They Are Billions - steampunk zombie RTS

I've been eyeing it. I would like to see a more in depth Zombie strategy game. Maybe starting with you leading a small group through the initial outbreak. Do you go to costco or do you go to the mall etc. Ya know doing all the smart things everyone bitches about them not doing in the movies or tv shows. Then you start to rebuild society and reclaiming land, eventually coming across others doing the same. They Are Billions isn't quite that but does look good.

id describe it as a mix of age of empires and stronghold but with zombies. the base building is in tiers and pretty rewarding and the enemies come at you in waves every 15 days or so. keep in mind that its early access.

ive played for 5 hours now. difficulty on normal i got to day 83 just now before dying. stuck with a huge army of archers when i clearly should have upgraded to fewer but better units. next try is the one though, i can feel it

Expand as quickly as you can, you need a lot of resources to build the units and defenses to defeat later waves and you will usually find choke points near the edges of the map.

yeah, im not there yet, i keep it pretty tight to begin with if i can cause if i stretch too far i just get overrun with zombies turning my civilians into more zombies. dunno, havent quite worked it out.

SplattercatGaming has a great play through and ive nearly watched the entire series. The game has a counter and supposedly supports 1 million units on screen.

Watched a few streamers play this recently, i am going to keep it on my watch list just to see how it develops

i completely agree haha (havent won yet)
Its seems the key is to tech to the artillery guy as fast as you can and to have at least 2 layer's of walls and lots of snipers and a few of the fire guys for breeches. I yet to get past the final wave though. One layer allways falls and then i have a base full of zombies.

One of the issues I am running into is cramped maps. You do not have enough room and time to gather resources, expand out and build up your defenses quick enough.

destroy houses when they breach. so they dont multiplicate. 20-30 snipers early to stem waves and clear the map. clearing the map is apparently the biggest factor to actually winning.

Where do you earn the sniper? I seen it available though a Mayor once.

Think its the woodwork shop. Just build a lot of them they are op vs other uints
yeah, research in wood workshop. they are very slow but once they rank up they are good for clearing the map and towns. just be careful with spitters.

I think I'm around 20 hours in and still haven't beaten the first map on 100%. I've lost a few times to dumb mistakes. One of the last times I played I accidentally deleted every tesla tower on the map and I was around 45 days in I think. I've reached the final wave twice, and I think both times my problem was that I didn't expand enough so I didn't have the resources I needed. That and I've finally realized that some of the advanced upgrades aren't worth it. I think next time I reach the final wave I'll be able to pull it off.

I think 20 snipers can pretty much handle anything when sending them to clear the map. I've heard that on the final wave everything on the map that you didn't kill will come and attack you along with the waves they send but I don't know if that is true.

Lot's of fun though. I'm not stopping until I beat the first map at least.

Geez, I guess I suck at RTS as I am having issues on easy/normal. F these zombies!

I'm so upset with myself. Last night I started a new map and was blessed with my command center basically being in a corridor with only exits to the north and south. Almost directly against the south exit was a doom village so I quickly walled that side off and started pushing out north. Out of the north side the map basically opened into a rectangle, the left side I was able to block off easily. I cleared out the right side and further north with some rangers and had them fall back. Apparently they were just far enough away from the edge of the rectangle for a zombie to sneak down the right side and get to in of my hunting cottages, then my sawmill. They were almost all the way through my sawmill before my rangers showed up and by then it was too late. Since I didn't have much space (because of the corridor) I had tents right there. It would have been a super easy win since I would have only had two directions to block off in the end.

I started another map, currently around day 30, and it's going well. I'll finish it tonight and hopefully it will be a winner.

They should let you rebuild/move the cmd center as some map starts suck and others are amazing

That's the issue with this game IMO. Whether you are successful depends on the random initial spawning on the map. Tight quarters and limited resources = doom.

I use to think the same thing but if you really expand quickly, placing teslas ect, you should be able to find plenty of resources.

Not when you have a lake to the north, a doom village to the west, a doom village to the east, and not a lot of room to the south. I really enjoy the game, but some additional options for map generation would really help.

The whole point is that you should not expect to win every game. I am currently rolling :) I won three in a row, as I figured the mechanics, and going for 120 days/brutal, looking good, but as usual noting is assured with this game until the very end.

edit: OK won my first 120D/brutal, barely thanks to one last well placed executor (my very last one before the final wave).

I have lost the last 8 games in a row on the second map due to only having enough trees for one woodmill and the next group of trees being next to doom villages. Well, that and having room for just 1 or 2 farms, enough water nearby for 1 or 2 fishermen before getting too close to said doom villages. There is exactly zero fun in having to restart a map 8 times due to that shit.

They really need a world editor/viewer or more consistent maps some are supper easy others you have no chance as like you said lack of stone/wood or food. Most rts games you can kinda over come a lack of some resource or the starts of each player are fairly even.

Trying to win on Brutal 120D second map, and got my ass handed to me three times in a row now. Last game was really close - about two well placed executors too far out, but did not make them.

Need to learn on how to protect the entry points better. Also those "mini-hordes"are not exactly mini after D70 or so, had an intrusion with the last mini-horde before the main one and that positively screwed me over, just got to miss on preparation for the final day, managed to kill 36k and still lost, secondary reason was misjudging the main attack direction at the end, on top of being sloppy around D100.

Just picked this up. Took me about 10 full games to complete a 22% match. I really just got lucky as hell with the map rng and finally realized that Zanathos > Executors.

So a heads up to anyone who is new. The Community Challenges you get ONE try at. You can't redo them if you die.

I found this out the hard way. Forgot to hit pause and went to the restroom on like day 9. I'm assuming one little zombie snuck by my ranger and the entire city was being engulfed and GG.

If you want to sort of cheat at it you can go online and download the map layout that people have posted to help you out.
