the 12 gigs but says 8gb available. What's this mean?

I would like to say that 4gb goes to the video, but all I've heard is the gpu only uses 256mb of ddr4 at this moment.

1) Navigate in your browser to https://parts.hp.com/
2) Search for "933265-001" in the search window

933265-001 In stock
ASSY, RUBBER FOOT DAS
RoHS: COMPLY_2.06 = $21.00

3) Click on the hyperlink for the result of that search.
4) Verify that your particular model is represented in that list of models (I believe it will be HP ENVY X360 15Z-BQ100 TOUCH LAPTOP).
5) Add to Cart and do the rest of the standard order thing.

You may find a replacement part for less from another vendor, but I just went with the official OEM parts site for HP.
Also, you may find a HP Service Manual helpful. Here is the link for the one associated to the Ryzen 2500U laptop they sell.

Anyone have a clue on when Acer and Lenovo are launching their laptops ?

The latest 18.1.1 RX vega driver works well on the 2500U. You have to manually force it to install via device manager though. The official driver is something like 4 months old.
