Final Fantasy 15 releases next month, and it's being announced that the Windows Store version will have cross-platform co-op with the Xbox One. Steam users aren't so lucky, as the Windows Store version is the only one that will support cross-platform.

I like the idea of cross-platform play, and am looking forward to more and more games supporting it. Although based on the demo/benchmark, I have little interest in FF 15. DSOG also states that the main storyline will likely not be co-op, but the DLC's should be.

The PC version of Final Fantasy XV will feature all the DLCs that were released for consoles. The third DLC, called Comrades, focuses on co-op multiplayer in which teams take on missions to hold back the darkness and the monsters that lurk within it. As such, this DLC will most likely support cross-play between Xbox One and PC.

there is one co-op dlc called comrades that allows you to switch characters and allow your friends to play the other 3 besides that your sol

I think there's some suspicion that in their continuing support of the game, SE may be working toward making the campaign co-op.

If they do, I'll re-buy on PC.

Don't know more than one person that owns a xbox, I think I'll be fine without :)

I wouldn't be surprised. Might actually be pretty fun when tackling some of the bigger enemies or bigger mobs.

FFXIV is cross-platform (Windows, OSX, PS3[before it was killed], PS4), too, and no stupid restrictions on which store you got it from.

Oh, only between XB1 and PC? Bleh. I have it on PS4, when I can play that with Steam users let me know.

That's really cool! Except for the Windows store restriction shit. That seems anti trust

to bad I cant install anything from the windows store on my main gaming PC lol, tried all the troubleshooting steps and im now left with completely reinstalling windows if I want it to work but the only game I have is cuphead anyways so I just play it on my xbox. If only the Microsoft store wasnt such junk.

How so? Games have always had different features on different platforms, and since the Microsoft Store has the Xbox stuff baked in, it makes sense to include cross play.

It's not that cross-play is available to those that use Windows Store, it's that on a desktop computer it is ONLY available to those that use the Windows Store, which is the point the article is trying to make. Other ways to get the same game, on the same operating system, does not appear to have cross-play. Which may be construed as anit-competitive/anti-trust.

Games sold on STEAM have never been locked into only-STEAM features, or only sellable on STEAM. This is distinct from what MS+UWP is trying to do. Microsoft, yet again, is doing their best for vendor lock-in.

Why should users who buy the game through STEAM not be allowed to do cross-platform play?

My point was the Xbox stuff is baked in to the Microsoft Store, so it could be that they just turned it on because the features were already there. Microsoft has already allowed Steam Games to work with Xbox Games, like Rocket League, Rise of Nations and others, and they said they wouldn't block it, so I doubt this is Microsoft's restriction, but more that Square didn't want to write cross play code between Steam and Xbox themselves. I am willing to bet that Square is just using the platform tools, so Microsoft Store people will probably only be able to play with Microsoft Store/Xbox players and Steam players will only be able to play with Steam players.
