Seems crypto is dropping and gpu prices a trending downwards agian.

Crypto can suck a fat dick. So stupid. Get the fuck away from my video cards, you leeches.
Pay the price to play or go home. I am not sure why it is just the miners driving up the prices for video cards - - Gamers are sucking them up as well - - The shortage is the cause for higher prices. Miners could say, "Those gamers are sucking up all my mining cards"! A GPU is just not a gaming device anymore but more a compute device. I do agree though it sucks having high price video cards, kinda wrecks my plans for a 6 card mining rig - ;)

You're delusional. Can you recall a time (when mining wasn't a thing) when literally every gaming card is either sold out or selling for well above MSRP from both AMD and NVidia? I've been gaming since the days of 3dfx and I don't recall such a time. So you're either delusional or you're not, and if you're not, you'll be able to point me to such a time.

^^^Bullshit so much so that I used the brown colored text. You haven't been in the GPU game long have you? How about you pay the price and I sit on my ass and wait for the price to come down? Sounds good to me. I can hold my breath for a looooong loooong time! :)

And Im glad you're feeling the heat too. Maybe it'll tie you up for another 12.

Yeah - to heck with those guys! They stink so hard!

...I just need another 12 RX580's, you know, for my gaming rig.

Cards priced even over MSRP are still selling out in minutes. Where are you seeing the prices trending downwards?

Card prices and availability will not change for a very long time. At best, probably at least a year. Bitcoin is the only crypto that isn't doing great and nobody mines it with GPUs. Altcoins still use GPUs and they are doing just fine. Even if they completely tank, there will be droves of people left who look at that as an opportunity to get in while the price and difficulty is low.

I honestly think that unless someone comes up with something that does better than gaming GPUs for alt coin mining like ASICs did for Bitcoin, we won't see any changes, period. Don't expect any changes from Nvidia and AMD either, they are having record breaking years. They can't produce enough stock to keep up with demand.

lol, I beat you to it, already got mine at low costs - no need to wait - enjoy your foresight ;)

Is this deflection your way of admitting you're delusional as I stated earlier, or that you were full of shit as Krenum suggested right afterwards? All of the above is an option as well.

Frankly I was just ignoring your post but since you insist. What I do or buy on the open market is none of your business. If I can afford 200 over priced GPUs to do some sort of business work - I will. You can fork up or get out of the way - that is buying competition.

Not sure what you are implying that you are privilege for a cheaper video card, that manufacturers should cater to one group and restrict video card usage for people that do not game and then sell it to gamers at lower cost and ignore other customers willing to pay more for their product. Tough luck. GPU's are used more than just gaming. All those different uses from scientific, video editing, Nvidia game streaming, HPC, Engineering, VR, datacenters etc. that did not even remotely exist 10 years ago or very little from your time line are eating into the supply. Lisa Sue said mining was around 1/3. Anyways you have no higher right to a video card then others. Manufacturers and companies do what they can for the highest profit so they can survive, make better products, corner a market if possible and make even more profits, rinse and repeat. I am sure both Nvidia and AMD are not restricting supplies, doing everything they can to make more.

I doubt pricing will come down much this year.

What you buy wasn't the discussion. Let me refresh your memory...

No one gives a shit what you buy or what you can afford. You're being called out on the BS line I just posted above. This is the 2nd time you've deflected.

Will there be a third deflection? Will you answer my question on when there was this sort of shortage when mining wasn't around? Or will you admit you were delusional and/or full of shit when you posted that?

In case you feel like going off on another tangent, I'll end this post with the very question you've failed to answer so it doesn't slip your mind...

When have gamers caused an industry wide shortage of GPU's?

Now that your are clear on your grief point "MINERS COULD SAY. . ." , so what? You think only gamers can complain , anyways it is more than gamers, ooops I mean miners sucking up cards.

Of course miners make up a part of the reason for the shortage but all the usage types and limited production capability is the real reason. Singling out one group and ignoring the rest falls short.

RamonGTP, here you go: This makes the largest mining operation look dinky beyond belief or the top ten put together:

Nvidia owns the GPU, you pay to stream games on it: you rent a GPU. We are not talking about a thousand here, we are talking 10's of thousands of GPUs. I wonder if this grand scheme of Nvidia is eating into some available video cards??? There is not just one supercomputer doing this as a note and not a special super duper chip. They are Pascal GPUs and many of them.

If crypto had shown me anything it is that how worthless and socially primitive humanity still is. Looking for their own short term gains, don't giving a damn about anything and anyone else. But hell what did I Expect? After all, these are the same people stampeding children on black friday for that 30% off tv.

I've just recently heard where the idiots fought over discounted jars of nutella in france. How stupid are we still?

Just as I figured. A 3rd deflection.

Claims gamers are responsible for GPU shortages, can’t list a single example in 30 years of PC gaming where there was an actual shortage of GPUs due to gamers.

Even the most popular YouTube (LInus, Jays2Cents, Gamers Nexus) reviewers have made videos of shortages due to mining. NVidia themselves are urging retailers to limit purchases to one card per customer to preserve some inventory for GAMERS. Yet you’re here trying to convince everyone gamers are just as responsible for the shortage? You seriously can’t be as stupid as you’re pretending to be.

Short term gain minded, unfortunately that is a part of Crypto, I do not believe that is the whole case. Stampeding kids - na. Not giving a damn??? Look up Charities accepting Crypto - many use mining to help out others, that is the truth.

J2Cents is your source of information? no deflection, you totally ignore everything so you can just blame someone or group because you can't go down to Walmart and buy a cheap powerful gaming powerhouse of a video card. Whatever the case.

Hey, Nvidia has you cover, buy a shield, stream to your TV from one of Nvidia owned GPU and you don't have to worry about drivers, operating systems and all the developers would have one big huge centralized place to release games all controlled by Nvidia. You won't even have to have a computer and definitely a GPU - Nvidia will have hundreds of thousands ready for your use. You won't even have to think about those evil miners, Nvidia will have you covered.

4 deflections.

Can you or can you not name a single time in the last 30 years there was an industry wide shortage of GPUs caused by gamers?

Let me know what you find confusing about that question. I don’t know how much more I can dumb it down for you.

In fact, can you even point to an industry wide shortage ever taking place, for any reason at all when mining wasn’t a thing?

This is the worst shortage i have seen, but its not all due to miners either. Memory shortages, nvidia switching productions, amd twiddling their thumbs ? I believe its a perfect storm, if it was all the miners fault you wouldnt been able to buy 1080s / 1080ti for MSRP back in december. The cards that miners impacted the most were 1070's and RX 580s. I had no trouble getting 1080s under $499 with a free game. I've been gaming on a $109 RX 560 2gb, and frankly im shocked how well its doing. maintaining 200fps+ on cs:go and 100fps on overwatch on ultra.

Ive been really tempted to buy a dell Ryzen 5 1400 + RX 570 for $600 or build a threadripper to mine cryptonight... but not quite that desperate yet. I still believe we are going to see some stuff in stock soon now that mining profits have tanked. Overpriced Vegas stopped selling out finally, but its going to take quite a bit of time for downward pressure on price.

I see a 980TI in the FS section and the guy is asking more than I paid for my 1080 8 months ago...I don't really care so much, as im not in the market, but what I do care about is that the FS section here used to be a place for members to help each other out and get a few bucks back for their old hardware when they upgraded......now it seems to have turned into a gouge fest like eBay ....people are buying cards just to flip, as well as selling their own stuff at huge markups with plans of buying it back when the prices come down...It really ruins the spirit of the forum for me to see that level of greed.

It’s needs to drop a lot further before it becomes unprofitable for mining.

Not really. I'm seeing $3.75/day for each of my overclocked GTX 1080 Ti cards. That barely covers my electricity costs with a tiny bit of profit left over and it doesn't take into consideration the fact that I'm wearing out my hardware prematurely. If this lull goes any lower I predict you're going to see miners start to bail out. And I can't see anyone in their right mind getting into the current market as a miner with the prices the way they are right now.

When Bitcoin drops by 10% the alt coins that people are mining typically drop by 20% or even more. The miners are getting hit hard right now.

Since BTC has failed to stay above its 0.618 rally retracement level, there will be much more pain in cryptoland short term. CBOE and CME won't be playing nice.

Welcome to America?
We've had coked up, quaaluded, greedy mofos running wild for way too long chanting "free market, free speech"

Your 1080Ti uses almost $3.75 a day in electricity? You should probably go double check the math on that one lol :p

I agree, but wasn't there some interesting news about this a couple of days ago? Like Samsung is gonna be making a custom ASIC for mining?

Im all for the free market, but I consider this forum "family" and I dont try and capitalize on family.

I understand not everyone feels that way , my point is that it's not within the spirit of the FS section to use it as a medium to flip items for profit.

I don't disagree there. Otherwise the FS/FT section will turn into Anandtech's.

So what you're saying is that you accept Free Market fucks over the majority, you just want to keep you and yours safe from that.

Also, Noko, you are clearly, cleary unable to deal with reality. The reason there are shortages is because every manufacturer sees miners as a short term customer and not a long term one. That means they're not ramping up production. For GPU compute applications and gaming, there's no such drawback - the demand that is there, will continue to be there through thick and thin and the companies thus increase or decrease production on much longer timescales, in line with predictable trends in the space.

The shortage is, therefore, 100% to do with miners. Stop being so dense.

AT forums as a whole are a joke ever since Anand left. If you make a post that isn’t kid friendly or politically correct you earn a warning or vacation.
OT : +1 Even _clearly designated_ tongue-in-cheek comments get you infractions.
The HardForums / GenMay is one of the few remaining places to hang out.
Most everywhere else is eternal September sh*t.

Will just leave this here ...

Basically, they're not enthused about miner GPU purchases because :
- they're not brand loyal (and thus not inclined to purchased a mfg's other products)
- sales are skewed (say 10x GPUs, but only 1 mobo, no cases, fans, keyboard, mice, etc.)

I certainly can't complain, as I've sold my share of pickaxes (2x 290 + 2x 390 -> 4x 1080 for nearly free), but still.
